  1. The third beneficiary of money raised by Prediction League contributors, is Dr Kerhsaw's Hospice. Dr Kershaw’s Hospice was opened in 1989 - coinciding with the beginning of Latics' Pinch Me season - following the conversion and development of a 1930s cottage hospital originally built with a legacy from Dr John Kershaw, a local GP. The Hospice has undergone a number of building programmes, which has included expansion and refurbishment that offers high quality patient accommodation. Dr Kershaw's provides specialist palliative care for adults with non-curable, life-limiting illnesses in a peaceful and homely environment. Palliative care is an area of healthcare that focuses on relieving and preventing the suffering of patients. Palliative care is appropriate for patients at all stages of illness, including those undergoing treatment for symptom control or rehabilitation as well as patients who are nearing the end of life. Dr Kershaw’s Hospice is an independent hospice and a registered charity (Charity No. 1105924). It is partially funded by the Oldham Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG), circa £800,000 per year, however, the major part of the annual budget of £2.8m is supported by fundraising activities, donations, legacies, income from the Hospice shops and revenue from the Hospice lottery. The Hospice serves a population of some 220,000 people drawn from Oldham and its surrounding districts and has a close working relationships with Oldham CCG; Pennine Care NHS Trust and Pennine Acute NHS Trust. All of us at some stage will be affected, either directly or indirectly, with illnesses that require the expertise of people/places such as Dr Kershaw's, and what better way than to contribute a little something to a organisation that serves the local community. In 2017-18, OWTB Prediction League raised £125 for Dr Kershaw's. I hope you agree that there really is no reason not to join Prediction League, it provides a little light relief from the burden of watching our beloved club - although it would be nice to think we'll be Predicting more victories this coming season. You could be in with a shout of winning a couple of bob and then there are the great causes that benefit too. All you have to do for now is pay the £10 entrance fee via PayPal to stevie_j@owtb.co.uk (Please note the underscore) with your OWTB username in the comments box. Then, keep popping into this thread over the next 3 weeks, when I'll move onto tactics, mind games and finally - after last year's success - we'll take a look at some Predictors in focus.
  2. Was it any of these; all names circulating on social media? Giles Coke Jonathan Benteke Yohan Mollo - seems unlikely!? Karleigh Osborne Andy Taylor Ishmael Miller Franck Moussa Ben Pukiss
  3. Frankie sounds quite stern on his iFollow interview.... I recall some - last time he applied and didn’t get the job - saying they thought he would be a bit of a soft touch. I don’t know based on what, possibly his droll Brummy accent. I also recall Nick Henry saying something on Twitter about him being tough. Might do us some good.
  4. He kept Ripley out of their team though didn’t he? One assumes you’d have Ripley back? Edit: note to self, read all posts before posting. Beaten to do it by Dave_Og
  5. Good man Dave. It would be great to see some more frequent and respected members of the OWTB community do the same over the next couple of weeks... which may help the beneficiaries list to grow.....?!?
  6. The second beneficiary of money raised by Prediction League contributors, is Playershare. Playershare is an initiative created by Trust Oldham, allowing us fans to be able to contribute to a fund that can directly affect the playing budget / recruitment of players for our incumbent manager. Without wishing to place words in the mouth of its creator(s) and administrators, it keeps money away from persons you might trust less to spend it directly on the team. The scheme has been used by a number of manager over the years and indeed is being used presently to aide in the recruitment of player(s) for Frankie Bunn. You can contribute in a number of ways; 1. By standing Order Beneficiary Name: Trust Oldham PlayerShare Save-Scheme Sort Code: 16-27-11 (RBS Oldham Branch) Account Number: 10176108 2. Paypal playershare@laticsplayershare.co.uk 3. One-Off Payments made by Cheque. 4. By signing up to Prediction League In 2017-18, Prediction league raised £125 for Playershare. C'mon, all you have to do for now is pay the £10 entrance fee via PayPal to stevie_j@owtb.co.uk (Please note the underscore) with your OWTB username in the comments box and your beloved club will raise a little bit of money. What's not to like? Keep popping into this thread over the coming weeks while I continue to explain more.
  7. If that’s the calibre of player MK are aiming for, there’s nothing to be afraid of.
  8. Does that say a 4-year deal? Or has my efforts at internet translating let me down? EDIT: Think it might be referring to the 4th Tier! So I assume a 1 year deal?
  9. This week, we'll have a look at the beneficiaries. Once every Predictor pays up their £10 entrance fee, there is a pot from which to divvy up. Prediction League's inaugural season was 2011-12, the number of active participants was 23. Over the years, the number has steadily grown, which is testament to it's administration, run by @Stevie_J & @Bristolatic and the format of divisions, promotion/relegation, play offs and the OWTB Cup [details on that to come] meaning that every Predictor is in with a shout of achieving something right up until the end, assuming you're not too forgetful & miss too many matches. See post above if you feel this could be you. 2011/12 23 2012/13 17 2013/14 20 2014/15 29 2015/16 32 2016/17 42 2017/18 50 In the 2017-18 season, Prediction League was contested by a record 50 participants, meaning there was a £500 pot, less Paypal fees, from which to share among the beneficiaries. Firstly there is the Prize Fund. Divisional winners, runners up and OWTB Cup winner picked up the following in 2017/18; Premier League Champion - @Hometownclub - £62.50 Premier League Runner-up - @Ex_pat - £31.25 Championship Winner - @singe - £62.50 Championship Runner-up - @milnrow latics - £31.25 Cup Winner - @oafcmetty - £62.50 Reckon you've go the knack for Predicting Latics' fortunes? Fancy winning a few quid? Prediction League is for you! All you have to do for now is pay the £10 entrance fee via PayPal to stevie_j@owtb.co.uk (Please note the underscore) with your OWTB username in the comments box and your name will appear in the following Participants thread; Then, keep popping into this thread over the coming weeks while I continue to explain more.
  10. *****NEW FEATURE KLAXON ALERT***** So, it might be apparent to those paying attention that some Predictors forget to post a Prediction from time to time. The odd game here and there isn't the end of the world, for instance @singe who won the Championship with the 2nd highest points total in 2017/18 Prediction League, failed to post a Prediction on 5 occasions, meaning his 153 points were amassed over only 41 games. @astottie in the Premier League failed to post a Prediction twice. However, for those of us who are even more forgetful, from 2017/18 I'm aiming this post at @ajw65, @dave_ragg1984, @LaticsChris, @Latics_Fanatic, @LightDN123, @LT_SMASH, @MAC0AFC, @NewBlue, @RobOAFC, @Scapegoat, @warwickshire latics, & @youngen and from previous seasons @Andy-latic, @BJBlue, @Laticsbiffo, @JoshOWTB, @Kusunga_Is_God & @Ryan, this coming season we will introduce an email/text message reminder feature, should you wish to receive one. An email to text message Gateway Domain allows an email to be turned into a text message via an address supplied by your mobile phone network provider. The following Gateway Domains are available for those who's network provider is listed below; Network provider - Gateway domain - Set up advice 3 - +44##########@three.co.uk EE - +44##########@mms.ee.co.uk BT - +44##########@btinternet.co.uk O2 - +44##########@mmail.co.uk - Text "ON" to 212 Vodafone - +44##########@vodafone.net Virgin - +44##########@vxtras.com My intention is to supply an email/text message reminder service 1 hour before KO, which coincides with the team sheet being announced, allowing or every signed up Predictor - wishing to receive said service - a timely prompt to post their Prediction with maximum info to hand. In reality - as I'm doing this from my own personal time - I may not always be able to do it exactly 1 hour before KO, so I will commit to doing it for every game sometime prior, on occasions the day before. If you think this feature will be helpful to you, I will require you to send me a PM with your OWTB username, your mobile phone number and your Gateway Domain address. For those of you who's network provider does not offer a Gateway Domain service [eg Sky], you will only be able to receive an email, therefore simply PM me your email address if you wish to receive an email reminder. T&C's You will need to contact your network provider to confirm your Gateway Domain is set up [subject to one being available] and subsequently what the Gateway Domain address is. You should check if costs are incurred with your network provider (and that you are happy to pay them) before you agree to setting up and/or supplying me with your details. FYI, when I tested it, I wasn't charged anything. By agreeing to supply your mobile phone number and/or email address you are providing permission for me to supply this service to you. You can stop the service by PM'ing at any time requesting to be removed.
  11. A Predictor of your experience would be expected to challenge at the top end of the Championship next season Pete. However, a word of warning..... 107 points wouldn't have been good enough to keep you in the Championship either, such was the quality on show. Also, all 3 Predictors @Harry Bosch, @Handsy & @warwickshire latics relegated from the Premier League in 2016/17, suffered back to back relegations last season.
  12. So, now we've covered how to Predict and how points are scored, one hopes it's clear how the tables are formed? Below are the final 2017/18 League tables, which consisted of a Premier League and a Championship. @Hometownclub was the victorious Premier League champion. He correctly Predicted the outcome of 22 games during the season, more than anyone else. @Stevie_J was the king of HT. 16 correct Predictions. To accompany his Championship title, @singe impressively predicted the exact score on 8 occasions but was beaten to exact Latics goals by @DavidCollinge who got it right 20 times. @jorvik_latic correctly Predicted First Latics scorer in 11 games - more than anyone else, which saved his sorry @rse from relegation! The King or Queens of Attendance, were @singe and @milnrow latics who amassed 51 points apiece, helping both of them to be promoted to the Premier League automatically. @milnrow latics was also the King or Queen of darkness, correctly Predicting exact opposition goals 16 times, more than anyone else. For the forthcoming 2018/19 season - subject to Predictors numbers - will see 3 leagues and the introduction of League One, with the ultimate objective being 4 leagues from 2019/20; Fancy it? All you've got to do is; Pay the £10 entrance fee via PayPal to stevie_j@owtb.co.uk (Please note the underscore) with your OWTB username in the comments box and your name will appear in the following Participants thread; Keep popping back into this thread as I explain more about how it works and what's new.
  13. Under the subject of ‘that’.... at 10:45pm tonight on BBC1 there is a programme commemorating Barry’s Davies’ 50 years of commentating.... I wonder if the original ‘Super Sunday’, the first time 2 FA Cup Semi Finals we’re screened live on TV, back to back, will get a mention? ”Marshall, what an unbelieve day this is” “Palmer far side, it’s all square again. This is the stuff of schoolboy comics”
  14. So, hopefully now you've got a good idea of what the Prediction entails. You might be wanting to know 'How it works' from there....? Points are scored accordingly; Correct result (i.e. W,L or D) +2ptsCorrect no. of goals for Latics +1pt;Correct no. of goals for opposition +1pt;Correct full-time score +2pts;Correct half-time score +2pts;First scorer +3pts;Within 100 of attendance +3pts;Within 10 of attendance +5pts;Exact attendance +20pts; The maximum number of points you could therefore score on a individual game would be 31. Unsurprisingly, short of foul play @24hoursfromtulsehill this has never happened. In the season just complete, the top score/Prediction for any game was made by @singe who amassed 26 for this effort against Rotherham (a) when the correct Prediction would've [sadly] been; Rotherham 5 Latics 1 [HT 1-1] First Latics Scorer: Craig Davies Attendance: 8,250 Another notable effort was from @aidan_latics for his 14 pointer against Bury (h) when the correct Prediction would've been; Latics 2 Bury 1 [HT 1-0] First Latics Scorer: Eoin Doyle Attendance: 5,183 Reckon you could do better? All you've got to do is; Pay the £10 entrance fee via PayPal to stevie_j@owtb.co.uk (Please note the underscore) with your OWTB username in the comments box and your name will appear in the following Participants thread; Keep popping back into this thread as I explain more about how it works and what's new.
  15. That's why I said 'normal'...... the question still stands....?!?! I fancy the Corney/Corney's cronies/Sheridan/Wellens team would beat Lemsagam's comfortably.
  16. Signings made by 'normal' means - Corney/Corney's cronies/incumbent manager / UK base agents (?) - since the start of last season; Davies. Gardner. Hunt. Ruddy. Wilson [Ben]. McEleney. Duffus. Doyle. Bryan. Byrne. Benyu. Kyeremeh. Baxter. Signings made by Lemsagam since the start of last season; Placide. Queensy. Ambrose. Zeus. Maouche. Moimbe. Omrani. Nazon. Gevaro. Benteke. Branger. Who'd win in 11 v 11 - if the 'normal' means team loaned a player to Lemsagam's?
  17. Says it was a bad decision and not being paid had an affect.... https://www.dundalkdemocrat.ie/news/sport/321630/mceleney-admits-oldham-move-a-bad-decision-and-is-determined-to-make-up-for-lost-time-at-dundalk-fc.html
  18. He could get me onside by paying wages on time.....
  19. In the final installment of correct Predictions from yesteryear, against opposition we will face again this coming season, we take a look at Notts County. Our record against one of the oldest League clubs is evens; P 92 W 35 D 21 L 36 We've played them in every Tier of the Football League, the last time in Tier 4 was in 1969. However this Prediction example below is from a exciting game in Tier 1, with some excellent goals being scored by both teams; 14th March 1992, Boundary Park Latics 4 Notts County 3 [HT 3-1] First Latics Scorer: Andy Ritchie Attendance: 12,125 Interested in taking part? All you've got to do is; Pay the £10 entrance fee via PayPal to stevie_j@owtb.co.uk (Please note the underscore) with your OWTB username in the comments box and your name will appear in the following Participants thread; Next week we'll take a look at; How it works and What's new.
