How can anyone other than the players themselves and club directors know the salaries of the players .......how would anyone else become privvy to that sort of info....it always amuses me when people are said to be "in the know"

Players might not even know each others. So it's either SC or the payroll department. I'd imagine that isn't that big so it should be pretty obvious who is leaking all this player salary info to messageboard snitches. It's just a bit strange they seem to be leaking different figures to different people!

I do know players talk, and an educated guess is understandable.

That said, I did know how much Ernie Cooksey was on when he signed. Through someone I knew at the time that was a mate and kind of mentor of his, and a well respected/connected non league scout.

And was told we were paying exceptionally very well.

It was less than £750 per week.

So anything would be relative.

My source tells me that Rooney was earning £2,746 + VAT per week.

 

Swindon were paying his Days Inn room rate and his £16.23 food allowance.

Not sure where you 've got that from but i'm 99% sure it's wrong. Rooney could of been on 4k with swindon paying some. I could be wrong though.

I know plenty of people that openly discuss their wages. I think they are muppets, but it does happen a lot. You can certaintly imagine younger players bragging about their contracts to their mates.

Its generally the players we've taken from contracts elsewhere that are reckoned to be on the big wages. They'd be at their old clubs if they could command those wages.
