Liverpool pubs

Recommended Posts

As we visit the place so often nowadays I'd like to venture elsewhere than the ones near Lime St and the ones around Matthew St.

Any recommendations?

They need to serve real ale and/or pretentious foreign lager.

A work friend has recommended Doctor Duncan's near the Walker gallery (I believe it has a micro brewery)

The Philharmonic Dining Rooms , 36 Hope Street.

Fly In The Loaf, Hardman Street.

Roscoe Head, Roscoe Street (CAMRA Pub of the Year 2012), one of only 7 pubs in GB to have appeared in the Good Beer Guide every year since 1974.

The Dispensary, Renshaw Street (CAMRA Pub of the Year 2010 & 2011).

The pubs are shown on this map:

Bier is the one for foreign lager. The best pub for beers to my knowledge is Peter Kavanagh's if you don't mind going a little way out of the center. But there really are loads of random ones is you head out from the center. The Caledonia is another one well worth a look and does nice food.

Doctor Duncan's is ace. I used to go every Friday when I was knobbing a bird from Bootle about ten years ago. The Mitre is another one with a brilliant beer menu. :censored:ing hell I put my life on the line with some of those night trains back to hers come to think of it. We stayed on the train to the next stop once because I was convinced a gang of chavs were going to do me in when I left the station.

Not forgetting the Fly in the Loaf near the Phili.

From Lime Street, The Fly in the Loaf would be a stop off going from The Dispensary on the way to the Philli, with the Caledonia a bit of a way after that. Sorting of heading in the wrong direction for Anfield, though.

I would suggest go as far as The Dispensary (Fly in the Loaf at a push..) and the bars around Bold Street, which are also in striking range of a few cab ranks to take you to the ground.

Yates's used to be a stronghold for their hooligans, dont know if it still is or if they will be bothering looking for trouble with and Latics fans???

Anybody any ideas of a decent boozer between Lime Street and Anfield? Was planning walking the 2 miles, but wont get into Lime St until 12ish (on the 11.18 from Piccadilly)?
