  1. Would you play him in place of gerrard alongside another centre half (Bryan hopefully)? He impresses me and as you say I think he will develop with experience.
  2. Apart from the names you’ve mentioned I don’t think any tears have been shed for the ones shown the door so far. Think Wellens has got it spot on. I think any more outgoings will depend on incomings. Eg we are short on numbers up front at the moment but if two strikers sign then Duffus may go out on loan.
  3. Who’ve you got lined up to replace them Richie?
  4. Probably for the best, had many chances under different managers and never quite lived up to expectations. No doubt he was on a decent wedge too.
  5. Let’s just hope he doesn’t have to get the train there, we wouldn’t want his dad getting upset again.
  6. I think Stott left in 1999 not long after he suggested a merger with Bury and Rochdale.
  7. Not a good tweet from his dad, I’d be embarrassed if that was my dad to be honest. Reading between the lines I think he will be gone once the new signings come in.
  8. We’ll never know the true reasons for the sale of Tarky’s clause but as you say it was common knowledge on this forum that he was after a move back up north not long after he’d joined Brentford. Surely the club must have been aware of this too considering Tarky was and still is a frequent visitor to BP. It was very foolish or naive of Corney to cash out on this bearing in mind he was still under contract and also Brentford do not sell players for peanuts these days.
  9. Fair enough then, I haven’t seen that. RW has said he wants to bring in two strikers so I guess the other will be a poacher type striker.
  10. A lot of talk about JCH but is Wellens genuinely interested in him or is just a case of him being an ex player that’s out of favour at his current club? LJ got the club a good deal with him, the fee was undisclosed but he was Rotherham’s record signing at the time. I don’t think he is the type of player we need at the moment unless Davies is on the move.
  11. Said this myself a few months ago. That Clarke and Gerrard would be useful on ploughed field type pitches in the winter. If Clarke is leaving I guess Bryan must be staying and his wage (Clarke’s wage) will be used elsewhere.
  12. I’m a big fan of Clarke, he was immense last season and played a major role in keeping us up both defensively and in terms of contributing vital goals. However, looking at things objectively he has lost a few yards of pace since last season and hasn’t been as sharp. No doubt he is on a sizeable wedge too. He doesn’t seem the type to want to warm a bench either.
  13. Hunt, there are rumours he has a minimum release fee of £300k.
  14. Another pitch inspection at 1pm according to Twitter.
  15. Must admit that I was surprised not to us mentioned when I read that report.
  16. It is an unusual rivalry bearing in mind the distance between the two places but there is some history between the two sides dating back to the late 70s. It stems from a couple of controversy filled games when they were both promotion rivals in division three. There were sendings off in both games and a lot of animosity between the teams. In the end neither team got promoted but Gillingham missed out by a point and still blame Swindon for it to this day.
  17. Didn’t look like we’d deliberately set out grind out a 0-0 draw to me but each to their own.
  18. What a nervy game that was. Didn’t we play the bulk of it, around 80 mins with 10 men? A long, goal bound throw in from Andy Holt and Beevers flicked it in to send us into raptures.
  19. That scenario doesn’t surprise me. I’m not a Sharp apologist by any means but his hands were tied by that board. It was said at the time that Big Joe recommended him as his replacement. My belief is that he was appointed due to his lack of popularity. He was a bone chucked for the fans to bite whilst the board sold off the family silver. Further up the thread Gunnar was mentioned as a forgotten hero. Gunnar was probably the last saleable asset we had during 96-97 apart from an injury prone Richard Graham and maybe Carl Serrant, who went at the end of the following season. He was showing excellent form that season. That, combined with a few wins from Barlow’s and Ormondroyd’s goals gave us some hope. Yet as soon as an offer came in he was gone. I remember something about a loyalty bonus to Gunnar being trotted out as to why we sold him.
  20. He is a capable player on his day but sadly this only occurs once in every ten games or so. The Sheffield United fans said pretty much the same on their forum when he signed for us. Unfortunately, like a few other players on our books, he’s a waste of a wage and will probably be off in the summer.
  21. Sharp has said a few times in interviews that he would have signed him in a minute if it was down to him. He said we could’ve had him for £100k and he wasn’t on big wages and that he’s left it in Stott’s court to tie up the deal. Mind you hindsight is a wonderful thing, would he have made the same remarks if he’d turned out a duffer and not a Champions’ League winner.
