  1. I think you missed out Ronnie Moore! I have kept going thinking that maybe this week things will change. I started watching them when I was nine and am now 65 which goes to show that I am a slow learner!
  2. Well we're never going to agree on this are we. It always amazes me how so many people watch the same match and have completely different opinions. See you at Boundary Park on Saturday for, hopefully, three points.
  3. Course you are entitled to say what you want about Latics, but I do have to disagree with you about what you call 'the same old :censored:e (if not worse) with a prettier front'. The standard of football that Latics have played in most games, home and away, has been far superior to anything under Dickov.
  4. No, only Saturday games and if you stick your thumb out as my Virgin train thunders north, I'll be happy to pull the communication cord and stop the train for you. If you book well in advance (3 months) the price really comes down.
  5. I think LJ is doing his best. He is new to management and I'm sure at the end of the season he will look back to the mistakes that he's made. The same is true for Corney. But I have enjoyed the football we've played this season. I travel up from Surrey to watch Latics and when Dickov was manager what a miserable journey that was - poor results, dreadful football. I think LJ will get it right and we are not far away. Hopefully it will begin this Saturday.
  6. Nipa on trial at Oldham Posted on January 21st, 2014 by Breaking News The success and style of the football being played by Blyth Spartans has not gone unnoticed. Since taking full control of the team towards the end of last season and strengthening the back room staff manager Tom Wade has put together an excellent blend of maturity and youth which has really developed in the first half of the season. The coaching has brought the best out of both young and established players. The performance of certain individuals has been outstanding and after playing a number of games in the Manchester area the Club has been contacted by several professional Lancashire teams expressing an interest in some of our players. Dan Maguire has outperformed in recent weeks and Oldham Athletic has asked if he can attend their Club this week for trials. The Club has always had a policy of never putting barriers in the way of players moving to a higher level of football and arrangements are in place for the trial. Maguire is on a contract with Blyth Spartans which includes an option for next season and he figures highly in the Clubs plans to retain the bulk of the developing squad for next season. The Club will be discussing Maguire’s long term career ambitions with him. As other specific details arise further announcements will be made.
  7. McGuire from Blythe Spartans - he's supposed to have been training with us.
  8. A club Latics size can't afford to carry players. Wouldn't surprise me if he starts to score goals when he moves. Now which one of the three possibes will Latics get?
  9. I think one thing that would improve the team is to play at a higher tempo. This may help us with the problem of overpassing and allowing the opposition to get into position.
  10. Dagnall was drawn to Orient because they're doing well. Which players would choose to join a club fighting to avoid relegation? So it's not just about money. Had Rooney, for instance, delivered we would have been in a position to attract Dagnall.
  11. He looks pretty good on the videos but how good would Rooney look playing for Halifax? To me the problem with Latics players is between the ears. You know the old thing about playing the match not the occasion? Well I think our lads have to get back to just playing the match and not the expectations and previous disappointments. This is where LJ and Murray have to earn their money. If the players can do it in training they can do it in a match. We know that Philly and Mac can score goals, now it's time to do it when it matters starting on Saturday against the Posh. Come on you blues!
  12. It makes you wonder where we'd be in the league if we had a striker who scores goals.
  13. If they can replace him with someone better then ok. He doesn't have a strikers instincts in my opinion.
  14. Hoped we would be higher up the league and was pleased with the squad he assembled. Most have come off some haven't. Same with every club but we have to start scoring goals and LJ has got to get our strikers to do that - not easy!
  15. Those of us who have seen most of the games this season know that we have outplayed virtually every team we have faced and our failure to score more than one goal has really cost us. In fact on many occasions our failure to score one goal has cost us dear. I think we will pull out of this but we do need a striker.
  16. Don't know what was said on Twitter but I am 100 per cent behind LJ. However, Mr Rooney is not a main striker. He has ability but obviously doesn't know how to translate that into a useful end product. New striker required who can score goals - mind you, everyone wants one of those!
  17. Whatever Rooney is, he's not a centre forward.
  18. On Sky they showed Rooney's earlier miss from inside the six yard box. Two defenders on the line and a nice gap to aim at - his shot went sideways! He's not good enough. He put his pen the same side as the one against Mansfield.
  19. We played too deep in the first half and invited them to attack. Second half better when we played further up the pitch. Not one of JCH's best games although I thought he improved in the second half. If LJ trusted Rooney, he would have brought him on sooner. Impressed with Harkins - and we kept a clean sheet. Do think someone needs to do some work with our back five.
  20. Was there from 2.00pm, didn't hear anything like this.
  21. Was surprised at the subs but I thought we kicked on from there. Dayton looked well short of match fitness.
