singe
Note on Elections to the Board Trust Oldham is an industrial and provident society set up with a constitution recommended by Supporters Direct. The constitution provides that there can be up to 15 directors, some elected by the members and others co-opted by the board. There must be a minimum of five directors. If as a result of resignations or retirements the number of directors falls below this number the board may continue to function but should call a general meeting to fill the necessary spaces. There must be a minimum of three elected directors and the number of elected directors must exceed the number of co-opted directors. If as a result of resignations or retirements of elected directors this balance is no longer achieved the board may fill the resulting vacancy or vacancies but any person appointed to fill such a vacancy steps down at the next AGM. One third of elected directors step down at each AGM (so normally serve for a period of three years subject to the numbers on the board) but are eligible for re-election at the end of their term of office. The board has previously adopted a Board Membership Policy as required by the constitution and which is separately published on the website. The Board Membership Policy states that any member who wishes to be considered for election to the board may submit nominations in writing to the secretary prior to the AGM, and members who wish to propose other members to become directors may do the same. The chairman has the discretion to permit the nomination of members for election to the board actually at the AGM itself and without prior notice, which indeed has occurred in the past. The chairman is one of the elected directors and is appointed by the board. source: http://trustoldham.co.uk/pages/about-us/note-on-elections-to-the-board.aspx
jorvik_latic
Ok, this is a good starting point. How many directors are there at the moment and what is the split of elected vs co-opted directors? When was the last AGM and when's the next? underdog
This is my best guess...wardlelatic, Barry and ????? The other I knew off was mike who owned the junction...but I presume that Mike was a scratch after events before Xmas. But I could be wrong too
yarddog73
next meeting anybody ??? has this trust in its current guise run its course ??? does anybody care ??? is it just a self serving trust for the select few ??? it really is a shambles and somebody needs to get a grip, the fans as I see are not being represented at all, it is the fans who are the shareholders as a collective not one man on the board. Latics and England
There seems to be a bit of an upsurge in interest in the Trust at the moment. Admittedly, a lot of it has been negative but any increase in interest has to be a positive thing and should be embraced. I appreciate the work that goes on behind the scenes and 2 or 3 years ago, I was co-opted onto the Board. Sadly, I did not have the time required to give the role what it deserved and decided to step down aftera short period of time. I think it should be pointed out that those who were on the committee at that point clearly had the best interests of the club at heart and didn't have all the fringe benefits that some on here seem to think they have. Having said this, I agree with some of the criticism from fans. There isn't the openness from the Trust that there should be. The main reason for this is that there are a small number of people doing a lot of work who just don't have the time to engage with fans in the way they would like. We need to move away from thinking that a criticism of the Trust is a criticism of those involved in running it. When I say that they should be doing more, I actually mean that there should be more people involved to allow them to do more and I use that as a criticism of myself. To the best of my knowledge the constitution referred to above has not been adhered to. There does not appear to have been a widely publicised AGM each year at which people have been able to put themselves forward for election onto the Board. What has happened, has happened but the opportunity now exists to correct this going forward. It would be helpful if someone from the Trust came on here and announced an AGM, giving plenty of notice. An additional 4 or 5 people getting involved would make all the difference and help the Trust move forward. The loss of the Supporters Association in recent years also opens up a space for the Trust to move into, and they have attempted to do this with the various Meet The Manager events and similar. By holding regular social events for fans (the old monthly quiz run by the Supporters Association actually attracted decent numbers) they would have a fantastic opportunity to share the work they are doing and listen to the views of the fans face to face rather than those expressed facelessly on here. There have been opportunities to move forward before and they have been wasted but I urge everyone who wants to see a successful Trust to get involved in any way that they can and ensure that the views of fans can be heard through a well run, structured Trust. Perhaps this would result in more people getting involved, as they'd be in possession of all the facts and could offer assistance based on their personal skills? Yes, in a roundabout way, I think that is what I was suggesting
leeslover
It needs an honest appraisal of where the Trust is at, if it has come down to 2 people and the odd helper then say so, there's nothing to lose and nobody to fool about it anymore. There are people willing to come and help and build something, just be up front about the state of play. I've been pitching a, "get worse to get better," line in my day job, it's not easy but it's a chance to clear the air and go forward. wardlelatic
The AGM for this year will be announced shortly, the accounts have been submitted and signed off by an independent accountant. The new Trust website will be available shortly - the url pathway just needs to be added http://www.trustoldham.co.uk NOW LIVE At the AGM we will be asking for persons to either nominate or propose themselves to the Trust. After a review, we now have controlling measures where all accounts will no be over viewed by an account and a qualified auditor. After the AGM we will have a new Trust Secretary But we need help in any of the following areas. The person can be local or an exiled supporter. Media Editor for newsletter Membership secretary Webmaster ~(to take ownership of the trust site) Events Co-ordinator. Writers, (We hope to ensure the new site will have a new story every week in each match programme and a newsletter quarterly We would also like a fund raising / events person to help raise money for fans facilities around the new stand and ground. underdog
Re above wardie asking for volunteers.....had a thought. Do you remember a few seasons ago, the trust via you and the college via me, put latics in a room together with the college to form a working partnership. This partnership has benefited the club with work around the club and media work re goal of the month. How about the trust now benefit.....how about the college get involved in the media, web, etc? Don't know who much they could help us this season but for next season....the college will have launch a manchester media hub and this might be a project they could help us with. I don't to now who now is the lead at this from the college angle as I left the relevant staff to run with it, but I am sure Dave broadbent can help as he is involved from oafc...can you ask him? I will mention it tonight when I see you re playershare....they might be able to help with that too
jorvik_latic
Cheers for the updates. Will these roles be trust directors or is it just for general help?
real
If people join the trust, will they be able to have a say/vote if they aren't at meetings? The concept of "show of hands" voting is a bit out-dated in my view.
real
Any chance of some timescales for the information to come through? i.e:- When will the date be announced? a week / 2 weeks / a month / 2 months? How soon after will the AGM follow - will there be a weeks notice / 2 weeks / a month... Will there be details of issues to be put to a vote? - if people are thinking of joining, they might want to know what they can influence about the trust Will people be able to vote on pre-determined issues (if they are an option) without attending?
