Very Interesting !

Recommended Posts

Just been speaking to one of the sky sports lads in london and he said that latics and tranmere will get around the £42,000 mark for being on tv ! Plus all league one and two clubs get £165,000 a year for tv rights etc.

Not much really, when compared to an FA Cup game or the Greedy League.

Perhaps we could have been on telly loads if we'd done a bit better in 3 cup competitions.

Nail hit squarely on head.

We need to stop thinking we're Arsenal and concentrate on getting beyond the first round of any of the cup competitions, the rewards of televised matches will then come our way.

I think he means £42k between the 3, ie £21k each?

Discussed here too

The £165k is about 5% of our turnover.

Important, but the gate money is far more important.

contrast that with the Premier League.

Half of all broadcast revenue raised is split equally among all 20 Premier League clubs.

A further 25% is distributed depending on how many televised games a club appears in. The remaining funds are awarded based on where a club finishes in the league table, with higher ranking sides getting bigger payouts.

The basic is £500m divided by over 3 years. Basic. That's £8 per year.

Even Sky's own reports estimated Blackpool's promotion was worth £90m, that included parachute payments etc. over 4 years.

EDIT just found this article which gives some extra bones.

More here

Stoke and Hull had turnoever of £11m in the championship.

Extra £6m when in the Prem, mainly gate money and corporate

Extra £40 from TV rights etc.

So our TV money is 5%, A Prem club is 400%.

I never realised it was so bad, that is practically immoral. No wonder they call the shots.

We'd get more money in total if we got into the championship.

Not that much really, Berwick Rangers got £82k for their cup match against Celtic the other week. Admittedly they did have to fork out for a large tarpaulin and additional benches in order to extend the Main Stand.

again more money because it a cup game.

We'd get more money in total if we got into the championship.

we would get around £4million from tv money.

You're right we would, much more.

The point I was trying to make is we can't be complaining we aren't on TV enough compared to Brentford etc, when we make little effort to progress beyond the first round of any of the cup competitions. Brentford were televised last night because they have progressed to the later stages of the JPT.
