  1. According to the Oldham Advertiser: "Oldham Council is to forge ahead with plans to allow Oldham Athletic to build a new stadium in Failsworth by registering the disputed land as a charitable trust. As part of the 'scheme' it will apply to the Charity Commission for permission to swap the charitable status of 8.6 acres of land north of the Lancaster Club with an as yet unidentified site. The council hopes this will appease residents opposed to losing the swathes of grassland to a 12,000 seater stadium and community facilities, and allow the stalled development to progress. Following expert legal advice the council has finally accepted that the land has charitable status after months of discussion with the regulator were inconclusive." Is that clear? Sounds a bit like Clayton Playing Fields (Part 2)?
  2. How much would an Arsenal type painting of stand full of supporters cost! How much a week does the highest paid player receive (name not required)? What is the total wage bill for the last full year? Why does 1 company own the football club and another the stadium/land?
  3. What is the size of the (ex) BAe site, compared to the size of BP? Could we manage without the additional 11.75 acres that's in dispute? Just a thought! Answers in acres please!
  4. Not quite! I read somewhere that Latics would buy the BAe site on the proviso that the council would agree to lease the club the adjacent land. Watch this space!
  5. Negative stories are usually on the front page, with positive stories on the inner pages. This is a non-decision by the Charity Commission.
  6. The stadium will be a sponsor's name. However, the 4 stands could be: The Oldham Road Stand The Boundary Stand The Broadway Stand The Chadderton Stand
  7. Failsworth is a town in Lancashire and also part of the Oldham borough for the last 35 years. It's not a suburb of Manchester. Say YES to Failsworth.
  8. This is not a serious thread as you're blaming TTA. Anyone else looking to invest £10m in Latics? Didn't think so!
  9. It's good to read a positive article about the new stadium in The Chron for a change, and supported with some facts and statistics. This part compensates for the anti-Latics propaganda that has appeared in the news pages over recent weeks.
  10. Thanks LaticsPete - I now know what issues to address in my letter of support to the planning committee. Just waiting for the planning application now!
  11. Will the petition say Nimbys and Luddites sign here? A new stadium, for the borough's only professional football club, is very much needed and fully supported by the club and the majority of its fans. This regeneration project is for the benefit of the whole borough. It is not the exclusive preserve of a minority of Failsworth residents. However, it's time the club put in its planning application, so anyone and everyone can have their say.
  12. I've posted the following on the Chron website: "Latics have already had an open forum that certain individuals decided not to attend. Traffic links in Failsworth are better than at Boundary Park, so 23 home matches a year will not be a problem. There is no evidence that house prices will fall, and they may even increase as a result of regeneration. Latics are also a family club with a history of well behaved fans. Do these 80 people represent the whole of Failsworth, and why should they halt a much needed multi-million regeneration project?" Don't let the NIMBYs win.
  13. Now why would anyone oppose this small, yet wonderful, development?
  14. Does anyone know where I can get these as ringtones?
  15. Maybe Latics, or even Oldham Council, should comment on why some other locations in the borough are not suitable?
  16. £350k according to one Blackpool source? No doubt with the usual add-ons!
  17. I don't think we could find a piece of land cheap enough - or flat enough - in Grasscroft or Uppermill.
  18. . . . And his junior sidekick, Cllr Jim McMahon, has attacked the club for a second time in a week. He also thinks Chadderton is too far from Failsworth to hold a forum! Some people will complain about anything.
  19. Failsworth itself has not been a part of the City of Manchester for 115 years, since the Failsworth Urban District, in the county of Lancashire, was created following the 1894 Local Government Act.
