Oldham Fans In The Cheadle End

Recommended Posts

Not at all, but all this, it's Stockport's fault, book should be thrown at them rubbish. Come on, how many people here know the FACTS of what went on with the ticket allocation ?

If anyone seriously thought County said 2000, no more, just to cause Oldham some aggravation are in cloud cookoo land. We're a trust run club, we need the money for goodness sake. If you'd have told us at an early juncture you'd be bringing 2500 you'd probably have been given the tickets, Police permiting.

I guess people are just comparing with how we have dealt with large numbers of away fans in the past. The most recent being Huddersfield last week. It being changed to a Friday night quite soon to the game cannot have helped but that was unavoidable really.

I'd ditch the Stockport County quiz at the ticket office too as it doesn't seem to work

Nor does ticket office staff allocating away player complimentaries in the home ends but I'm not sure if they are sorted at our end or yours. Cock up regardless.

Going into the home end celebrating and goading women and children in front of their husbands/Dads ? Newsflash, it WAS your fault.

i think we have already established that the fans who did that were at fault, there is no need for you to arrive with your 'women and kids' analogy. sounds like your looking to justify the response which was dished out.

Agree re: the quiz. Sadly the ticket staff are employees of Sale Sharks, not SCFC.

It's not an analogy.

No justification for what went on, that goes for both sides. Had your fans done the decent thing and kept quiet though, peace and love all around.

Whilst I take on board and understand your points, can you give me the justification for 20 or so of your "boys" kicking 10 tons of ***** out of one or more of our fans for having the audacity to celebrate us scoring.

Irrespective of the fact that this occurred in the home end, your comments are seeking to justify that if our fans had been celebrating outside after the match, that would also have been ok for such a violent and cowardly attack? Quite simply, there is no excuse whatsoever for the violence that was dished out by your "fans" be it inside or outside the ground and I would at least expect you to support the rooting out of the offenders to be prosecuted and have lifetime bans issued by both Stockport County and the Courts.

There is "no justification for went went on"

We all accept that if you go in the "home end" you keep stum, however in times of high excitement people sometimes forget themselves.

Please don't come on here and tell us that because some of our fans were in your end it justifies the cowardly and brutal attack on them.

I await your condemnation of the violence dished out by your fans.

Cheers,

Harry

The police have a MASSIVE say over who gets what tickets, when games get played, and they could certainly use their influence to close a stand or a ground down if they felt fan behaviour was unacceptable.

Yes they do, but who will get the blame for Friday? I'm in no doubt that it will be Stockport for not stopping away fans getting into home areas, not the police who are always not guilty.

In tonight's rarely wrong Chron:

Trouble flares as fans clash at Stockport v Latics derby

Reporter: Richard Hooton

Date online: 06/10/2008

LATICS fans were led away by police after crowd trouble during their derby defeat at Stockport County at Edgeley Park on Friday night.

Violence flared after some Athletic fans bought tickets for the Cheadle End — a Stockport section of the ground — and began celebrating Andy Liddell’s opening goal mid-way through the first half.

Fighting ensued following the strike for Oldham and the referee was forced to halt the game for a couple of minutes as it spilled onto the edge of the pitch.

Police moved in to quell trouble and several blooded fans were escorted away by officers and stewards.

Latics supporters blamed an inadequate allocation of 2,000 tickets for the hotly-anticipated League One game.

They quickly sold out a week in advance leaving supporters, desperate to cheer on their team, turning up on the night and purchasing tickets from the Stockport ticket office instead.

They were then able to get in to the home section where trouble occurred.

One Latics supporter in the middle of the melee said: “Some of the fans jumped up and down in the Stockport end which started it all off.

“There was fighting and I saw one guy with blood on his face. The police came running down the stand as fighting spilled on to the pitch.

“It was stupid because all we wanted to do was watch the game.”

Order was quickly restored and there was no other trouble before or after the incident. Latics went on to record their first defeat of the season, losing 3-1 in front of a crowd of 8,360.

Latics chief executive Alan Hardy said: “I was there and aware of the trouble.

“It seems to have been caused by Oldham Athletic supporters in the Stockport end, which breaches crowd regulations.”

He said Oldham had asked for more tickets but Stockport did not increase their allocation.

While that was disappointing, he sympathised with Stockport as there are restrictions on how many fans can attend and any decision is made in consultation with police.

A police spokesman said today: “Several Oldham fans were ejected from the ground. There was one arrest for public disorder.”

I said there was no justifcation for what went on. Isn't that clear. How can you say I justify it. I clearly said I didn't.

You think it's possibly to keep out any away fan who wants to get in a home end ? Plllllllllllllllllllease.

I couldn't attend the match due to work commitments, but for me the problem could have been easily avoided - the match should have been ALL TICKET.

It would not be the first nor the last local derby to be made all ticket - this problem would never have occurred.

How so ? Oldham fans could still have wandered up to EP and obtained tickets in advance just as they did for this game.

Because

1, The vast majority of Oldham fans would struggle to get to Stockport before the game to buy a ticket

2, They would have to provide evidence of who they were and therefore they would have been traceable to the seat

3, This is the way that issues are avoided in most local derbies

Just to add insult to injury from Fridays game, i got asked by there guys when i first turned up if i would mind going into the lounge to meet a few kids as there were some Latics fans in there. I headed up there with their mascots and the guy from football in the community, they led me through the home fans to get to the lounge. As i was wlaking through i got punched by 4 different people round the back of the head. Yet when i gave one of them a slap back i got moaned at by the steward. I just did my bit in the lounge at got out of there, not the freindliest places ive been.

On a seperate note though, i did get treated very nicely by the people looking after me, and there mascots were well impressed with the fact i scored from the corner flag.

That was my highlight!!!

Incidentally why do they have two (obese) mascots, one of which looked like the ill relation of the other?

In your post that I originally replied to you went onto say "Had your fans done the decent thing and kept quiet though, peace and love all around." The point is, that while we accept that probably 90% of people would keep stum, some people, for wahtever reason, can't. It does not excuse the violence dished out by your fans. Yes you did say that there was no justification in your words "that goes for both sides." However, I did not ask you if it was justified, I asked you to condem the violence dished out by your fans. Quite simple really.

I also stated "and I would at least expect you to support the rooting out of the offenders to be prosecuted and have lifetime bans issued by both Stockport County and the Courts."

So, in answer to my original question you will have no problem then confirming your condemnation of the violence dished out by the County "fans" and their rooting out and subsequent prosecution.

I await your reply.

Cheers,

Harry.

You're playing with semantics now. Of course I condem it, just as I condem the goading of home fans after a goal (which is entirely different to forgetting where you are and celebrating I might add). To then turn around after the initial celebration with arms outstretched shouting "come on" and waving them on is enciting violence. I hope there are prosecutions on both sides. However, I suspect there won't be. Do you condem inciting violence by away fans in home fans areas ?
