  2. Oh and the Everton first replay in 1990 ....the eruption when we won the toss for the second replay. We did play Sat , Tues , Thurs , Sat and Monday after the season finished in 1990......and players need 'resting' for sat , wed , say now.
  3. The Southampton League Cup QF Got through to near the front , where there was some room , but looking behind people were struggling to get off steps into the stand. The gate at the front was open, which was very good to see a year on from Hillsborough. 2-2 at Sheff Wed in promotion year An incredible game , 2-0 up at half time and they must have our woodwork 4 or 5 times. But the best was City 1 Oldham 4 , Roger's hat trick at Maine Road on an August Bank Holiday some time in the Jurassic era.
  4. A season ending fixture between the clubs with some significant stake.......can't see other teams not expressing an opinion.
  5. And the EFL has no issues with a prospective 2019/20 fixture of Oldham Athletic v Salford City .........................................
  6. Agreed , no point in being worked up in this era , of players and managers in and out of the door all the time. The club has been a calamity for over 2 decades , I am sad at the state my club is in , and have nothing but admiration for the fans who stay with the club. The moment i though sanity left lower league football was the opening game of Ronnie Moore's time here and I think we had 8 debuts ......it was like watching a set of strangers.
  7. Losing to Leyton Orient(two divisions below us) in the 3rd round of the cup in 86 was the worst for me. I think we had gone 3 months without a win . It was darkest before the dawn , the arrival of Andy Linighan and Paul Jones at the back was the start on the road to better times.
  8. I cannot imagine why a world renowed footballer would want to manage Oldham at this time , even it it was the team he supported. The club goes through managers at an alarming rate and for every step forward there follows another slip up. TV punditry must pay well and have none of the stress of managing Latics. The possibility of being sacked by the club you watched on the terraces should be enough deterrent. Better to try at another club if the desire is there to be a manager.
  9. Premier League player booked for diving for a pen .....VAR official bottles it to give a penalty to the 'big team' for almost as bad going to ground. Only 1 shot on target for Fulham , wild sunday league swings at the ball for every other shot , high and wide. MoM performance from the Captain. Blocked so many efforts in the first half . Surridge scared them to death from arriving on the pitch. And as for the noise made by the fans from start to finish .................this is something the Premier League has lost.
  10. I do hope the suggestion of how Mr Bunn was sacked is incorrect. No one should be dismissed in this gutless manner and the man is a legend at this club and always will be and deserved far more respect and courtesy .
  11. On Saturday leading 2-1 against Exeter , the team was in the play offs. Sacked on the following Thursday. This one dimensional strategy that football clubs have to fix performance by sacking umpteen managers is pathetic. Not for the first time at our club the players should be having a long hard look at themselves after the Carlisle performance and the resulting removal of their boss.
  12. Bottom of the table , only the Golden Goose that is Premier League money will matter to them. They will rest practically all their first team , we should go there with a realistic view of getting a result.
  13. A quality finisher was the glaring problem last night , the number of shots not hit solidly was dreadful. Gardner did not have a great game imo but he will be forgiven all for his magnificent run and quality delivery for the equalizer.
  14. Baxter was the best player on the park prior to his injury. If some of those tackles had gone on in the Premier League they would have been down to 8 players .
  15. More likely the negative story in the press this week ,for the umpteenth time is a big factor here. No club (or any business) ever progressed with this appalling treatment of staff
  16. Mark Ward , signed from non league , never missed a game in 2 years and was on the verge of England squad......a dynamo of a player.......his autobiog is a superb read. Paul Jones , Veteran defender signed when we are to an incredible low , 3 months without a win and lost at home 4th div Orient in the Cup . Others Aaron Callaghan Gary Williams
  17. Short memories, without Mr Corney and his associates there would be no club.
  18. Tonight's results as bad as could be. Only one option left, a bit left field perhaps.......but a first league win for a month would do nicely ...........trusting this shower to get a win ......gulp.
  19. My first game with my dad was against Bournemouth in 1970/71 , both teams were promoted and it was the last time we were in the fourth tier. Unlikely many other recent seasons this set of players have failed miserably to get clear of the drop zone. Three hours with no goals at home to two mid division teams is little short of pathetic. Tonight's game between Scunthorpe and Plymouth could have Charlton almost assured of the playoffs or needing a result. Who knows what attitude Northampton will take , we could lose and stay up or draw and go down. Rochdale have done very well to turn their games in hand into a position to stay up . I have a feeling we will survive , probably due to Charlton beating Rochdale ......lets hope so because our lot have forgotten how to win a game.
  20. Flew back from Girona airport last Tuesday. They won promotion by drawing 0-0 with Zaragoza , both teams needing a point for Girona to get promoted and Zaragoza to stay up ........to say the bookies were wary of this game is an understatement. Both teams recorded massive accurate passing stats ......and Girona had not one shot on goal.
  21. I am reading a book I got last year on holiday in Edinburgh on Hibernian's first Scottish Cup Final win in over 100 years. Mr Stokes features prominently in the book , highlighted by 2 goals and man of the match in their last minute 3-2 win over Rangers in the final, Possibly heading to 3rd tier of English footy less than a year later ..........
  22. I am reading a book on Hibernian winning the Scottish Cup for the first time in over 100 years. There are some photos in the middle , one of a Dundee Utd player missing a penalty against them ......... And to think there was a time when I thought a strike force of McCarthy & Barlow was rubbish .......would be like Greaves and Lineker compared to today's barn door missers.
  23. When he retires , he can still bask in the glory of turning Sterling inside out before Wabara scored .
