  1. Fantastic news - Well done TP and all the players a real lift after the gloom of Walsall
  2. Yes I thought he was OK- nothing spectacular - a bit like Sadler- but certainly should not be singled out. Unfortunately once you have a bad name and the whole team performs badly- the usual suspects are always at the top of the list. He never found a pass to another blue shirt?- did anyone? especially in the 1st half when we even struggled to make back passes! I am still puzzled why he was picked but lets not knock him for past offences. perhaps a bit of the main topic but i struggle to see this players cant be bothered comment that is always floated after a dismal showing- just one example- mike Jones singled out as a non trier?? He looked just choked at the end of the game- utterly sickened by the performance. It is the system and the management communication- players looked lost - Dieng for one - not lazy
  3. Yes I am glad someone has posted this as I agree they are a joy to watch and will have half of the UK willing them on - a bit like OAFC back in the day. Sadly this style is miles away from the basic slow stuff we play and Dean or whoever please note how much the ball was played on the floor- watching Latics lately it is all aerial speculative stuff- these Bournemouth players work for each other run constantly and always find the feet of teamates
  4. Well now having the benefit of the reruns on lowlights a few thoughts. Regardless of whether either of the goals might have on another day been ruled out- dont anybody be fooled we were 2nd best by a long way I thought the balance of the side was wrong from the start we were too defensive so we immediately lost midfield and as a result the front two were hardly in the game at all in the 1st half Things improved in the 2nd half with a bit more creativity from Winch coming on. However this leads on to the 2nd thing - we are just too slow thinking or lacking confidence to be adventurous going forward or as Dean said after always taking easy options- consequently we were always trying to attack a packed penalty area. Dean always says the right things before and after but surely he must or certainly should influence what happens on the pitch. This leads to be convinced he is not the right choice at the moment. Now some of the selections Why Mellor? Why Lockwood? Why not Winchester from the off/ Why no Mellis? Apparently fit and our most creative prospect. I thought Walsall looked a good side - a classic contrast was the speed with which they moved the ball for the opener contrasting with how slowly we played on breaks. An enjoyable day out in Walsall and Brum after but a real let down on the pitch .
  5. Or come to Walsall where your other dreams will be fulfilled- civilised start - some decent pubs and plenty of time to enjoy them! I went to BP for the Chesterfield game and the 3rd best pitch in the league took a lot of blame for a pretty turgig affair
  6. I am heading for the Black Country Arms in Walsall for around midday and will then take the train back down 1 stop to Bescot
  7. I went too and agree with all the above and above all was impressed how articulate, intelligent and very insightful he was. I hope he gets a go at managing Latic's in the future and he would certainly restore entertainment. I agree when he said fans would be happier with the ocasional 4-3 defeat than a lot of negative 0-0 type results. He gave us all a great lift after a rather dull day at BP earlier
  8. I am glad to see someone stand up for him- he has had virtually no football for ages, usually comes on late in situations totally wrong for his style of play. In his one moment yesterday he did at least work the keeper twice. A lot of the usual doom and gloom and all the OAFC, Holden, the board are all garbage etc. I thought there were quite a few positives from what was a pretty poor quality game, interestingly the game was described as exciting or something on the Sky highlights and did have it's moments. Coleman IMHO looks the best keeper we have had since Andy Goram and has been brilliant in the last 2 that I saw - Coventry and yesterday and impressive at the very least at Crewe and home to Dale. Elikobi came back after a long break and made an immediate impact coming on for Gerrard who had looked very solid til then- In fact I thought his ( Georges) distribution was better. Philliskirk continued his recovery Special mention had some good attacking moments and came close to scoring early on and also made a brilliant tackle late on. And Dieng- He was immense in the air and also showed a fair bit of composure on the ball. James Wilson also looked a lot more comfortable and getting back to his best. Given the injuries and lack of options I thought Holden did well to thwart a bouyant opponent that had won 5 of their last 6 games and given a 6-0 pasting to Colchester in their last game, and to have a game plan and see it carried out, arguably we might even have nicked it even though we were on the back foot most of the 2nd half. On the negative side so much of our passing was too slow- how many times did Kellly have a pass interecepted at source! before it even had a chance to become misplaced? Also as Philiskirk has improved it seems that Carl Wiinch has faded badly. What happened with Poleon and Mellis?- I only saw 1 mention that they were dropped for disciplinary breaches which does not bode well? In the evening I enjoyed another Holden a hero of a different era who had quite a few interesting tales but of yesterdays game said it was very poor fare! One of the things he picked up on was the congested middle of the park and the migration of 20 players into a small block on either the R or L from each goal kick and the observations that what can anyone do in this congestion and it was like school playyard footie! He also thought the game was dominated by 2 sides too scared to lose.
  9. Yes Agreed It was an absolutely awful game. I did not think we deserved to win- we showed almsi no ambition at all after going in front. We completely surrended the iniative and they were getting closer the longer the 2nd half wore on- It was unfortunate as it looked like a foul against CB but that is the risk you take when you just give the ball away continually. So many players were contents just to clear the ball in to touch- I thought our night was summed up by the run of CB midaway through the 2nd half when he had a shed load of space and support and just lost control unchallenged and ran it into touch I thought Coleman was our star and that DP looked a whole let better. I thought the Crewe game was poor but this one definitely edged it- still in all a good afternoon stopping at the Old Windmill in town and then the Greyhound Chesterfield next! We will have to raise our game but we are capable of doing so. Come on Oldham
  10. I am coming up for this one and wondered if anyone else is around for an Ale or 2 in the City prior to the game? If we get 2 or 3 then a taxi to the Ricoh will be a cheap option. Best to send me a PM or you can call r text on 07808 479693
  11. Well that was not the most enjoyable afternoon and have now had the benefit of watching the highlights and wondered what remedies others can think of. The immediate post match report and what I'd heard from edited bits of DH 's interview suggested that we had come close to scoring several times which was not the feeling I had at the stadium. DH is right that the ball was not played quickly enough and that the forward players were too static. I thought Mellis showed positive signs in his brief 17 mins of having the extra drive and skill to move ahead quicker and then the other was that Murphy in the only short time I saw him at Leyton showed an ability to run into space and to draw players out of position. Much as I like Joe Mills as a player I don't think he is a natural midfielder and was only a shadow of his full back potential yesterday. It also seemed that we really missed Gerrard, just from the few games he has played the sort of free headers that lead to both Crawley goals did not happen. It seems it is either that the forward players do not run into space or that the midfield and back players are not able to pass well enough- every time Connor Brown gets the ball he makes good initial progress and then goes sideways at best. I am not sure how much it is of the above and which needs more attention but interested to hear other views. I can make the Sheff Utd game but plan on being at Coventry and home to Chesterfield. Onwards and Upwards
  12. So sorry to hear this news especially as it was only a few weeks back that the story that ThaiLatic reports appeared. I only saw him in his pre Latics days but he sounded a true character and I am sure will be sadly missed but forever fondly remembered by thousands. Thank you Harry and RIP
  13. Exactly what I got chatting with a Crawley fan in the New Moon after the game. Assuming he(DS) keeps them up then he will have the Crawley job sewn up
  14. I am in favour of the club bar- The Moon sounded crap! Sorry I cant join you on the train down haven't worked out route back yet Our 1st draw in i believe 15 games today. Happy Easter See yous Monday
  15. Hello I think the problem is around Watford so imagine it will affect Latics coming down from HQ by train. I have got round it now with a lift in from Triing to Crawley- happy days- now I can concentrate on beer plans
  16. Yes let us get him RM fit and play a system that works to use his and Turner's talents. I thought he showed good space awareness in that short time on the field at Leyton and he did get the lucky penalty and if we had scored from it the result that day might have been a lot different. He came through the ranks at Arsenal and would not have got that far if he had nothing to offer.
  17. Good post and I also feel the same every time I join our fantastic group. It was a shame to hear about someone letting the side down today by hitting someone, who I hope is OK. We have a tough test on Friday and then I am going down to Crawley and then planning Coventry and Chesterfield and Walsall. Equally proud to be a Latic Fanatic
  18. Anyone else coming from NW London/Herts? I have just looked at trains and it looks a right mare with replacement bus services etc.
  19. Yes I thought so too- I was impressed with his attitude, committment and passion, Really cant see what anyone can complain about perhaps it's the Brummie accent but he put in a great performance on Tues and set us off on the road to an excellent win on Tues
  20. Fast approaching is our next test against the stragglers on Mon 6th April. Hopefully we can get a good crowd together for this- I have become a lucky mascot lately going to Vale, Crewe and Dale as my last 3 games since awful Orient. I have heard that some of the Frankfurt crowd are going to be at this one . So all in all it should be quite an end to the Easter Hols. I have not been there before and wonder if London Bridge would give better prospects for a pre journey bevvy than Victoria. There were 737 Latics fans at Crewe. I know 24 hrs is up for this one
  21. I am planning coming up from Tring to see the Dale game - heartened by being at Crewe and enjoying the 3 points and company if not the game. Now I cant get a return train the same night so wondered if anyone could put me up for the night or knows someone who might? In return i can offer a free night at our B and B on the outskirts of Tring in Herts link attached. http://www.bedandbreakfastsearcher.co.uk/hertfordshire/tring.asp btw I am reasonably well mannered and CRB checked!! I can be contacted on 07808 479693 or afgray48@gmail.com I appreciate any offers and hope to enjoy a great evening on Tues
  22. I am going as well and hope to be at the Borough Arms for 1-00p.m and for a good day out and hoping for a good performance - last one for me was Port Vale and that was great
  23. Um I just watched the same- were the accoustics bad , was it my poor hearing or what? But I think we have a competitor on board and hope he will breathe some life into our leaky back line
  24. I thought so too. SC is an intelligent man and business man and also I believe a true lover of OAFC and is not ppepared to sell to anyone who he thinks is not right- e.g Koukash or whatever his name was. Otherwise i think the facts speak for themselves - he cannot afford to bankroll the club and cannot find a buyer as things are, hence sees the stand as a priority. And as you say Mr Singe , this need to find someone to blame for everything is not good. There have been so many external factors in this anything but dull season. Let us hope for a change of fortune at Crewe- i thought we had it at Port Vale but 3 defeats since have been hard to take. It was interesting to see in another post about best players of last 10 years or so and there were a fair few entries from this present team. Roll; on Crewe- I will be there and maybe even Rochdale next Tuesday
