I commented before the game that their fans are aggressive. They showed that today they are a disgrace. I have never in 50 years had to be escorted out of a ground by the "back door" . All this "Play up Pompey" is a front, they are an embarrassment to football and can't take defeat.

Wonder how many were arrested    sure will be plenty for pitch encroachment I hope.         they have quite a history of aggression

There’s a video on twitter of the stewards tackling the pitch/stand invaders and shows a couple of police officers dwalding down at snails pace

doubt anything will happen

Well that was a fun away day!!

Very decent turn out of 466 Latics fans who sang all game.....over 100 minutes in the end!

performance was fantastic, we seemed to win every 50-50 challenge and every second ball, looked a threat every time we came forward.

a Pompey supporting mate reckoned we were the noisiest fans as well as the best team they've played so far.

the trouble was a disappointing throwback to the bad old days with coins and stones being thrown at us whilst kept in the ground for 20 mins before walking down the side of the pitch to reach "safety" at the other end of the ground....what a nonsense

Pompey fans love to talk about their great support but clearly not keen if someone turns up at their place and makes a bit of noise

that said, a few of our fans are serious wind up merchants and if you do that at clubs like Pompey you are asking for trouble

all in in all though one of the best away performances and banter for years

Last time I was there it was fine in the pub before the game but nasty after. Until Jorvik put out their barbecue that and set on fire and was going to burn the place down. Think the landlord put in a word for us.

He actually bought us all a drink and asked us to stay.

And it wasnt ok before the game game because someone purposefully bumped into you and spilled your pint. All Dave's fault of course, insisting it was an away pub...

I think it was after the game, someone threw half a pint over the back of my coat as I passed through their heavy mob on the way back from the gents. Agree it was Dave's fault though

Don't let the shithouse Pompey fans overshadow yesterday. They were pathetic, I was down at the front waiting to get out at the end before they turned us all round and at one point there was 5 stewards holding 50 schooligans and a few older knobheads that should know better back, they didn't really want it just wanted to put their pictures/videos on social media to show how hard they are. One fella similar age to me came over and shook my hand, said we deserved the win and apologised for the "kids" the old 657 firm would be embarassed by that yesterday. Can't believe they react like that to losing and seeing George dick about with his top off, how the fuck do they think we've coped for the last few years!! Unbelivable from them, no sense of humour and clearly nothing better to do in Portsmouth.

On the pitch that 1st half was the best 45 mins I've seen from a Latics side in many years...we were superb. Every player contributed, that was Dummigan's best game since signing, Bryan is a quality centre back won countless headers, Hunt settled into the game really well and looks good both defending and getting forward, Placide is bat shit crackers as all keepers should be, he claims everything that comes into the box, must be so reassuring for that defence knowing he's there and it's no coincidence that Clarky looks back to his best again. Davies is a different player now, holds the ball up so well, his strength on the ball is ridiculous, he was back to being mental and loving it at the end as well!

Doyle and Byrne are on another level though, don't know how long we can keep them together but we need to enjoy it whilst it lasts. There's a real togetherness as well, they are enjoying their football and it shows on the pitch and at the end of the game they are straight over to thank the fans, I hate to get carried away but can't help feeling we're on the verge of something...should be another lively one against Blackburn, loving my football again at the moment!!

Good post but just going to highlight this bit here obviously we don't know the details of any takeover yet but keeping hold of these players maybe a stronger possibility than some think, I get the impression we maybe able to start shifting our expectations north in the coming months interms of the type of player we can realistically expect to be lining up in a blue (or tangerine) shirt.

Latics were just fantastic yesterday. They played like the home team. The Sky Sports App stats at half time showed us having had 16 shots to Pompey’s 4.

Doyle’s finish for his second goal was sublime, really hope we can look at getting him permanently in January if we have the money from the investment.

Every player was excellent though.

It was the best performance I’ve seen from a Latics team in years! And to say we were the away team makes it even better. Let’s hope we can keep up this momentum.

Don't know if it's be mentioned on this thread, but what formation did we play? Did we still play 3 at back - i.e. Dummigan replacing Wilson or did we revert to back 4 with Hunt and Dummigan as full backs. Wasn't at the game so just curious.

Pretty much 4-4-2 I’d say. Dummigan RB, Hunt LB, Clarke and Bryan CB’s.

Byrne and Fane in the middle with Gardner and Nepomuceno out wide. Davies and Doyle up top.

They interchanged a little but basically that’s how I saw the formation. They look a lot more solid now that’s for sure!
