dish
I'm fairly sure that we only gave him a two year deal when we signed him for United, which means that his contract would be over in the summer. I've always rated him and thought it's been a shame that he's never been played in his favoured central midfield position. Now he's had a fairly decent run in the team, albeit at RB, what do most people think - good enough to secure a new deal?
dave_ragg1984
Yes, I think he has done enough for another season.

Crusoe
Yes, he's shown himself to be a useful utility player, who at worst can fill in and reduce the need for loan signings, and at best can perform decently in two different positions. And he still has time to develop. I'd offer him another year.
Yard Dog
No. Might be unrealistic, but I want promotion next year - to achieve that we need a better calibre of right back than him. Somebody who gets forward more.

Hank Kingsley
His contract is up in the summer, and imo he's done ok since he's come into the side, he had his best game yet against Brentford I thought, he's no full back though and there's got to be a reason that three different managers haven't seen fit to play him in centre mid. I'l be surprised if he's offered a new deal.

BigfinLatic
I'd think it might be largely up to him. When *insert whomever our manager will be in the summer* asks him if he wants to be a professional footballer, then he will have to say yes with conviction. Dropped from Man U for allegedly not being arsed, and never set the world alight here. It wouldnt suprise me in the least if he didnt really want it. Plus, as has been said, there are hundreds of footballers just as good as him and better whom are out of contract this season. Like a lot of things latics at the moment... I dont really care... leeslover
I think he's one of our mid to higher earners, I wouldn't keep him as that, maybe on reduced terms. He still doesn't convince me he fancies being a lower league footballer.

I'm not rubbishing him though, I'd give him another year, just don't think he'll get it that's all.
leeslover
Who says he's out of position anyway? I thought he had played left back more than anywhere else, and he came to us apparently able to play anywhere. Maybe he needs to decide what his job is and concentrate on learning that! leeslover
Plus Rob "I can play anywhere" Purdie. .. if he exists.. obviously... I think Purdie will link up well with the Centaur down the right if both are fully fit, and if we can get a Chimera to support Paw up front and Balrog as cover for Gregan we will have the makings of a squad. Stitch_KTF
Fast becoming one of my favourite players, I hope that we keep Lee and indeed thoroughly expect us to do so. He's been superb lately, staking a strong claim for MOTM in 4 of the last 5 home games thanks to displays showing both grit and quality. I don't know what's happened to him but it's like we've signed a new player. A rare "well done" to Penney maybe? Maybe with him maturing, his contract coming to an end and his United days fading into memory he's taken it upon himself to try and fulfil his always undoubted potential and continue earning a living out of the game? He and we will be large beneficiaries if he has. And nevermind about him being a midfielder - he's our best rightback just now and I'd say that we're bordering on having somehow satisfactorily replaced Eardley. Now we ought to put the struggling, predictable and one dimensional Taylor in front of Lee in order to try and benefit from his passing and nous. Unless somebody's going to come in and say to whoever the manager may be "here's an extra 50% in budget - go out and assemble a promotion winning squad" then Lee is the kind of player we should keep and nurture. Not sure about sticking Taylor on the right ... but providing him with the luxury of an overlapping full back (or at least one that's allowed to cross the half way line) is certainly a way to bring more variety in to his game. I'm still not sure Lee's a right back though, but I'd keep any player who is young, has a degree of talent and is genuinely up for it. De_La_Vega
I've been massively impressed with Lee over the last couple of weeks and he would definitely get a new deal, albeit if he is a top earner then we'd need to have a look at that - maybe change his contract to a more performance orientated one because it does seem a tad convenient that he's picked up the pace so close to contract time. That all said, he does impress me as one of the best pure footballers that we have and at this level you cannot afford to neglect players like that. From what I have seen this year he's been our stand out performer at right back, and so would be offered a contract as a first team regular next year. Out of the current squad the players I'd dispense with would be Worthington, Whitaker and Lomax. Add to that Alessandra on a year to prove himself worth his place and Smalley given the notice that more is expected from him to gain a new deal. singe
So who do we build our team round next season? To me that is a bit of a worry. If Penney is still here, I think he can tweak and build, and I'd give him till Nov. GK Brill. MArmite. People either rate or hate. RB Lee CB Gregan Obviosuly player of the season foreveryone, but would next season be a season too far him? A la Ledge Mr Pointy? Maybe time for another Captain, based in midfield? CB Hazell Our soft goals have been a concern for several seasons CM Stephens CM Purdie ? Unkown RW Taylor ? Big drop in form this season CF Abbott. Subs EAves Millar Black A couple of the other seem to be wory blooding next season. Not much else. SO we need some key signings IMHO.
