  1. I would certainly welcomed a player like him, but I do feel the lack of goals is more down to the way we play rather than the lack of a decent striker.
  2. Ah here we go, lets all get on our high horses and snort about a group of people committing the evil disgusting crime of supporting their Football team vocally because they had the indecency of reacting to being harshly treated after paying their hard earned cash to support their team. Granted some of the negative chanting was a little OTT and I for one didn't join in, but the behavior of the stewards today certainly didn't help the matter. As for commenting on what should or shouldn't be sung because it doesn't meet your "mega cool" standards. What vocal support did you offer the team today? Because I for one I didn't hear a peep out of any other home section in the ground. Today I questioned to myself why I actually bother with this Football club. Not based on what's happened on the pitch because it will get better, but being treated like I'm back at school for singing support for the Football team I happen to be a fan of. Those stewards today needlessly created a conflict and those of you scoffing on top of your high horse either need to get your facts straight, or pipe down. The club struggles to get decent crowds in and I have a horrible feeling we may have lost a few more on future home gates after today. Whether you think they're part of a "pubeless posse" or not we can't afford to keep losing this support.
  3. ^this Look at Rotherham last season, Alex Ravell for years has been an unremarkable lower league journeyman but playing in front of their midfield he bagged 13 goals which helped them get promotion last season. I still think we would have got more out of Adam Rooney if he played with a winger or midfielder who would consistently deliver a decent cross. If Dayton was encouraged to cross the ball rather than take an extra touch we might do alright, otherwise we're relying soley on Mills when it comes to crosses and he wasn't in the game much on Saturday.
  4. 181 bus is quicker (bearing in mind it drops you off closer to the ground) but the tram is more frequent
  5. A lot of promising signs from yesterday. I didn't think we were fantastic, but we managed to get two goals out of nothing which was pleasing to see. I expect to see a few teething problems on the opening day I did feel we were at times shaky at the back and a bit lethargic going forward. Dayton is very good when on the ball, but he needs to start offering an end product. He has a habbit of taking an extra few touches when a pass is on and at times yesterday he did that and a Colchester defender broke up the play. I was impressed with Colchester's number 9, he caused us problems all afternoon, this is what JCH needs to be doing a bit more using his strength and speed. I think we will get better when the players get to play together a bit more, maybe start with Philliskirk next week ahead of Dayton. The next few games certainly won't be easy.
  6. They conceeded after 25 seconds yesterday. I can't think of anything worse on the opening day of the season, especially when you go on to get spanked 4-0
  7. I was very impressed with Forte today, naturally Colchester tightened up on him in the 2nd half. But from my first impressions it looks like we've potentially got a very good player.
  8. I'd personally play him in the number 10 role just behind Henry Blofeld
  9. In recent years we seem to have attacted either a tricky winger or a winger who can cross a ball, the last one who could consistently do both was probably Eyresey
  10. I'd suggest it was more down to nerves rather than being thick.
  11. Get the capacity really high and do a Bradford, sell season tickets really cheap and then gradually increase the price each season.

  13. I seem to recall we didn't win a single pre-season game in the 02/03 season. That season seemed to go fairly well. Though you've really got to judge these things based on their own individual merit
  14. Most opposition players in League 1 tend to blend into the background. I think when a player sticks out by ability you know they're going onto better things, Assombalonga is one of those players. Peterborough's first goal against us in the 5-4 win is the sort of goal that not many strikers at our level could score, the combination of pace and timing scored that goal. Another player who I beleive stuck out at this level was Jose Baxter, but like has been mentioned Peterborough can afford to say no which will add to the value, we were luck that Baxter signed another contract, but ultimatly we didn't get the fee that perhaps a player like him was worth.
  15. Is it not possible that he might have followed both us and Utd? As much as many of our fans despise Utd and as much as we all know at least one obnoxious moron following them who will belittle anything to do with Football outside the top 4 of the Premiership. There are those people out there who support two teams, as strange as that may appear to a lot of die-hards out there and these people exist and pay their money.
  16. Ok so the reaction to the new kit seems to have been slightly "meh". Some like it, some don't, nothing I didn't expect really. It's not my favourite colour, but neither was last seasons kit. But what is your favourite away kit we've worn over the years? If the club were to turn round to you and say "what colour would you want the away kit to be?" what would your answer be? My personal favourite was this one we wore back in 05/06, you can't go wrong with a white kit in my opinion, plus if we had a blue home kit and a white away kit, we'd probably have to bring a third kit out which is potentially more ££££s
  17. I think this is a very interesting thread bearing in mind that we've not only been relatively mediocre in this period. But we've had a lot of players come and go I think people didn't appreciate him at the time, but he was probably the last central midfielder we've had who could both create and score goals on a regular basis My team would be Gk: Bouzanis RB: Lee CB: Gregan CB: Tarkowski LB: Evina (remember him) RM: Taylor CM Stephens CM: Wesolowski LM: Harkins CF: Baxter ST: Abbott (scored over 30% of our goals in 09/10)
  18. It's wrong to judge these things on crowds. For example I read somewhere that Walsall make more money out of advertising hoardings than they do from gate receipts.
  19. If it could be done, I'd suggest to have a banner with a pic of David Brent with the caption "let's show the Swindon lot how it's done" for everytime we play Swindon. Or am I just too obsessed about the Office?
  20. I was thinking the other day how those players involved in our cup run a couple of seasons ago would be pretty much forgotton about had it not been for just over 180 minutes of Football. Would anyone consider them greats? The ones which stick out for me would be Eyres, Shez and Gregan.
  21. From what I saw in the League 2 Play-off final, they will need to drastically improve if they're to challenge in my eyes. Though if they sign Stephen Dobbie it will be a massive step in the right direction
  22. 1. Bristol City 2. Sheff Utd --------------- 3. Preston 4. Peterborough 5. Notts County 6. Scunthorpe . . 14. Oldham . --------------- 21. Crawley 22. Rochdale 23. Fleetwood 24. Crewe
  23. You forgot Billy Clarke is at Bradford. I'll reiterate it's not necessarily a goalscorer we need but either an attacking midfielder in the Harkins mould or another winger preferebly one who can put a decent ball into the box
