  1. Everything else works. This is the link I've always used http://www.oldham-chronicle.co.uk/main.html I can't get the e-chron or sports edition any more without paying, so it's the same link as above now.
  2. Me and my mate were in the middle of that lot; we'd queued for bloody hours getting our tickets and couldn't get any for the Chaddy. Of course, there was no segregation in those days and we were slap dab in the middle of a few thousand Scousers. There was no trouble, no fighting, just good hearted banter and we had a great time with them despite the (undeserved) 2-1 defeat. I can also remember the days when loads of us used to change ends at half time, to be behind the goal we were attacking, by simply walking up the back of the Broadway stand to the other end. We always went in the Chaddy to start and many's the time we had to leg it up to the Rocky Road end as Latics played "up broo". Oh, happy days.
  3. Great news for the lad and the club. Just shows how much Ronnie Mooreon got wrong letting Kelvin & Pogs go and how much better off we are with Shez. Kelvin is as bright a prospect as Trotters, maybe more so; let's hope he doesn't leave within the 3 1/2 years. Chuffed.
  4. I can only echo every one of the sentiments on here. Les has had the worst possible season a professional player could have and no-one deserves that. He's been a great servant and, in my view, one of the best keepers we have had in the 50-odd years I've been a true blue. Maybe not quite in the class of Goram (1st time around), Bollands or Kelly, but a big man (in every sense of the word) who we had confidence in when he was on top of his game. Sorry to say that I, too, think we have seen the last of him so "Thanks Pogs and good luck. A true LoTW in time to come". On the other hand, if he makes a full recovery and gets a new contract, then "Whey hey, welcome back Pogs!!"
  5. Like Diego, Fred was the No1 keeper when I first went to BP as a kid with my Dad. There wasn't much meat on him, but I remember him as a solid and fearless goalkeeper who served the club well in three separate spells. His son, Chris, was an excellent keeper too. RIP Fred and condolences to all of your family.
  6. I've gone for play-offs - just. I believe that we can finish 6th now that performances over the last two weeks look more promising. Don't you see Jarrett & Livermore wanting Championship football again? It's some incentive for them to give their all. We've already got Championship quality players in Gregan (when he's fit again), Hazell and Hughes (when fully fit),so why shouldn't we be confident about a late season push. Yes, we at least need another striker, but other teams have done it at the last minute, so why not Latics? The fat lady ain't started singing yet.
  7. Of course!! I knew (or new) Terry Wogan had other interests than Radio 2.
  8. Ahh, thanks Diego. I thought it was a fan who suffered froma problem caused by worms!! Did you notice how he went into golfer mode as he replaced divots....... then made a little mound of earth to place the ball on........ then made a complete town halls of the kick - priceless.
  9. He doesn't shout and I'm sure that it led to words between him and Trotters. At one point, Hazell shouted "leave it" to Trotters so Crossley could collect a high through ball. Crossley's kicking today was awful, but I wondered if he was favouring his back again? Having said all that, his saves in the second half were nothing short of mind boggling. He had no right to get to the double save, but he managed it somehow. I'd prefer Pogs, but he is so short of match practice, he may not be at his best yet. But a big THANK YOU to 'Norm' for today.
  10. I think there's about as much truth in this as the possibility of Rafa Benitez leaving 'pool for us and bringing our new striker by the name of Crouch with him. Shez ain't going.
  11. Semi final and replay against ManUre 1990. Still peed off about it.
  12. How come Mikel Antoine-Currier never got a mention? And there must a slot for that American geezer we had on loan from Man Ure. He was so bloody good, I've forgotten his name.
  13. Thanks. It was driving me nuts trying to figre out what it was.
  14. I'll be at Yeovil next Satdi, so me and Diego could do a duet.
  15. It was a military maching tune, but I'm damned if I can remember what it's called. It sort of went : De dee de dee dee dee dee dee de
  16. Oh what memories. I seem to remember when we signed the left back John McCue (from Stoke, if I remember correctly), we changed one line of the song to: "Branagan and McCue at full back" Wasn't it also the era when the Zigga Zagga chant started? Jack was a fantastic manager, who had the knack of bringing players together who could play bright, attacking football and as for bringning Bobby Johnstone to BP, what a master stroke. Not another manager in the lower leagues could have done that. Shows the measure of the man.
  17. What a wonderfully cynical view. Harsh but totally fair. Brilliant.
  18. The white was worn at Chasetown at least. Can't remember any other times apart from the 'one-off' white kit at Palace.
  19. Oh, I dunno. Mark Arber is doing OK at Stevenage and Guy Pickle .... ... OK, I can't keep a straight face any longer.
  20. The fluo yellow doesn't look ery fluo to me. Pity really, I could have stuck a club badge on the hi-vis coat I keep in the car and got away with it. They're all hideous, but I suppose the burgundy / blue is the best of a bad lot. Don't want any of them, so keep the tangerine. I'll most likely still buy one though just to stick another 40 quid into the club - they need every penny they can get.
  21. Had mixed feelings when I heard. Initially wanted a "biggie" away to generate even more cash but we have a great chance of going further now. And if we were going to get another League 1 club, I'd rather have Udders than Swindon / Bristol Rovers / Millwall / Luton / Southend / Trannie. Much bigger crowd for Udders although getting another one over Ronnie Moron would have been pretty OK as long as they get past Hereford & Cardiff. Let's hope not too many more greedy league boys get dumped this time, then roll on Round 5.
  22. Last Saturday night's Bristol Evening Post has a big splash on its back page about Steve Brooker. He says he wants to repay Bristol City's faith in him for giving him the chance to resurrect his career after being jailed in August 2006 after a brawl and serious injury. He's only played reserve team football so far this season and he's guaranteed Gary Johnson he'll be available for 20 games between now and the end of the season.
  23. It is only a loan deal at Norwich for Berty, so he'll go back to Chelski at the end of the season. I believe that Chelsea have given him an extended contract, so it makes sense to let him go to a bigger club, but not a top club such as WBA or Watford. They're building him gradually; makes sense. So, who to fill the left back slot? For me, it's got to be Kelvin Lomax. He won't let us down he'll give his all and lets the likes of Stammy and Taylor play in their normal positions.
  24. Good luck to the kid. Any player would take a move to a bigger club for more dosh, given the cance. Remember "True Blue Rooney" (yep, him that was an Evertonian through and through) buggering off to ........... ....... where was it, now? Oh aye, that lot are reputed to be richest in the land. No matter what job you're in, you don't turn down a better offer from another employer. It will be something of a surprise if he isn't playing in the Championship next season. Could even be the Prem the season after. He wouldn't have done that at BP or Donny because, no matter how much we all want success for our club, realistically we won't hit the top flight for a few years yet. Shez would have always known that he may not have stayed and, being the shrewd man he is, he'll have had ideas about replacements. So bid NK a fond farewell, thanks for being here and, who knows, we could be up against him next season in the Championship.
  25. Not been around for a while, but so pleased to see this grow to 1296 names now. This cannot be refused again, surely?
