  1. CI is the kind of player Premier League defenders should have no problem with - experienced journey man making his way down the leagues. But I think (and the MK Dons game backs this up) that he will give L1 defenders a lot of problems. It does feel harsh to leave Smith on the bench after his last two performances but what a super-sub to have! Just heard him interviewed by Chappers on 5 Live too, he'd make a decent spokesman for the club.
  2. Exactly how I feel. The way the club is at the moment, we need someone who "get's it", wants to get their hands dirty and ultimately become OAFC through and through. They'd have to take the job on the basis that we're skint and that any surplus funds are for the stand, playing budget or youth team set up. PD seemed to embrace this, amongst his failings it was one of his strengths. A potential manager who wants to hold us to ransom over wages can piss off, whoever he is.
  3. Am I crazy but I'm thinking of finishing work early tomorrow and getting the 1459h from Preston to Euston then on to Stevenage from Kings Cross? Can I have an advance Everton ticket?
  4. Some seriously sour grapes on there. Makes for great reading! My favourite post was from an Arsenal fan:
  5. Thought I'd bump this one. Replays vs Everton... United in the semi at Wembley?
  6. I don't think it'll sell out. It didn't in 2008 and that was a Saturday (although only 3rd round). Being prudent I'm expecting 30,000 at an average of £25 per head. In total that's £750,000. But don't forget, 1/6 of that goes to HMRC as VAT leaving net ticket sales of £625,000. Take off police and stewarding costs (I have no idea what these would be) but I imagine it would leave us with a 40-45% cut of around £200,000. Not quite the millions Robbie Savage suggested our cup run was worth on 606 last night. The TV money is about half that of the 5th round proper so that would be another £100,000 or so. Don't get me wrong, its huge money for us. How much is Smithy worth now?!
  7. My sister, life-long Latic, couldn't come to the game as had to look after her young kids. She was glued to the TV and scared my 5 year old nephew with her reaction to Smith's equaliser! I don't think he'll ever have seen her make such a racket and apparently ran out of the lounge to hide! We're hoping to get him down to BP in a couple of years so he can witness the magic first hand.
  8. The acoustics of the stand are so much better. Is it time for the Chaddy vs RRE debate again, in terms of relocating away fans to the Chaddy?
  9. I think its the Wednesday and will be on TV. TV money is around half what it is for the 5th round proper so should be another £100k plus the gate money. Hope we can take a few thousand. With it being a week night it might be harder for folks to make it. The atmosphere in 2008 was incredible.
  10. IF we get through the replay I want another home tie. The 5th round prize money would offset not getting a big away tie and I think playing Liverpool and Everton at home has been a huge advantage (with a great atmosphere).
  11. Agreed, he actually reminds me of a left-sided Kieran Lee.
  12. Yea its not the cost. Barnard had to have his shirt taken in by the sewing lady!
  13. Its the first time I can remember us being effective on the counter but you knew when he set off that something was coming. Great run from Obita too.
  14. Crofty was superb vs Liverpool too and has been (generally) one of our better performers throughout the season. Unbelievable display yesterday, I was stunned when he out-paced Baines at one point! And having watched the highlights, I think he knew exactly what he was doing when he picked out Obita for the first.
  15. I don't really like him but agree with what Townsend said on the ITV highlights show. Defenders should stop worrying about protecting the keeper and blocking attackers and worry about getting to the ball themselves. Barnard was guilty of it for Everton's second and the entire Everton defence was guilty of it for our second. Attack the bloody ball and the opposition will have much less chance of sticking it in! What a leap from Smithy - as graceful as a salmon, as lethal as a shark.
  16. Have an upboat from me Prozac - absolutely spot on. Fans of Premier League clubs will never experience anything like our cup run this season. Its the months of abject :censored:e and the financial gulf between the sides which makes it all the more sweet. It shows that with a bit of heart and desire, we can match the PL players who might earn 100x more than our boys. Its also bloody frustrating when I think what this side could do to League 1 if they performed consistently well!
  17. Brown was immense. He defended well throughout but in the early stages I thought he looked a little nervous and keen to get rid of the ball quickly. He grew more into the game as it went on and became an attacking threat too, linking up well with Crofty (who was also superb). I really rated Wabara and was worried pre-game about Brown being targeted but on yesterday's showing, we'll be ok. Baines and Pienaar were kept quiet (barring one mazy Pienaar run and one-two through the middle). And a small mention on Pienaar - what a horrible little man. Constant complaining and bemoaning the ref as well as a dive.
  18. I hope it doesn't affect their performance - those boots look uncomfortable!
  19. I have a man-crush on Jose Baxter. I hope he scores a 94th minute free kick to clinch victory for us tomorrow.
  20. Whoever's in charge on Saturday, I just hope they play Obita so he can panettone Hibbert all game.
  21. Oh bugger, didn't realise he was that old. Oh well, he's worth a new deal for me but wouldn't blame him for moving on (and expect him to do so).
  22. I absolutely agree. I just cited those two as examples of recent better prospects. True, if the youngsters simply aren't good enough then there's not much PD could have done about it. Although we've recently committed to continuing the youth programme, the fact that there was even a possibility of it being axed must have wound TP up a bit.
  23. Cisak - offer him a new deal and take the compo when he leaves Furman - offer him a new deal and hope its enough to keep him Croft - offer him a new deal but he'll have to take a big cut to what he was on at Derby Simmo - undecided. He seems like a decent character to have around and if we can convince him that every game is an FA Cup game we'll have a very useful player on our hands, but he's been very poor in the league Murray - undecided, need more time to assess his influence M'Voto - offer him a new deal but don't break the bank (I think he's a relatively high earner here) Smith - offer him another season on the same terms. He's improved with game time won't be on big money We need to convince Baxter to stay! I know he's under contract but who knows whether he'll see it out? He's the kind of player we can build a team around, and they don't come along very often. Him staying on could also convince the likes of Furman to stay and attract better new signings who.
