Highest was everton this season and lowest (also this season) was a whitby town game where there was about five of us.

Highest League was Wigan in 02/03, supposedly 3998 that stand holds more than that and was rammed imo it was nearer 6,000. Lowest, probably about 100 or less at QPR in 96/97. Yesterday was the smallest following i've seen for a while.

Excluding FA Cup/League Cup Games I would say the highest travelling support I can recall was at Barnsley, early in our promotion season (September 1990) where we took over, well over ! 5000.

Fewest I have been part of was the less than a hundred at Plymouth, November 1988 (3-0) loss.

I do also recall Latics playing the "Lambs To The Slaughter" at Chelsea in the mid 1980's which was featured on Match Of The Day (Sunday Afternoon as I recall). The camera panned on the huge open terrace behind the goal to reveal a "travelling army" of some 50 or so. Not exaggerating here, does anyone else remember this televised game ?

So what is the highest/smallest Latics travelling support that you have been part of ?

The highest again is Southport 1974. All four sides were full of Latics fans. Their average gate as I remember at the time was around 3000, and I think the gate that day was over 12000. Great atmosphere, we won and the journey back was magic. Coach after coach of us.

The least was probably Orient away in an FA Cup replay. Terrible game, and we were beaten easily by a team I think at the time were two divisions below us.

What are your memories of travelling to Italy ?

Really interested Diego........

Recollections of Ancona are in this link to the fishal site.

http://www.oldhamathletic.premiumtv.co.uk/...1032628,00.html

We travelled to Genoa on the plane with the team and Club officials. The approach to the landing in Italy was horrendous. There was a very strong cross-wind and on its first approach to the landing strip next to the sea, the plane was blown unsteady and unable to land. So it had to go back out over the sea and then approach again. I thought I was the only one scared, but when we landed, spontaneous applause broke out throughout the cabin - the power of prayer is amazing!

We had a police escort into the city and we were dropped off in a square full of bars and told we would be picked up early evening. Everyone was warned in writing and orally that we were all representing the Club and country - any misbehaving would be disastrous and anyone getting drunk would not be allowed into the stadium. When it came to getting back on the coach to go to the stadium, many were still in the same bar where they'd been all afternoon. When they staggered onto the coach they were followed by the bar owner who had had something nicked. It was all very embarrassing for Alan Hardy, who used his powers of diplomacy to sort things out. The instruction about not being alowed into the stadium was waived as the culprits were likely to cause less trouble inside than outside.

It was absolute brass monkey weather, with a wind-chill factor bringing the temperature down well below zero. We would have loved to swap it for the comparative warmth of a winter's day at Ice Station Zebra! The coppers were begging scarves off the fans, not as souvenirs, but to wear to keep warm.

The Genoa fans boycotted the game and it was a bit of a non-event with a 0-0 scoreline. A Scottish fan who followed Latics regularly in those days let off some firecrackers. He also got involved in a fight with his fellow fans when we chanted In-ger-land. For all of the impressive red towers of the stadium, as admired in the 1990 World Cup, it was really a bit of a dump - the urinal was a large hole in the ground with everyone stood round!

As we walked round the helter-skelter type staircase down one of the towers to the exit, we could see two lines of combat police waiting to funnel us to the door of the coach - talk about OTT!

In the airport AH was worried that the firecracker man might set one off on the plane and there was a lot of security questioning. Some fans had their duty-free confiscated for the duration of the flight, as they were considered to be tanked up enough already.

On landing at Manc Airport, one of the fans was taken off first as he was ill.

Happy days!

Highest - probably Southport in 1974. Only about 10 at the time so not sure how many we took but can remember a large traffic jam full of Oldham fans on the way into Southport and all 4 sides it seemed full of our supporters.

Southend away this season was pretty lonely - especially 10 minutes before kick off when I counted about 30 of us. Luckily it filled up, if you can call it that, to about 200.

Yep remember Southport had to be 9000-10000

Least had to be Fulham early eighties i think we we got stuffed 5-0 can only remember 30 or so Good night in London after game

Wish I had been old enough to get over to the games against the Italian clubs, they should scrap the JPT and bring the anglo-italian cup back!

Think the highest away attendance I've been at was against Bury when Colusso equalised, we seemed to fill every stand! Lowest was definately Notts County in the Auto-Windscreens, was roughly 90 of us who bothered, Allan Smart's debut, looked pretty decent that game!

Was that the Chelsea match when we lost 3-0 against the Dixon, Nevin, Speedie era team? If so, I was there and featured in close up on MOTD leaning against a crash barrier in my Bunnymen mac!! However, this was shown on Saturday night as I can remember just getting home in time to watch it!!

We used to get tiny away followings in the late '70's and early '80's. I remember one match at Ashton Gate during this period when there were about a dozen of us there. A few Bristol fans had come in to our end looking for trouble but ended up chatting and smoking with the Latics fans.

Lowest number of Latics fans for a relatively short journey must be Sheff Wed away after the "riot" match. There were less than 50 of us there tucked away in a small section with the home fans on the Kop. Very unpleasant!!

Southport away on Easter Monday, 1974 gets my vote as the most away fans for a league match. What a great 4 days that was!! Three wins in three matches.

Also, it would be interesting to know how many fans travelled to Plymouth when we won the league on that Tuesday night. Not many, I bet!!

Been is some ones mentioned. I never got to go to Genoa for the Anglo Italian although I had my mind set on it before I found myself out of work and couldn't afford it.

Torquay away in the league cup around 1992 was lowly. We had around 30 or 40 down there. I do recall a large Oldham flag in their end peculiarly enough.

Similarly, and quite ironic one of our lowest, and highest away contingents were mere days apart. 1990 Pompey away on a Tuesday night where we sank to a miserable defeat, and then the Wembley cup final with Forest on the Saturday.

Highest for a league match... that Sheffield Wednesday match in the Championship season (2-2 draw) sticks in my mind. We took loads down there that day, I'm sure that upper tier holds about 6k?

I recall in the top flight days our travelling following wasn't always particularly high. I recall going to places like Coventry, Villa, Newcastle etc. where we took around 400-500 or so. You take it completely for granted now really.

**SIGH** "Chelsea away... must we really bother?" - Me, about 8am before going down to Stamford Bridge on a winter's morning around 1993.

Yes that is the game I am referring to, thought it was shown on Sunday but I beg to your superior memory !

I remember the commentator saying something like "Well that is certainly not the highest following you'll see but they are a loyal bunch and their team are holding their own at the moment."

This was just before Chelsea scored !

I do remember a Latics fan standing against a crush barrier and two uninterested lads kicking a tin can about ?

My memory isn't what it was but I'm pretty certain it was a Saturday night. However, I've been wrong before! Maybe it took me longer to get home than I thought!!! My close up came just after Pat Nevin had been brought down and was receiving treatment.

I think that this was also the match when The Shed decided to single out Gary Hoolickin for a load of "gingerist" stick. He earned himself a round of applause by going over to them at the end and clapping them!! Brave man!!

The journey home was also interesting. A few of us were waiting for the tube train at Fulham Broadway(?) and looking over our shoulders. When the train arrived, it was packed full of Newcastle fans. Thinking we were Chelsea fans they were about to wade into us when someone piped up, "We're from Oldham."

Their mood changed and they welcomed us aboard with open arms.

highest was at wigan under dowie.

lowest was at donny this season in JPT

Same as.

Though it could have been worse. Rochdale played at Swansea on a Tuesday Night in October 2001. Year the made the playoffs. I'd just left school but knocked about with loads of dale fans still and went with them a bit. Got a call in the morning asking if I wanted to skip college to go Swansea. They werent taking coach bookings on the day. Was glad though, despite Dale winning especially when the Observer ran a front page article on the Saturday about "The Chosen 12" - each one of them named and shamed (cant have been good for any of those who'd told their boss they were tucked up in bed ill) - Yep. They took a whopping 12 down to the Vetch for a league game. Funny thing was, there was supposedly 23 booked on the one coach they ran. Then again, there was only 3,500 in attendance. I wonder where all those Swansea fans on Saturday where??
