  1. And the joy of playing soccer in those days- the Roy of the rovers look of playing for fun- no agents, no diving no money just loves putting Latics one up
  2. And you did very well! An entertaining and informative read- I have not heard from The Bard for several years- he used to be a fairly regular guest of Mark Radcliffe's at R2, I now listen only to 6 music but have not heard him there yet.
  3. I think that is a realistic assessment. I think we need more options when things are not working. I would like to see Mellis on from the start as it seems he has a bit of creativity. Usually the problems with poor results after lots of possession are that we are not moving the ball quickly enough but that also requires the running into space of the front men. I think/hope we can respond at Scunny- and we will need to as they are sharp and on a good run.
  4. I think this is great news- He really seemed to take to the place and I think he will add a lot to our game- I had been hoping for this ever since he left- Welcome back Conor!
  5. I wish him well and hope he find something else but I think he is well qualified in coaching and a bright lad and should be able to stay in the game in some capacity. Thanks Paul you played a great role in keeping our long unbeaten run last year
  6. I remember McDonagh well and yes he always put in a real shift and stood out in every game i saw. Not sure about Philly but would like to see more of Mellis from the start and so i guess that would be ahead of DP
  7. I agree with all above and thought it was amazing what he did in 20 odd minutes that he was on the pitch- amazed to hear someone on one of the posts write somewhere that he(Mellis) had not touched the ball! I really hope he shows that kind of application every week and for me he should be a definite starter. A goal on his home debut like DJ before him would be very welcome!
  8. Thanks Royton A good find! I really enjoyed looking and reading through and felt the photos really capture the passion that Latic's fans have for the club.
  9. I thought Conor Brown had one of his best games yestereday and sould be in the running every time, but for me Mills is the left footed player and has the better delivery. I think it is a tough call at RB as i like both beach boy and Connor a lot. I think Elikobi adds a great deal to the team and we would notice a difference with him out- he is a massive presence on the pitch and with good delivery from free kicks/corners he is a likely scorer every other game and his presence in the area will create space for others- i love the guy!
  10. Thank you a very good review of all that occurred. 2. a bit unfair to criticise the defending for the Gills' two first half goals once the ball was lost, they were very well taken. somehow I do not think Latics would have been as clinical if gifted a similar position, especially as I thought that Poleon came close to messing up the finish for the equaliser! I agree with the above- they moved the ball very quickly whereas i always think we try to be over elaborate and in no time we are facing 7 defenders whereas in both their 1st two goals it was more like 4 v 4. I was also impressed with Dayton, who looked a lot more composed and determined than previous times i have seen him and also the new boy Jacob made a good impression and think will be a very useful addition. As has been posted continually we do need a quality front man- Gills won almost every header defensively and Poleon does not even bother to jump. At least Jabo would have given them a lot more to think about. On the other hand I don't know why we are playing more aerail stuff when this clearly not our strength. Anyway hope we can beat Notts County as we have some tough fixtures coming up but in L1 there do not seem to be any easy fixtures as there is so little between most sides. Despite the result it was a great day out, my next one i hope will be Orient but 5 fixtures in between so will be interesting to see what has happened by then. One team... Keep the faith, Come on Oldham etc
  11. that seems to be the secret of the best Ale pubs- hidden gems! are you going this year? you can text me on 07808-479693( Andy) if you are and we can say hello to each other
  12. I know a crowd of OASIS are going but any ideas how many are coming from HQ? I am planning going to the Will Adam on Saxon Street about 20 mins walk from the ground - some good review on Beer in the evening and score of 8/10 . The Bletchley pub before the MK game was rated at 2.7/10 which was very generous! So high hopes on both fronts this Saturday Best pub in Gillingham by a mile, fantastic range of ever changing real ales, cheap and cheerful food (the chilli can be lively), run by a proper Gills fan, away fans more than welcome... Old school jukebox, friendly inhabitants... Report this for removal Binman - 7 Dec 2013 01:13 Simply the best pub in Gillingham 20 consecutive entries in the GBG attest to this. Ever changing range of quality real ales, pool, darts (doubles board on occations) and a jukebox with a good range - not just "pop". visiting football fans welcomed warmly. if carlsberg did pubs (and real ale) this would be one of them. 13. Ha i remember taking my 4 yr old Simon to Chelsea v Latics Stamford Bridge Feb 1989 2- 2 . Ritchie put us ahead in 3rd minute then Graham Roberts scored 2 for the London Blues before ooh Roger palmer equalised in 86th minute. I had to recheck the facts but still remember the event. I am fairly sure that was the 1st but we made another trip to Millwall around the same time
  14. I agree we should certainly start with the same 11 - not only wrong message s but very deflating for AMS and Conor if they are passed over ,in the formers case it is bound to take a bit of time for him to find his feet and he has done pretty well in his brief cameo apearances. I think it will be areal test for Latics as we have not played many highly placed sides at home and have struggled to break down some very ordinary sides- Crawley, Gills, Crewe . Set against that Dale have an awesome away record with 7 wins an d an average of 2 plus goals per game away. A draw would not surprise me but if we can put away our chances and defend well, we could makea rea;l satement of intent
  15. A great win for sure and as always the support sounded terrific and deserves success. So pleased for Chubs who sounded inspired and Kelly as always but also great to see praise for Poleon and good to have Conor back in too. I have not felt so good since the Rochdale win but pray we don't have the same follow on as we had after that. At least we held a lead today - anyway I cant wait to make 1st trip to Gillingham next week and hope to meet up with the great OASIS bunch and many other of the great Latics following. OWTB
  16. I am definitely up for this- Keep me posted please on meeting times and venues hoping I might be with junior too this time. MK seems a lifetime away- Smith scored 4 against Gills last week A couple from Jones would be good oh and perhaps a 3rd from Ned Kelly
  17. I am not sure what point you are trying to make? Is there any reason a manager would not be consulted ? of course not! Move on and get behind the team, if you are less comfortable about LJ fine, but he is clearly the best man for the job and I don't think he has any case to answer.
  18. Surely now is the time for us all to move on, as the team did without the need to keep raking over the ashes and trying to find out whodunnit- It is all now history, OAFC players seem to have moved on- lets us all move on and get behind the team we all love.
  19. I found his post match interview so uplifting and it was nice to see a manager able to smile about the shocking officiating that had helped to ruin the comeback party against Doncaster. But as always he always looks for positives and he could not have put on a better interview. He was also right, the all round response fro the players and fans was simply fantastic. I also thought his conduct throughout the events of the last week were excellent diplomacy and he avoided getting caught up in the thing. Of course he still has a lot to learn and will always have detractors but i think we are lucky to have a man of his calibre.
  20. I agree the guy has been truly inspirational and what the hell does it matter if some misjudged him early on- you could only judge on what was on display which by all accounts was pretty dire. Glad to hear to about Amari Morgan-Smith who in the tiny bits i have seen has looked very promising- his late goal at Swindon and near miss v gills at home shows he knows how to get in the right places- i would like to see him given a run
  21. Yes that sounded the way i heard it- it seemed Winch had plenty of time to make it 3-0- It sounded like there were lots of positive things from the players - Kelly sounded immense as always and it was good to hear Forte making a good contribution.\ I am amazed at the negative energy of a few posters who just will not give up! What is past is history and we build on positive and try and learn from mistakes and on to the next game.
  22. For heavens sake! - whatever happened to tolerance- i heard it the way the other response did - and while it could have been better put or not put. It hardly calls for a resignation or another stupid petition- I will sign it to add my view but let us not hope we are no starting another witchhunt- No one is ever satisfied unless they see heads rolling. Can we concentrate on supporting the Latics -
