    Lingard missed 4 sitters. 4! If that is Sterling he gets murdered in the press. There are a number of players that performed worse than the usual-go-to-whipping-boy Sterling. We should have had 2 pens too. It’s 3 points. When was the last time that happened in a tournament. We’ll go through. That’ll do for now. Let’s see what happens.

    With respect that is naive in the extreme. The players won’t give a toss about it. Also, to add to what others have said... the atmosphere when we had only 3 sides occupied was no better, it was probably worse

    He should be able to turn down players he doesn’t want. Absolutely.

    Increasingly managers don’t pick players. Either owners or directors of football do. A manager should be a decent coach/tactician first and foremost. At our level a manager will never have a team full of players he wants or needs.

    The only answer is not sure. It’s impossible to know in a case like this. I think it’s safe to say it’s a better bet than the majority of other recent appointments.

    Good press conference. A slightly more mature and less self obsessed man with a bit of humour and humility is a refreshing change to the self important, humourless pricks we have had recently.

    Right. So presumably you feel the same about managers bringing players in too then as, since Royle, they have (pretty much to a man) had an equally dismal record at player recruitment.

    Not sure why the owner bringing players in is automatically seen as a problem? Anyhow, decent interview, level headed. Managing expectation, which any sensible manager should do.

    Regardless of what anyone thinks of the appointment, I think we can all agree that we get behind him and the team and see where it takes us. It’s s clean sheet of paper.
