  1. Turned a corner? We've won 3 in 4, with the defeat against the favourites for the league.
  2. Given that we've gradually moved closer and closer to a Northern Ireland set up I doubt anyone with an argument they've got talent has got a chance of getting in. But if we're hanging onto the 'definitely changes' line from Robbo's post-match comments then I'd change the following: Dummigan MUST come in for Law, who had improved for a few games but we are crying out for pace, width, energy and let's be honest Dummigan is just simply a far better RB. Reckord for Dunne, who has slowly gone backwards and is a bit of liability defensively. As for the midfield, where on earth do we start?!! Klok is one of the single worst footballers I have seen at BP over the last 26 years - no technique, headless chicken, walking yellow/red card (if he could get near them) & I watched his movement when we had the ball 1st half and it was utterly horrendous - no clue what to do. Banks wants the game to be played in slow motion, decent technique but opposition passes him by when we haven't got the ball. Crofty hasn't started a game well for 2 years. Added to this I feel Ewrin needs a rest and I'd like to see the partnership from the 1st half against Carlisle, which looked fruitful, have another chance - Ladapo and McKay - and they could complement each other. The 2 up top yesterday, granted with no service, were playing on different pitches and didn't link up at all. Let's bring in some players with a bit of technical ability; Winny, Flynn, Dummigan, Fane. Also tempted to play Wilson with Clarke. Ripley Dummigan Clarke Wilson Reckford Fane Green Winchester Flynn Ladapo McKay
  3. 5 at the back - surely that is set up perfect for Dummigan? Is Fane injured? Thought we'd see both Winny and Jarahldo-Martin on the bench. Klok is again fortunate to retain his spot for me. On a positive note. Like the look of the front two. Ladapo away with more space on a massive pitch could be lethal. Fingers crossed.
  4. When did Shez's side ever put a game out of sight? That's the one thing we never did under Shez (last season). A very strange comment. There could be far more goals in this strike force than we have had in previous seasons IMO. Shocking referee again. With a pen to go 2-0, like at Bradford, we would have won. For what it's worth, I also agree he got the tactics wrong but not the personnel, barring Flynn who had to play (5player rule) - Erwin has been playing right / left wing and linking from there all season and the partnership of Ladapo and McKay was good on Tuesday, yet he plays Erwin right up top. Very strange. We were way too narrow until the 80th minute when it was too late.
  5. Is McKay not performing? He was excellent on Tuesday and formed a potentially exciting partnership with Lapado. The movement between the two was excellent. Osei has come away from the match with most credit following his two goals but for me Lapado was far more impressive and will be a real threat to defences at our level. So direct and wants the ball played in to feet / over the top all the time. As for McKay, he played a variety of roles and offers the link play - his movement and hold-up play has been good all season & that goal was great for confidence levels as well as an excellent assist. Osei is raw and could be superb, however, he is not at this point ready to claim Billy's place IMO and I think SR sees him as an impact sub - possibly now getting more than his standard 5-10 mins though!
  6. I'm surprised that based on last nights performance so many are suggesting Mckay should lose his place. The first half was horrendous at the back but gave us a glimpse of what could be a really exciting partnership with Ladapo and Billy, who I felt had a superb game. Some of the link play was excellent, none more so than the offside goal which was a joy to see. McKay needed that goal to back up a decent start to this season - his movement and link-up is very good at times and Ladapo's directness, strength and speed could be a perfect foil. Osei has looked exciting when he has come on all season and that was a cracking cameo but I personally want to see him creating havoc from the bench against tiring defences after Ladapo has had 65 mins running them ragged (for now). Could Erwin start on the left and Flynn (fortunate that there's the 5 player rule) on the right, with McKay dropping deeper centrally if we're under the cosh, like he did last night?
  7. Please explain your reasons behind saying he isn't a captain in a million years...
  8. Only saw the two FA Youth Cup games and he came off the bench in both games. Very impressive off the bench in the first game against Luton. Used both feet and technically very good - linked well with Rio Murray. The 3 with the best chance for me though are Renshaw, who looks ready, Lee Knight (tricky winger with a gem of a touch and physically strong as well for his age) and Mantom at RB who is the quickest I've seen in the youth team for a while.
  9. You know what you get with Gerrard and it's not culture on the ball. However, once again did what he's paid for and had a good game. Both Wilsons solid as ever. Dieng excellent first half and AAH was a real handful again until his bad luck. Palmer splendid on the ball and always aware of how much time he's got; excellent retention of the ball on the right in the build up for Jones' stunner. For me though Kelly edged MOM. He isn't and doesn't claim to be the world's best passer but complements Palmer superbly. He was all action today and got forward when required. His two timely defensive interventions in the second half, before and after the goal, for me were as vital to the win as the goal itself. Well played Capitano!
  10. Comparing Kelly with Allott is one of the most ridiculous things I have ever seen on here.
  11. Got a feeling Shez will rotate a bit given the quick turnaround. forte, Palmer and possibly Thiele could all start. I predict (not what I want) Coleman Wilson Dieng Gerrard Holmes-Dennis Jones Palmer Kelly Forte Holloway Thiele Which would be incredibly harsh on Dummigan, who was back to his best at RB - hopefully Shez noticed this too! Main was flagging at the end and Winny doesn't play at home.
  12. At fault against Bury and Gillingham ... Please explain?!
  13. Did I read someone say it's time to give Cornell a go again? Forget a clanger not catching a ball - he just allows strikers to head the ball inside the 6-yard box whilst he feet remain locked to the line. Never seen a keeper so poor at commanding his box. If the option is Coleman or Cornell it's a no brainier and not sure when or whether we are allowed to bring in a keeper on loan.
  14. He should be dealing with a ball better than he did, granted, however, how the defence allowed 3 successive corners to land on the six-yard box is beyond me. Do we not have a free man at the front post at the moment? As the corner directly before the goal was cleared by Gerrard as it landed before reaching the front post. Lack of organisation for that run of corners. We see mistakes every game by opposition GKs yet Coleman is the worst thing since slice bread. At Wigan he makes 3 too class saves, same at Scunny yet a mistake against Posh (we won anyway) and tonight makes him the current boo boy. Eardley, Taylor, Philliskirk, Winch at times and now Joel. Some fickle fans out there just wanting a moan. Decent point and yes the results elsewhere went against us but remain unbeaten and we stay up. Lay off Coleman as it could be so much worse if Cornell comes back in.
  15. Out of contract but they'd be due a fee. He is absolutely superb and all the credit goes to Shez for a quite unreal find and loan coup. I think most fans who've watched him for the last 5 games would contribute to a player share attempt at signing him!!!!
  16. Or two players that complement each other perfectly? Personally Palmer was sublime was my MOM yesterday but I also thought Kelly was superb and so vital to the win. How many times did he dispose Gills high up the pitch? Yes he isn't the worlds' best passer but that's not newsworthy.
  17. It's been so long since we had strong CFs who give back as good as they get. Holloway got bullied all game yet never gave an inch - so so strong. For years away sides have come to BP with these type of forwards and looked so effective. Are either of them natural finishers - NO! But the influence they both had on the flow of the game was invaluable. Delighted! How the ref didn't give a penalty never mind a foul against Main is beyond me! 189 days?! Whey!
  18. ...but there would have already been one or ten if Cornell had been in goal. We can't afford another loan signing in the 16 man squad and doubt there is money for one now. How many league one keepers would have saved those two efforts at the death against Wigan - bet you could count them on one hand. Give the lad a break: he dropped (and recovered) a ball in the first half and then had a five minutes to forget but didn't concede. More than happy with Joel. The concern must be focused on the forwards and supply line. Winch, for all the good he does and loving the new desire to shoot, really needs to believe in his ability more when 1on1 and beat his man in the outside (or play him on the left), Murphy's failure to decide what to do for about a minute is crippling his progress despite the superb movement he offers. However, the main deficiency in our attacking play is confidence - one home victory I am certain will solve this but how long are we going to have to wait?
  19. Very harsh on Holloway. He bullied their CBs at times and looked like he has a really nice touch. Murphy, seemingly under instructions, was too far from him during the first half. There is a player there if we use him correctly. If Murph had released the ball earlier first half we'd be having a different conversation now - he still thinks he's playing in league 2 and expects so much time on the ball. I'm guessing Holloway was tiring hence the substitution.
  20. I'm more than happy seeing Shez bringing in hungry players who have been plying their trade in league 2. They both clearly have something to prove, Shez will have good knowledge having been in the same division for a few years now and surely we've had enough of 19yr old premier league kids, who hide, and past-it strikers like Ameobi, who has never been even close to prolific. Keep it up Shez - Palmer is a joy to watch!
  21. Can't see them letting him leave but we've been led to believe it's a striker and on loan (ruling out Holt) and being unable to sign until after today suggests it must be a Wigan player. If it is Davies it's a real coup and he clearly loves Shez and apparently Latics.
  22. Stop being tight then and get yourself a half-season ticket!! Super Carl!!
  23. More than happy with this signing. 100 games at the age of 20 says a lot about his talent and maturity. Burton have clearly adopted a consistent team selection all season and those that have been in the first XI have clearly been performing well enough to keep quality players out. Shez has spent the last few years in this lad's division seeing him develop and is by far and away better equipped to judge Palmer than anyone commenting on here. Do we need a centre half and a goalscorer? Of course. But I have faith that there is still time and it is vital they are the right men coming in. The midfield and/or instructions given to them (I'm a believer it was the latter) has been the major flaw in tactics at home all season. If Shez sees this lad as someone who can open up a defence and get the ball moving through the middle much quicker, then that'll do for me - he certainly knew how to do those things himself back in the day.
  24. A right handful all night. Not sure if the switch (bringing on 14) was to add extra pace to the defence. He was endlessly offside but best outfield player all night.
