  1. Good to hear the player had plenty left in the tank to remonstrate with the fan ........
  2. We did of course lose 13-4 on Boxing Day 1935 , after beating the same team ,currently 91st in the league , 4-0 on Christmas Day.
  3. I can recall 7-0 wins , can't recall a 0-7. 1-7 to Cardiff , but that doesn't matter , the club was at it's lowest ever ebb and struggling to exist. 2-7 to Sheff U in ZDF , odd result , in a cup that did not matter as we were flying high elsewhere.
  4. Very few defeats , into the playoffs ....... followed by 0-12 in 3 games , out of 2 cups in recent games. Lower league players really are something else ! The goalkeeping change looks like a disaster for starters. The home game with Crewe and the players performance will tell a lot I would think , as they have let the manager and fans down big time in the last 2 matches.
  5. 26 shots .....for goodness sake we were not playing Real Madrid. Enjoy your lucrative pay from you cushy job this weekend players ..and don't forget to log onto social media and use words such as gutted , sorry ,work hard to put it right ......
  6. Every time Everton played here back in the day , I seem to recollect Southall (probably the best keeper on the planet) practicing shooting rather than saves. The modern day obsession with coaching staff & Uefa badges is a ludicrous growth industry. How many times do these super qualified up managers wait until going a goal down , before magically sending a sub on straight after , it looks hapless every time I see it.
  7. There was bound to become a point in the season where the team had a run of poor results. There have been very few defeats until recently. Unfortunately the run coincides with 2 cup ties and we now have none to look forward to in 2015. A home game against 23rd in the division for a team in 6th place is as good as you will ever get to get back to winning ways. This was a miserable failure , the inconsistency of lower league players performance , attitude , etc never ceases to amaze me. It is hardly going to help get a bumper Bank Holiday crowd to throw in such a wretched performance now.
  8. The last winger we had to consistently deliver quality(not these guys who can run quick to the byline and cross into the stand) was David Eyres
  9. If I remember correctly , Ritchie & Rush teamed up like a dream in this game , tearing Swindon to pieces.
  10. Make them watch the X Factor or listen to the singles charts .....doubt they will have to be punished again .
  11. Bad injuries back in 89/90 , both first choice centre halves out .......had to go with a left back and some new player from the reserves who had an asthma problem as an emergency centre half partnership.
  12. The season Graham Sharp was in charge , the football was tedious beyond belief , and we just got worse and worse . When Mendonca made it 3-0 for Grimsby I was actually pleased , that is how desperate I was for the manager to leave. I felt it would be the goal that ended the management regime .....and it was . Still can't believe Morrissey didn't write a song about that season.
  13. And in this century Reece Wabara ........3-1 versus Liverpool , the millisecond of quiet as it looped in , before the fans went wild. Obita's goal against Everton , as we broke from our penalty area.
  14. All from 1990 Rick Holden's goal to lead in the Quarter Final against Villa .......Villa were top of the football league . I can still recall walking to the game thinking they had no chance , still astounds me to realistically believe a second tier team would whup the league leaders......but that is how good we were. Marshy's goal at Everton in the 5th round first replay. Roger's extra time goal in extra time of the Semi final .....the United fans could not believe we could get back level after almost 120 minutes .
  15. Unless my memory is playing tricks , I seem to recall losing to Orient in the cup in about Jan 1986 , we were at rock bottom without a win in 3 months .....but shortly after Paul Jones & Andy Linighan arrived and the good times were about to start.
  16. My mate brought his boss along, a Leeds fans. He was staggered as Frank banged in five goals before half time. Amazingly he then came to every home game with us for the rest of the season .
  17. I recall in the Tbilisi match both teams being on the pitch but.......having to wait for some local league cup final ??? to end. It went to penalties , about 20 of them if I remember correctly ......I'm sure the they did not mind.
  18. Ian Marshall's thunderbolt to beat Notts County. Roger Palmer's lobbed hat trick goal at Maine Road Mike Quinn lobbing Alex Williams in 2-2 draw with City ......the only game of football I have ever attended and was worried about getting out alive. Brian Kilcline's thunderbolt at Elland Road , giving the keeper(Jon Hallworth) no chance ...oops.
  19. This annual shipping out / shipping in of players who are often without clubs themselves is going to bite us one year. There is no chance of stability and progress whilst we have to do this due to having so little money. The sheer number of players the club has tried in the last decade is staggering . Bizarrely we appear to have finally found a goalscorer , the one thing that would have improved so many of our team versions. But with 8 goals conceded in 3 games and the old failing of not being to deliver a decent 90 minutes (if it is a lack of fitness , this is unforgivable for professional athletes) it is looking like the same old same old. But eh we have a new slogan .......
  20. We were allowed a delay until Monday for the first game against Barnsley. It rained non stop and the pitch was orange as the sand had not bedded down. And yes , I do recollect Ron Futcher's collision .....ow! Mind , I also recollect playing on the pitch and being wiped out running down the wing. My knees were a mass of blood. The scabbed over and burnt for 3 days .....before exploding in a torrent of puss. I never put myself in a situation where I would ever get tackled again like that.
  21. Jose has scored in some game or other .......looks like Sheff U have no problem fitting this superstar in their team.
  22. It may well describe the scenario accurately , but crikey as a rallying call to the faithful ...... We are a division 2 team in division 1 (division 4 in real money) .......we have not been one since 1971 and I for one will never accept this , fortunately league tables are not entirely based on income & fanbase. If we manage to recruit as superbly as Mr Dickov did with Jose Baxter or produce home grown talent like James Tarkowski .....tough , because agents will tell them how much somebody else will pay them and they will be off pronto. Basically you cannot have any quality players and it is only a matter of time before we are in division 2 .....no doubt claiming we are a conference team playing in division 2 .....and can we have your season ticket money please.
  23. What Next , Richard Jobson or Mark Arber .......
  24. My first game as a nipper was in 70/71 ,a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth who were promoted with us . They had the goal machine that was Ted McDougall playing for them .....for the whippersnappers on here he scored 9 (yes 9) goals in a 11-0 FA Cup win for Bournemouth , not surprisingly still the record.
