Strike partnership/Team for Crawley

Recommended Posts

Missed the weekend game against Crewe, was on a stag do in Magaluf so was dying with the worst hangover i've ever had in bed at the time we were playing, and sounds like I was having more fun than people watching the game! Where we proper :censored:e? Anywho, what side would you play this weekend? I've defended Rooney but saw he was taken off at HT maybe worth giving Mcdonald + JCH a go again?

He's gone on record praising Wes and suggested Mac will have a run.

So he'll either go Dayton behind Mac in a 4-4-1-1/ 4-2-3-1, or quite an aggressive 4-3-1-2 with Dayton behind Rooney and Mac, and Wes, Smith and Monty as the three.

The latter could become a 4-4-2 off the ball quite quickly with Dayton dropping back I suppose...whereas with the former, I'd just be concerned about it becoming a 4-5-1 with the striker becoming totally isolated.

Still don't think JCH has done enough to persuade him the boss to start him, and, post-Mellor, he might be mindful of his discipline when considering throwing him in from the start for an away game...

Whatever we do we need to find a partnership up top and stick with it swapping and changing is doing no good whatsoever. Strikers need consistency to breed consistency

Agreed. McDonald and Rooney to start.

Rooney taken off at half time versus Crewe due to a foot injury. So I would expect same starting 11but with Dayton playing in midfield as he did in the second half.

So is LJ dropping Sid or you?

I'd stick with the 4-4-2, certainly on Saturday away at Crawley. The defence and centre midfield will need to be disciplined so Smith and Wes have to start and the current back 4 have earned their places.

Dayton through the middle is an option later on if we need to unlock their defence, but he shouldn't play in the hole at the expense of a 2nd striker. I'd be happy with any of the 3 wingers playing. Up front I agree that strikers need to be part of a consistent partnership to work most effectively, but at the same time I'm not convinced that Rooney merits another start. MacDonald and Philliskirk would be my pick, while I still have doubts that the 2 would be too similar to work together they both have earned starts from previous games.

Oxley

Lanzoni

Tarky

Grounds

Mills

Dayton

Smith

Wes

Montano

MacDonald

Philliskirk

That would be my team. Nothing against Sid I just prefer the other two.

Are we looking to bolster the midfield after the lad from City spat his dummy out?

Haven't heard anything regarding a replacement and question is are we looking bearing in mind he wasn't used in the first team.

Still think we need some creativity unless Mellor or one of the other kids steps up. Wes and Smith in the middle is a little cautious especially if we play two up front as opposed to an attacking midfielder to link midfield and attack.

I've read the criticism regarding Rooney and think its unfair. He needs the ball to feet and lately we have been playing two many air balls. Still reckon he's more a target man to hold ball up, play in the wingers and his strike partner - McDonald or Philliskirk.

You didn't mention Sid in your previous post.

That's because I didn't have him in the team! I presume Montano would be a replacement for him if he starts. Although Sid could be in if he played Dayton behind one striker.

The 4-1-3-2 mentioned above looks good and fits Monty, Sid and Dayton into the team. But unless they can get their foot in, I reckon we'd be over-run in midfield (we have been with two central midfielders!).

Solely looking ahead to Sat, I can't see him dropping Wes after his effort on Sat and the boss praising him so much.
