FAO The Trust - a Jimmy Frizzell Day?

Recommended Posts

"Ahead of Jimmy Frizzell Day on Saturday for the game against Walsall, the club and Trust Oldham are asking supporters to wear any retro shirts they have in memory of the iconic manager.

Alongside a number of tributes the club and Trust have been working on, we’d like to encourage all fans to wear their retro Oldham Athletic shirts and scarves from any era.

Jimmy Frizzell is a key part of the history of our great club and it seems a fitting way to help celebrate him and all the memories of his legacy."

What's planned then?

Trying to get some lapsed fans to come but could do with some more info.....

Sorry Harry only just seen this so might be too late. The club/trust have invited some former players/family to attend tomorrow's match and there will be a parade inside the ground before the match of the players too. I believe the players might be wearing tshirts in their warm up and the little ones too who wave the flags when the players coming out. There will be a minutes applause before the match.

Retro shirts/flags for fans if you have them and I think appropriate music to be played too.

Hope this helps

Is the big screen making an appearance today?

Not yet, we were chasing up some pledges which have now come through and from this, Simon Brooke has managed to secure some more techno stuff for the screen. I'm not too sure wha the techno stuff is as it's a conversation that way over my head.

Anyways, it's a case of waiting for the screen, techno stuff and installation all to come together, sorry I can't give you even an ETA at this stage.

Cheers

Thanks for responding shame really as it would have been nice to have a few images of Jimmy on a big screen today. That said it looks like a lot of effort has gone into today so well done all. Edited by GlossopLatic

Could be an emotional day this.

I was brought up on stories about Hardwick, gemmel and Burnett and of the fateful night we drew away at Bradford to gain promotion to the then League 2. And, of course, the Board's failure to invest to keep us there.

My first match was 1 November 1958 at home to Watford lost 3- 5 (Peter phoenix scoring 2 for us). Seen it pretty much all since. Jimmy was always my favourite player, the true grit in the middle and very much an 'engine room.

Fast forward to First home fixture 1971, home to Bolton Wanderers our opening game in League 3 after forever in League 4 (and 3 North). Just before half-time my Dad collapses in the Chaddy end and dies in my arms - didn't see the end (drew 2 - 2).

Then the disgraceful treatment of Jimmy, other than his Testimonial I didn't go again until Jimmy moved to City.

Seen it all since, will be there today.

Wow, a proper rollacoaster of a day for you. I hope it's not too upsetting and current crop of lads can give your dad and jimmy a win

Heartfelt memories for you today Frizzell54.

I wish you a wonderful day, and great work from the club to recognise how much the Frizzell era is so entwined with our lives, childhood and our families for so many of us.

Nice day & lovely sentiment for Sir Jimmy.

Just a shame the club can't/won't get the basics right. As a season tkts holder in the North Stand I couldn't hear any announcements of The Frizzell family any returning players or of today's team being announced.

The music blares out but whoever is speaking into the microphone can't be heard. I don't know if it's like this everywhere but despite the club being told they did :censored: all about it! :censored:in useless!!!!

I believe the SLO has already logged and exported this already with the club. I must admit I struggled to hear not so much the announcer on the pitch at HT, but I don't think the mic was working for the guest. The chap whose going to attend all 93 league clubs and started at ours.

The thing is it was mentioned on Tuesday as well as numerous times last season. It should be sorted especially on a day like today.

Yep, totally agree. All I know is the info I have now and that the new SLO has reported it. What happens next I don't honestly know with regards to begin sorted and timeliness of it being sorted too. I hope it will, but this is latics

You're being too nice.

It was an utter :censored:ing disgrace.

Ian Wood and Ronnie Blair wandering about the North Stand on their own nobody having accompanied them or having told them where to go being a low (at least the low from what I was witness to - wouldn't surprise me if worse went on).

I was imagining the players being presented in the middle of the pitch about 2.50pm with a rundown of Jimmy's life and his involvement & amazing achievements with the club...

Good on those who tried to put something nice together, shame on those who made an absolute :censored:ing hash of it like they do with pretty much everything else.

Absolutely spot on!

It was embarrassing when I saw Ronnie Blair & Ian Wood lost not knowing where to go. It's laughable the lack of sense from those in charge at times. No wonder ex players don't come back when they are treated like nobody's.

When the ref blew his whistle for the applause you could sense that half of the ground hadn't got a clue what was supposed to be happening.

Oh dear, I know I saw Simon Brooke walking two of the players around the pitch to the North stand.

Obviously I don't know what happened afterwards with regards to looking after them as I was in the Frizzell stand. I will give the Trust feedback on what you both witnessed

I walked to the ground today - about 4 miles - and guess what; I wanted a pint when I got into the Main Stand at 2.40pm - and guess what - they had shut the bar! What is going on down there - has nobody got a brain? Lots of people wanted a drink - money lost yet again - you couldn't make it up

Ye gods...that is bad. I'd be desperate for a pint too. I'm making light of it but you are right. Money lost is not good

and the crazy thing is - somebody said they closed it at 2.40pm - and were opening it again just after kick off ! Now I do not know if that's true because I happened to want to watch the match after kick off BUT word was going around that it was now policy to close the bar at 2.40pm - if true this is unbelievable and will be costing the club a lot of money over a season. This is what is pi..ing fans off at BP - an this is the sort of stuff the Trust should be sorting. We want to have a pint, watch the game and not be treated like bloody idiots by a club that sometimes seems utterly clueless - and please don't get me onto the subject of the "little Hitler" stewards who are about as much use as a chocolate fireguard. If I wasn't a died in the wool Latics fan, I wouldn't step foot near BP - can you imagine the views of the floating supporters we are trying to attract! "No you can't have a drink sir because some imbecile has made a decision to close the bar 20 mins before kick off - just when most people actually arrive" !

Dear all

Sorry to hear about today's match day experiences.

Any match day experience you are not happy with at both home and away needs logging with your supporters liaison officer. See above link.

This role is now independant from the club and is voluntary done by fan Mark Lund who will be engaging with the club too on your experiences. Please log any issues you are having with Mark, I'm sure he will try his best to resolve them too

I have been advised that if the Frizzell players seemed unescorted in the North stand then it was only for a short period of time as a few of them where more mobile and managed to get away from Alan Hardy. Hence them looking around to find Alan.
