creepy
LABOUR'S FIGHT OVER 'ROXY GATEWAY' in The Chron today. Not sure if this includes the land that has been 'rumoured' to be linked with an alternative stadium site. It's not yet got the full story on the website! it just says the land near Albert Mill, not sure if its the land 'we want' interesting how the council want the land for a hotel, bowling alley, cinema etc
Lookers_Carl
Are labour in favour of this, or fighting against this?
opinions4u
Are labour in favour of this, or fighting against this? It depends if a NIMBY or a football supporter is asking the question.
BP1960
Their aim is to build a leisure facility, including a hotel, bowling alley, and cinema. If we are not part of the plan it would surely leave our blueprint in tatters!!! And the proposed warehouse may be agreed before May - scuppereng all possible stadium plans. We need the the Lib Dems and Charlie Parker to state now what's going on.
garcon
The Hollinwood Gateway redevelopment area, although seemingly ideal in some ways, has never at any point been seriously considered as suitable for a Latics stadium development, partly due to the topography of the plot but mostly because of the value of the land; in difficult financial times, it would be a very big ask of both the council and council tax payers to subsidise the sale of that land to the club to a level that would make a stadium there viable. For maybe the first time ever, taking any possible stadium/leisure development to one side for the moment, I actually agree with the Labour councillors - it would be far better for the borough to have a desperately needed leisure development there than a warehouse. oafc1955
We don't need a bloody great warehouse in the middle of Hollinwood or any other town for that matter, it would be an eyesore. They should be built out of town on a purpose built industrial estate like at Heywood.
razza699
OutoftheBlue and my father would be out of work with out that great big warehouse !

So scrub that site then if we want to see a stadium in Oldham this century

edhunteruk
And the proposed warehouse may be agreed before May - scuppereng all possible stadium plans. We need the the Lib Dems and Charlie Parker to state now what's going on. but this is if our greater plan does include a hotel cinema and bowling alley in it....the last one at the lancaster club didnt....it was just mere speculation from a lot of us on here(me included) that this was what they wanted... the only time i know a hotel has been mention was in the proposals for redeveloping bp...and even then a cinema wasnt mentioned just corporate facilities. just seems very strange to me that the council has spent decades wiping out or leisure facilities in the borough, and now has decided it wants new ones???? coincidence or not... opinions4u
If I was a cinema chain, I'd be very reluctant to open in Oldham when Rochdale, Bury, Ashton etc all have multi-screens on the go that are rarely packed.
laticsrblue
Labour say “We believe a development which includes leisure, cinema, bowling and a hotel among other things will benefit the whole borough." Is this a hint. Mind you re car-parking issues, I can't see how a cinema/bowling alley complex will work with a football stadium unless they close the other facilities down on matchdays. garcon
No, not from that lot. If anything, they'd clarify it with, "among other things, but definitely not a football ground."

Looking on google maps you would do well to get all the leisure facilities and a football stadium on that plot....the football stadium alone would take up around 40/50% of the available land!! Clever planning? From our lot? Pulling down a stand was hardly clever planning.
laticsrblue
Saved the club loads of money though and we've never needed the extra capacity since it was demolished.
