  1. Sterling didn't het past him in the first half - thought he did well. If you make up your mind about a player in advance you'll never see his good points.
  2. JCH to score the winner in stoppage time! Wouldn't we love it?
  3. All this stuff about whether Baxter celebrated his goal. I will never understand why a player is expected to show no emotion when scoring against a former club. We'll be expecting former players to score own goals next just to show the old supporters some respect. Barmy - like kicking the ball out of play when another player falls over (end of rant - probably too much sherry trifle).
  4. I think those who say that Rooney isn't getting may chances make a valid point, however simply compare his contribution to JCH or Philliskirk. It might also help him if he watched someone like Suarez. Putting to one side how talented the Liverpool striker is, his work ethic, determination to get in the game and show himself when a team mate has the ball - all these things Rooney could do - as well as attacking the near post. For most of the games he's played, he's been anonymous and when you are one of the highest paid players that's not good enough.
  5. Alan McNeil was a midfielder for Latics under Frizzell. Although talented he was very lazy. He specialised in the pointing department. Pointing to his colleagues to mark the opposition whilst he wandered around doing his own sweet thing. Of course this always drew a few barbed comments from the Latics supporters. On one occasion it must have been a bit too much because this little man in front of me turned round and shouted with some feeling, "Leave him alone, he's my son in law!' Naturally the Latics supporters apologised and proceeded to offer encouragement for the rest of the match - well maybe in his dreams!!!
  6. Me not pleased. Bought return train ticket from London. Now trying to think of things to do in Manchester. Football museum and one other thing. Any ideas?
  7. Jimmy Frizzell! He married my cousins daughter. I remember my Uncle Willy bringing Jimmy to our house. Nice man.
  8. When I first started to follow Latics in 1958 I remember one day asking my dad if he thought that Latics would ever play in the first division or play at wembley. He looked at me kindly and shook his head. Sadly he passed away before Latics achieved both and I must admit as Latics were led out by Joe Royle at the League Cup Final I thought of him and tears welled up in my eyes with pride at my little team. The result was immaterial to me.
  9. Absolutely true it was so good it made me laugh. Have to agree. I think we all thought that he'd messed up and then what a calm finish.
  10. One memory has just flashed into my head. In the days when Ken Bates bankrolled a new team, blue and and tangerine kit and the Boundary Bulletin I went to watch Latics at Middlesborough with my dad and our keeper David Best was unbelievable. One of those days when you were able to relax in your seat in the full knowledge that he'd stop anything. We were sat in the main stand and the home supporters kept turning round asking who he was. A bit further back in the Bobby Johnstone era we played top of the league Mansfield at home and won 2-1 with two great goals - the first a volley on the turn from Bert Lister and the winner, a thirty yard piledriver into the top corner from Peter McCall. Bringing it up to date, the first match of the season and that wonderful length of the pitch match winner from Montano.
  11. Oh yes I forgot. My last one would be Robbie's goal against Liverpool at Anfield and his length of the field sprint to celebrate in front of the fans.
  12. Been supporting them since 1958 so.... Latics walking out at Wembley v Forest - never, ever expected us to get to Wembley Kuqi's volley from a million miles out against Rochdale Andy Ritchie's equaliser in added on time at Southampton in the cup All eleven goals when we beat Southport 11-0
  13. When we start to shoot and score goals it will be an easy problem to solve. Until then Philly and JH until Mac is fit.
  14. Good report. I didn't go to Bristol but one of my mates did and gave me a full report very similar to yours. Then watched the BBC version. They drive you mad don't they.
  15. If LJ is talking about acquiring someone on loan it should be striker - who can shoot.
  16. Great to hear we've outplayed yet another team without winning. Don't get me wrong, I am right behind LJ and the team but how many shots did their keeper have to save. And it's becoming a recurring theme - lots of good passing - but no shot at the end of it. Goals win games and if you don't shoot you don't score. We are not far from being a very good side it just needs more work on the final third of our play.
  17. It appears like he's not the easiest player to manage but I would start with him instead of Millar.
  18. Like all our supporters I am unhappy about losing games and very often losing games we should have won. However, LJ is new at the job. I'm sure he will look back at some of his decisions and realise he made mistakes. The players are new, partnerships need to be forged. Hopefully the new loan signings will inject some quality and confidence into the squad.
  19. Montano has been great up until his injuries then he's become inconsistent
  20. Not really sure what a person's sexuality has to to do with anything.
  21. You won't get online. Contractual problems and all that so you'll have to make do with a commentary on Latics world with Roy talking over the commentary so that you haven't a bloody clue what's going on. Regarding Saturday's Radio Manchester - surely one of the most amateurish radio shows. The previous poster called it Radio Bolton and he's absolutely right. Steve Taylor, Alan Gowling? All this complete with members of the public phoning in with their 'I think we should sack Freedman' or 'Give him more time' AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGH!!!
  22. It certainly is a tragedy what's happened to United since then, still taking on someone elses debt is a sort of charity so maybe there's a silver lining for them.
