alongside Abbot--thoughts ?

Not as ridiculous as many are making out. At least the lad can finish, which is more than can be said for many of our forwards at the current time. However, I think his talents are put to best use in his current position. A quality midfielder can be as much of an asset to a team as a quality forward, if not more......

one goal does not make him a good finisher.

So we get a hint of creativity in midfield, and the suggestion from the terraces is stick it up front instead?

For the first time since Wellens we potentially have a player who can make chances.

His set pieces are a million times more threatening than the old Danny Whitaker short-corner routine.

An if he can (when the manager allows) get beyond our main striker a little more often he could easily be a 10 goal a season midfielder.

Nah - Dale isn't a striker nor will he be.

The type of goal he scored on Tues night; he could score 5+ a season of those sorts of goals from his CM position; just by taking a chance & breaking through past the forwards with some regularity. Especially as we have a striker able to make those types of passes in Pawel. Add in the odd potential direct free-kick and Dale could be worth a cheecky 5-7 a season from midfield if he works on making those types of runs. We’ve really missed goals from midfield this season; they’re key to make a team ‘fire’ and challenge. Gary Mac was the last one who contributed serious goals from the centre of the park…………

Firstly Whitaker isn't just about goals, he has excellent vision and passing range around the middle of the park but lacks the physicality to impose himself on the opposition midfield. You may note that games such as Leyton Orient and MK Dons this season - where we have looked half decent - have often coincided with games where Whitaker has been able to get on the ball and play.

As for the post though - never a chance in hell of this. Stephens' key weakness in the middle is that he is a touch one-paced, and he has done nothing to suggest that he can play up front! Bonkers suggestion! He would be much better trying to become a poor man's Carrick - lacks a bit of pace but pulls the strings in midfield, sets the team's tempo, tackles (a bit un-Carrickesque true) around and basically keeps the ball moving around the park. Add a bit of adventure as we saw on Tuesday and he could be a useful player - especially with his excellent dead-ball delivery.
