  1. Official site match report. Baxter was again lively as he was on Saturday with his cameo against Notts County. The former Everton striker forced Slocombe into a diving save with a :censored: from 25 yards. Messy!
  2. I've always loved the 'small and lightweight' criticism. Messi, Xavi and Iniesta should just stop trying to kid us and that Paul Scholes isn't six foot either.
  3. My recollection is that he said Oldham never made an approach.
  4. I'd be careful about saying that out loud. I was a smarmy Grammar school boy too, although I can't recall him - no-one ever remembers younger kids, do they?
  5. Squad: Cisak, M'voto, Black, Wesolowski, Diamond, Clarke, Morais, Furman, Simpson, Adeyemi, Bouzanis, Smith, Tarkowski, Parker, Taylor, Lee, Scapuzzi, Mellor, Mancini, Kuqi.
  6. For my fellow Aussie tics, the match will be shown on Wednesday morning -3AM! - on One HD. Better late than never I suppose.
  7. Please don't mention Selhurst Park! Have we ever got a result there against three different teams?
  8. Not wanting to defend Australians too much but he played for Perth Glory. Cheesy but understandable.
  9. Speaking of Australia league nutters, this guy will be needing a new club soon. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gwHzCtRa2SE The young lad will be out for up to a year.
  10. The damn lies and statistics seem to back that statement up: Tranmere 5 goal attempts to Southampton's 15 = 2-0 to Tranmere. Oldham 9 to Southampton's 14 = pants down humiliation.
  11. Was there a hint of handball in their first goal? Seems like a slightly sheepish celebration from the final crosser - there were a few around me who thought he'd handled.
  12. Looks like I picked the right game to see us play after two years! Southampton were obviously better in every way - body language before the game started, size, strength, fitness, work rate and tactics. Sometimes the planets align and you get a spanking - anyone remember Oxford away the season we finished as champions? Oxford could have hit ten and we couldn't have complained. Point being it can happen, seem to remember it happening to Southampton last season. However, our midfield was average to say the least. Stephens got caught in possession at least four times that I counted, a good player would pass quicker or turn out of trouble. Furman was fairly anonymous. Every time we got the ball it seemed like they had more players on the pitch, regularly four on two. But I think Dickov has to take some responsibility. The defensive tactics were found out big time, we played narrow and gave them the wings and the width and they took full advantage. Thats why our full backs were given such a hard time, with balls pinged diagonally out past them. Most importantly, he didn't change it after half time. Southampton scored with every attack second half up to the fifth goal, pretty impressive finishing but a good indication that something isn't working properly. Still enjoyed it though, once the gallows humour started. I though Taylor was our best player by a country mile - the only one who seemed bothered and up for it. Didn't enjoy the booing at the end - what's the point?
  13. The very definition of online futility - substitute for Latics to get any message board!
  14. As a very occasional poster, for my part, CJ was one of those repetitive posters that turned me away. Not just that he was a doomer but that he never had a solution to offer and that any thread he popped up in turned to a "not a-bloody-gain" argument - add oafc0000 to the mix and I'm out of here everytime.
  15. might be wrong but I have a recollection that Roger Palmer played much of his career designated as an attacking midfielder??
  16. Just a thought on the paying Penney off scenario - is it just a coincidence that he's just clocked up a calendar year? I'm thinking along the lines of him being guaranteed a year but with a performance target that enables his dismissal - without compensation - after that? The point being that his salary may not be a big hole in next years budget after all. Just thought I'd a add bit more conjecture as there's not enough on here.
  17. I'll have a go. The most we could offer him - smashing our wage structure - is around 25K a week, probably 50K a week less than he'd get sitting out his contract at Man U. That's 2.6 million quid to a player reaching the end of his career, I don't think he loves us that much! Reality is that he may come after next season if - and it's a biggy - no premiership or rich championship club make him a better offer than we can afford. A slightly more far fetched scenario is that Taggart tells him that he has no part in his plans next season and allows him to go out on loan and Scholes says he'll only go to us. Unlikely, but it would be nice to have them subsidising a Latics player to that degree.
  18. I've thought for ages that there should be a section of the ground that, although you can buy season tickets or a ticket on the day, there are no reserved seats - so that everyone can mingle and get an atmosphere going, which was the case when we had the old terracing. Probably contravenes hundreds of health and safety regulations
  19. I really can't see the problem with NK. He made it obvious from day 1 that he was ambitious and wanted to play at a higher level. He hasn't strung us along, doesn't owe us anything and all this ollocks about repaying the 'debt' - we wouldn't have brought him in if he couldn't do the job. Do we have to go through this every time someone leaves? Despising Porter I understand because he shafted the club financially but Kilkenny?? Played well, told the truth and left as expected.
  20. Remember that as being quite embarrassing as I remember the Chaddy getting 'taken' quite regularly?
  21. Obviously outvoted! I suppose I have a slightly different perspective as I'd like a T shirt I can wear out and about and not just to the football - just a little more subtle. I only wear comme des garcons.
  22. Forgot to say, Grovesy was a bit of a fashion plate so he'd be a bit choosy himself.
  23. Being picky but me too. I'd also prefer the front image and lettering to be much smaller - eg if it all fit inside Alan's head as is. What colour would they be? - not a fan of white T shirts in general. Pick Pick Pick
