  1. Whatever you might think of Barry he at least was prepared to put himself in the firing line. Football is an emotional business and not everyone will agree with one another, it's fair to say the last week it's reached melting point. But I just hope whoever comes in can put any personal agendas they might have behind them and represent the views of the fans because lets without them there would be no club. This is potentially a great opportunity, but it needs as many fans as possible to get on board.
  2. To be fair he's mentioned on numerous times that he reads this messageboard
  3. We seem to have had a lot of these inbetween players over the years, they're great when you want to control a game but when you're chasing a goal they can be a bit of a hindrance. Yesterday it took a centre back to show the other attacking players how to attack a ball going into the box
  4. Mansfield when Eyresey got sent off and Fitz bagged a last minute winner from a penalty
  5. If nobody wants to discuss the point you made then ignore them, a messageboard is about interaction It's fair to say we're stuck in a rut, confidence will be very low and Monday certainly won't be an easy game. This may sound a bit self-defeatist but I'd be bloody delighted with a point to stop the rot. We've seen it a few times over the years when we've gone on a losing run and picked up a point and a few have still not been convinced but then we've grown confidence and gone onto better results. Crewe away last season being a prime example.
  6. I think that season we had the worst disciplinary record in the league, but we also edges a hell of a lot of scrappy games. These are the sort of sides who win promotion from this league, ones who will bully the opposition
  7. I understand your sentiment and I've felt that a lot over the years, in fact of the 20 odd seasons I've supported us I've seen only 5 top half finishes. One of the problems I think is any tiny bit of glory like the unbeaten run earlier on this season and a few go overboard with it. I beleive most of us are level headed and in all honestly we I knew a bad spell of results was coming, as it is a tougher league than in recent seasons. What gets me and a lot of fans is the manner of the defeats
  8. The aim for this season is progress and that is based on where we are in May not in December, a lot of Football is still to be played to me realistic progress is there being absaloute no chance of us going down. Recents results have clearly not been good enough but a scrappy 1-0 on Monday night and I'll be bloody delighted. We've just got to plough on
  9. A side that finishes in the top 6 would have ground out a win today, we've drawn too many games from winning positions to suggest we'll get the top 6. That said there is still a lot of Football to be played between now and May and I just hope we can turn recent form around, because the last 4 games have been the sort of results you get in relegation seasons. It could go either way really
  10. The frustrating thing about Jabo is I see a good player in there, but he struggles to fit in with the way we play. Theres way too much sideways Football being played at the moment, too much panicing on the edge of the box and aimless crosses going in. Personally I think we need to play more direct, especially against sides like Crewe who put men behind the ball
  11. The effort was there, but the application is still lacking. I suspect a few players were nervous, hence why we hesitated a lot on the edge of the opposition penalty area, we needed an early goal to settle the nerves and when it didn't come the nerves kicked in all over the pich
  12. The best teams at our level keep it simple and get the ball into areas that hurt teams. Our problem over recent years has been trying to over compliance things which ends up in 90 minutes of us knocking the ball sideways with no direction.
  13. I understand how someone would feel robbed after paying hard earned cash to watch your team put in a gutless performance and get stuffed 7-0. But the reality is that the money from the gate receipts went to the home team. We hear a lot about how the "product on the pitch" needs to improve to get more fans in etc. But as someone else has mentioned you pay money to watch a game of Football. That doesn't mean you're guaranteed to see your team win. You can question the players commitment but the only person who can justify the effort of an individual is the individual themselves.
  14. When I think of 3 at the back I think of a back line of Garnett, Hotte and Paul Jones get destroyed by fast forwards in the 00/01 season
  15. You don't get that many people called Duncan anymore, shame really
  16. We have this discussion many times on this forum. The thing is that if I went to Latics for the Football I'd have probably given up a long time ago. The whole idea of going to the match and supporting a team to me should be much more of a social thing than about how good the standard of Football is. But in this respect what does the club have to offer? I was in the Frizzel bar last night it was cold, it was damp, there was nowhere to sit and in my opinion the beer was crap. Compare that to Glossop North End and a lot of other non-league grounds you have a nice warm club house with comfy seats which serves quality local ale. A lot of people may scoff at the idea of Non-League Football but the crowds at that level are on the up as a lot of people are becoming more disillusioned with the professional game. A couple of which I know personally who used to be season ticket holders. We can't compete with Utd and City in terms of Footballing ability but one thing we could do better than them is offer a personal touch.
  17. His tactics put us on the wrong foot but I could tell once we went 2-0 down that some of our players were terrified especially Kusunga who then made the mistake which led to the third. I think it's a little of both, the tactics lost us the game but the poor decisions made by some of the players led to it being a hammering.
  18. Too much emphasis on keeping the ball has stifled attacking play at our level of the game. The tikka-takka method works at the highest level, but when you think of the teams who have gained promotion at our level in recent years I think only Swansea have played a passing gamel. Most of the successful sides tend gamble more in the final third and as a result end up grinding out results by being more clinical than the rest of the sides in the Division. The amount of times we've lost to a team at the top and heard a fellow fan say something along the lines of "they were nothing special". But the reality they didn't need to be, they have just taken their chances in a game where we haven't. Preston away last season being the prime example, we kept the ball well but how often did we trouble their keeper?
  19. We've had far too many wingers in recent years with no end product. A far cry from when we had Eyresey putting in a quality ball on a regular basis
  20. I'm not going, the sheer lack of passion and eeriness of the place last season quite frankly depressed me
  21. I've never seen a nipple in the Daily Express.... I don't intend to read about a c*** neither
  22. It's a bit like the Judean peoples front vs The people's front of Judea. With United and City being the Romans
  23. We had a few just in front of us complaining about standing but to be fair we were right at the back of the stand and the people in front only stood up on the odd occasion.
  24. Admittedly you do get people who probably went yesterday to cause trouble. I know it's the sort of thing you hear a lot when someone gets into a bit of bother. But Tony is genuinely one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet and I know a fair few on here will say the same thing. I didn't see what went on but it's quite upsetting to hear about it. I only hope he's back enjoying watching the team I know he loves very soon.
  25. Either this The 1-0 win over City in 2005 or the 3-0 away win at Huddersfield in 2006
