  1. Alls well that ends well. Can we play the last 11 games away please?
  2. No just trying to counter BPs ludicrous claim that football was better back then or the more ridiculous notion that players were fitter without these trendy fitness coaches and GPS's are a load of nonsense, it's a rather tinted glasses view of the world back then.
  3. Players have got far fitter and faster since I started in the 90s so they would be way quicker and faster than they were from the 50's.
  4. If you have ever read inverting the pyramid a very good book for the thinking football fan it tells how Brazils 1970s team prepared meticulously for playing in the heat and the altitude of Mexico including diet fitness training . plus sessions with NASA to help them cope with the conditions. This was funded by the government at the time who used the success of the national football team as national propaganda. It's a side that is forever remembered for its flamboyant style but the preparations were done with some of the most advanced Sports science of the time. I was told the story whilst on a tour of Goodison Park once that Dixie Dean would rock up to the match on Saturday on his motorbike park up at the pub had a pint and a smoke before nipping over the road to Goodison to usually score. Overtime things have changed and while not all change has been good geberally they have mainly been to the advancement of football.
  5. But these trendy GPS devices would mean he'd be less skilful... But seriously you are right Bobby Charlton had the ability to shoot off both feet using balls significantly heavier than what's used now so I'd imagine he'd be pretty amazing doing that today.
  6. Old football was infact shit if you want to see how bad football was back then see above a fixture between 2 of the top teams in the country Liverpool and Manchester United. The defending from Manchester United was something I'd expect to see from a group Under 9s on the pitch at Half time. So too is the miss from Kenny Dalglish one of the most technically accomplished players of his generation.
  7. Speaking of physiotherapists I noticed Lee Nobes was standing with Jurgen Klopp at Wembley on Sunday he's come along way since he left us infact he's worked as Head physio at both City and Liverpool
  8. I'd be surprised if he doesn't change it up I'd be staggered if Lundstrum ends up at RWB again so Sutton Green in or what's happened to Sachdev? He might even Start Dallas
  9. The majority of the squad are contracted beyond the end of the season so we probably won't see a massive clearout we don't need a massive clear out either if we get in the play offs but miss out then its not going to take a massive jump for us to make the next step and go up.
  10. Well if it was as simple as telling someone to do things and they would just do it then this whole Football Manager thing would be a really easy gig. For all we know he could well have prepared them right said all the right things before the game and told them to start fast get the crowd on side and to do it for Frank but footballs not that simple if it was I'd be making a living in it.
  11. I think bringing them in for a meeting to go through Saturday this morning wouldn't have been a bad thing tbh to clear the air and to remind them of the standards required then start a fresh tomorrow. I'd have hoped and expected no doubt that Mellon let them know how he felt about that performance yesterday and a few bollocking have been dealt out. While he chose to be fairly reserved in his reaction to the defeat on the website privately I think he was fuming. But that stays in the dressing room. That's between him and the players and I don't need to know the details. We can't dwell on it too much but the players can't complain if they got a rocket after that on Saturday.
  12. Do the club know you come on here and slate them for not taking your recommendations because personally I don't blame for nit responding to your emails.
  13. Trying to reach for a silver lining to our current home form. In the 2002-03 Season our best post Royle season so the best in the last 3 decades we had a difficult winter at home where between us beating Stockport on the 2nd of November until beating Colchester on the 8th of March we only won 1 game at home that was to Brentford on a Tuesday night a run of 1 win in 10 in all competitions. I'd say that probably cost us promotion that season it could well cost us promotion this season. But it proves that home form won't be absolutely definitive in us having a good season and if you are in the play offs you have a punchers chance of going up* *NB: That's not me defending us shitting the bed yesterday it was as frustrating as it was predictable but we shouldn't write this season off yet.
  14. Absolutely one team has risen to the occasion so far and its not us we have barely strung 2 passes together and have been second to most balls.
  15. Today certainly won't be El classico and it would be naive to think so, it's a National league fixture at the end of the day. But a good performance like Barnet at home will see everyone go home satisfied I just don't want to see another Hendon performance.
  16. I'd rather we created more chances closer to the goal as not many people can score from far out, well Sheron can if he gets a clear sight and it sits nicely for him. I always used to cringe when Os Fane got the ball 30 yards from goal and the crowd shouted shoot you knew the corner flags were in trouble at that point.
  17. If 3 of them go in then only having 8 attempts shouldn't matter. We played well at Maidenhead right?
  18. Liverpool fans in the home end might have had an impact we were also on tv plus generally averaging 3-4000 as their was an apathy around at the time as we were going nowhere.
  19. Don't for the love of god put in a low energy half hearted piss poor performance where we spend the game playing a few sideways balls with no movement ahead of us before someone launches it out for a goal kick as Kidderminster sit 10 men behind the ball and for us to lose to a set piece. Not tomorrow of all days. High energy high tempo pass the ball quickly and lots of people making runs and when we lose the ball put the press on straight away to win it back. Their defence shouldn't get a moments peace.
  20. If we do that then it's 10 points from a possible 12 in the last 4 games. Which is promotion for in anyone's book. But Saturday has a typical 0-1 at home written all over it They NEED to turn up Saturday away wins at places like Maidenhead are all well and good but we only had what 2-300 of our own fans see it. Saturday will 12000 from a PR perspective its really important we win Saturday and win well put a performance in. Some good home wins will get the fans believing that promotion is a real possibility. I'd go s far to say Saturday is the biggest game of the season for this reason.
  21. Think we were linked with Gattuso at the time Lee Johnson left. Joe had lined up David Batty but having been stung by releasing Dennis Irwin Leeds decided to keep him.
  22. I'd like to throw in they won't sack David Unsworth something people were adamant about even if we were sat above the relegation zone David Unsworth was going to be the first manager in the history of football to be unsackable.
  23. Norwood gets in the positions to miss them more regularly than Fondop does that's why his goalscoring record across his career is far better. Considering the midfield and our ability to control games and create chance has been a weakness this season it remarkable that we have a striker who has scored as many as Norwood has. That said if he was fully fit for tomorrow night I'd put him on the bench and let Garner and Fondop start as they've earned it based on Saturday.
