  1. Like others, I'm not sure we should look backwards but Dowie certainly had our players fit and able to run for 95 minutes. In terms of past managers, I'm surprised Wadsworth's not been mentioned more often. I don't think he's the right man but with Murray coming in, it wouldn't be unfeasible for them to link up.
  2. I thought it was 4600 too but maybe the 4200 refers to a block of seats left empty between home and away support?
  3. Because he's a :censored:. I wouldn't want him associated with our club. I'll never forgive him for encouraging his players to foul ours and then congratulating them for doing so. Horrible, horrible man.
  4. The players should certainly shoulder some of the blame. Almost all of the discussion when we've played badly has been (quite rightly) around PD's tactics but we really do have decent enough players to be higher up the table. It certainly feels a bit strange him leaving but I think it was inevitable after the backroom staff were sacked. I also think that, given the recent league run, its absolutely right that we've parted ways. But I certainly don't feel the same way about PD that I did about our last manager. I guess it feels similar to Shez although the circumstances are different. Everyone really wanted PD to succeed and that bought him more time than it probably should have done. So Paul, thanks for 3 of the best days I've ever experienced in football (Sheff U away last season, Forest and Liverpool) as well as signing possibly the best prospect we've had since we've been in L1 (Baxter). Your heart's in the right place and I'm sorry it didn't work out.
  5. Absolutely - in any other job, you could reasonably be sacked for such poor performance and you wouldn't get a pay-off.
  6. I've wondered about this "rolling contract". Its effectively a permanent contract with a 12 month notice period. But maybe SC gave PD his notice ages ago, meaning we'd have less than a full year's salary to fork out.
  7. Whilst I welcome MPs views and suggestions on the subject, the idea of a government having direct control in football is, to me at least, a bit silly. Do people really believe they should have the power to levy a "footballers' tax"? Why should a footballer earning £100k per week be taxed differently to someone earning £100k per week in a different field? There's certainly an argument for taxing EVERYONE who earns that amount at a higher rate, but singling out one group is grossly unfair and sets a very dangerous precedent. If you don't like the amount of money they're paid, don't subscribe to Sky Sports, and support your local team instead! Everybody likes to moan about it, but everybody keeps handing the money over! A strong, objective and respect-worthy FA would be nice though.
  8. I'd be happy with them having the large section of the RRE but can someone explain whey we can't just give them the small section? If it holds 1600, that's 15% so what's the problem? GMP probably think that fewer away fans will result in more trouble
  9. Think we should go for the same players and system as vs Liverpool as much as possible i.e. 4-3-1-2 with the new strikers. PD shouldn't be afraid to change it if its not working though, we've got some options from the bench now! Winchester to start for me.
  10. Do they really think that if we beat Everton, the other two stands won't still invade the pitch?! The pitch invasion is totally irrelevant to the allocation decision but GMP using it as an excuse. Wankers.
  11. Voted for same as Liverpool although I'd be fine with them getting less but can see how could lead to more away fans sneaking in the home sections.
  12. Do the police have any statutory powers here? Of course they can advise but can they legally force us to take a particular course of action?
  13. This is a joke. How on earth was the pitch invasion caused by the smaller number of away fans in the ground or the home fans in the small section of the RRE? Two completely unrelated situations which GMP have jumped on to make their life easier. Or maybe Everton are pushing this to get a bigger allocation? Give them the small section and be done with it. If we need to give them 15%, 1600 (is that what the small section holds?) is about right. Once we've taken out a block of seats to further segregate the fans, it'll be more than 15% anyway. 1600/15*100 = 10666.
  14. Not sure how much to trust those Watford fans: "He is a proper, English centre forward." I'd be shocked (and disappointed) if we're paying £6k per week for him. I could imagine that's his Championship wage, of which we're paying a %.
  15. In that case, the only reason he would agree to end his contract early would be if he had another move lined up (which could be to us).
  16. I'd imagine he got a decent severance package to compensate him for the remaining months on his contract. Up to £30k severance is tax free so there's scope for negotiation between club and player to come up with something mutually beneficial in these situations. So, in theory, he could afford to stay with us on reduced terms, at least until the end of the season.
  17. Interesting one. Hopefully its just a formality - Croft gets a nice tax-free severance, Derby get him off their books and he stays with us at the same cost as before.
  18. Seems decent but I'm not sure he's an eyebrow raiser. Whilst I'm hopeful the new signings can all be a success, I hope we've not spunked too much of the cup money on them.
  19. We were pleased to exact revenge on Liverpool on their behalf.
  20. I must admit I was impressed with Downing's corner taking technique. No run up, just one step and... whip.
  21. I'd have gone, not been before and its not too far. Unfortunately got a family member's birthday to go to instead.
  22. Un-evolved pond-scum, I'm ashamed they're associated with our club. I was pleasantly surprised to see a decent sized group of young Asian blokes at the game. Call me cynical but its a huge untapped market which could not only increase our fanbase but do wonders in helping rid OAFC of hypocritical idiots like the one mentioned above.
