  1. Indeedy, over 7 years, neither itch has set in yet. Best thing I ever did.
  2. I disagree, that's like saying marriage is about fun and agreement. When done well football provides entertainment but there is an awful lot of waiting around for it, earning and then enjoying it even more when that tiny morsel of entertainment and joy comes your way. Same as marriage, you go into it with the best of intentions but there is an awful lot of washing up, tidying away, discussing things like colours, soft furnishings, shoes and what Helen did or did not say or do at work that day. Spending time with mothers or friends you try and keep off the topic of local house prices..etc.. But there are good points that make it worthwhile. Like football you can get a sense of belonging, community and sheer unbridled joy from marriage.
  3. I'd say that it is fair enough if true. Bit of 'bants' - "No you can't have a freebie to watch your old team a few days before you bring your current team here."
  4. Two nil to the Oldaham!!! North stand roof? Hmmm, I'm on the back row and was getting wet, but that was one of the bad nights weather wise. It'll keep the rain off a fair bit of the time. Lovely goal from Poleon, made sitting in the cold and the rain worthwhile when a player does something like that.
  5. One of the most feared bowlers of recent times, true absolute knee knocking pace. Also got into batsmen's heads and try as I might I couldn't dislike him. But that could be due to McGrath turning out to be such a nice bloke and I hated him when he played. Some of Johnson's bowling spells against us were fearsome, for all the stuff above about b. Broad - b. Johnson was how to do it consistently. The game will miss him, shame he lost so many innings to injury.
  6. Cards on the table time. Who's coming? Looks like big coat weather to me. And gloves and hat. Should be a good test of the new stand roof's rain defending qualities. I'm hoping for a Latics win by two goals to get some confidence into the squad ahead of what could be a barrel of laughs on Saturday. I don't bear LJ any ill will, life is too short (like he is) but it would be funny for us to make their chairman pull the trigger and sack him on Sheepfoot lane. But before that, tonight, the FA Cup, marvellous, isn't it? Football.....
  7. So if I email Gordon I can get him to ask Dunn what is the largest animal he thinks he could throw over a crossbar?
  8. I endorse this opinion and would like to subscribe to your newsletter.
  9. The worst time for me was the treatment of Richard Butcher at Barnsley, that was when I knew the game and club had changed for the worst. Pretty much everything has been toxic since then. Every defeat has seen more woe than the end of the world, player sales have resulted in mass suicides, managers have been given little or no chance for some and we've seen more building experts than the whole of Grand Designs and Homes under the hammer put together. Latics is something I do for fun, it hasn't been fun for a while. The stuff on the pitch is no better or worse than it has been for years, it is the reaction to every little thing that is pissing me off. Young players making the step up from the youth setup being barracked for not being Messi, Managers being derided for not signing Ronaldo and everything at board level seen as a way of defrauding the pockets of the fans. These days I turn up, have a laugh, bit of a sing and hopefully cheer some goals, by the time I'm back on Broadway its all over and I get on with my Saturday. Dunn is trying with the squad he didn't assemble and learning as he goes, he was never going to be a ready made manager with firmly established and rehearsed routines, he needs backing and time but I don't think he'll get them.
  10. Out of interest, how many loan players do other teams have? How many is enough? Too many?
  11. Looks like I'm going to be listening to The Stone Roses again shortly!
  12. I did, sat in my new seat for the first time. Had a laugh with the people I go with and enjoyed my afternoon out thank you very much.
  13. LOUD NOISES! Burton look a decent side, had one chance after we lost the ball cheaply and finished it well. We huffed and puffed a bit, nearly equalised but for a great save from their keeper. Lost our way a bit in the second half but it certainly wasn't as bad as some want to make out.
  14. In these times of internet shopping it doesn't matter where your shop is. If the product is one that people want then they will travel for it.
