ghostofcecere
It looks like we may have seen the last of Les in a Latics shirt...................... it's a shame, I've always quite liked him really. Pogs' Injury is serious!

RoytonBlueLad
Certainly seems so. Great keeper in his time here IMO. All the best for the future Les
Guest sheridans_world
Yea, 12 months is too long, wish him all the best. He wont get another contract with us now that has been discovered.

Now let me think. Spindles, the Civic or Bondi????????????????
ceskylatic
Dont think he would`ve got an extension to his contract at the end of the season anyway. This rubber stamps it. All the best Les with the injury & for the future. And thanks for some great memories. An amazing penalty save at Prenton Park will stick in my memory. Nohairdontcare
I've always liked Les - chatted to him once and he was genuinely friendly - sad if he goes, and I wish him all the best.
wardlelatic
I'm sure the club would do something for the lad ..... He is still young enough to have the rehab back home and come back to the UK !!! All the best Les ... You can have my old place in Dee Why if you want it

cheshireblue
Heard an interview with him over the weekend & was saying his parents back in Oz are not in great health so even before todays news I was thinking he would be wanting to return home. During Dowie's spell here I thought Les was one of the best keepers outside the Premiership. Good luck for the future Les.

During Dowie's spell here I thought Les was one of the best keepers outside the Premiership. Good luck for the future Les. that and he could of quite easily left us to it in our darkest days and followed Dowie... i have NEVER, and WILL never, knock the guy who has produced some of the greatest goalkeeping at BP over the last few years.... If you do say " cheerio " then you do with my greatest thanks for the service to Oldham Athletic... it would be very fitting to say " ta-ra " to the guy, so please don't let him go without letting us have our chance to thank him! laticsrblue
He is still young enough to have the rehab back home and come back to the UK !!! He'd be daft to risk permanent damage just to play another season in a reserve team or in non league. How about a testimonial; Latics vs a team of UK based Aussie Professionals. Who will be the 1st to get an Aussie team together. I know you want to.
oafc2002
If the club doesnt have a benefit game for Les then its a disgrace, you think of the good memorys the fans have had over the last few years Les is at the heart of most of them e.g Telling Dowie he wanted to stay with us. Didnt do a Clint Hill and go chasing the money. Wonder save that kept us in this division against Bradford Beating City in the cup save after save. But aside from all the above I have always found Les to be a nice guy, who has always given his all for OAFC and he must be rewarded for his loyal service. leeslover
One of a limited number of players who I have really felt is, "one of us," and that for a guy who is about as far from being home grown as they come. You could just see the pain all over his face if he made a mistake, you could never hold any errors against him when you could see they hurt him more than they hurt us. Overall definitely one of our all time greatest keepers - I think his performance away at Stockport stands as one of the finest goalkeeping performances I have seen at any level of the sport. All the best Les.
oafc0000
Totally gutted for him and us! I still belive him to be one of the best keepers in the lower leagues....good luck les!!

Overall definitely one of our all time greatest keepers - I think his performance away at Stockport stands as one of the finest goalkeeping performances I have seen at any level of the sport. All the best Les. Without doubt - I remember him being described as Superman that day. He was simply brilliant that day. There are so many other performances, saves and moments (Eyresy testimonal game when he turned on the style in attack, his length of the field run to celebrate in the corner v QPR home in 04/05). I heard the same interview pre-match on Saturday about his regular trips back to Oz because of the health of his parents, and thought then that reading between the lines he was heading back there as soon as possible. I think the fact that the site has said that he is discussing his options with his wife rather than making the usual 'specialists'-type of comments would suggest we could've seen the last of Pogs in a latics shirt. An excellent player and one of lifes gents! I wish him all the best whatever happens next...
wardlelatic
All great ideas. We have a trust meeting tomorrow so I will mention what as been said and see if any balls can be put into play as such. A year out back home with his family will be a lot easier on him and his wife ... I'm hoping that he does have a future in the game once he gets fit. Best of Luck Poggy ! beag_teeets
Can't add much more, a true Latics legend. Good luck Pogs and hope your injury clears up soon. You never know, doctors have been wrong before.

oafcprozac
Gutted for the lad, get yourself home mate and look after your family. Its only a game afterall, with the sun beating down I'm sure his recuperation will go better and hopefully things won't seem as bad. Must be awful for him being 1,000s of miles away from his parents. Will always be welcome back at BP in my eyes and i'd like to think the club will see him right over at least some of his treatment or the bare minmum a benefit game like we did with Shez. The guy holds the record for number of clean sheets for a latics keeper and when you look at the quality we have had over the years that is some feat. For that reason alone we should be allowed tio show our gratitude. The term legend is used too loosely at times on this website but for his loyalty alone when he could have TWICE gone to Palace in February and June 2004 and twice said no preferring to repay the faith the club had in giving him his big break deserves recognition. Yes, his kicking was atrocious and he was prone to the occasional gaffe but boy when he was on song he was nigh on unbeatable. Performaces which stand out in no particular order:- West Ham (A) W1-0 Tranmere (A) W2-1 Bristol City (A) L0-2 (should've been 10 and i'm not exaggerating) QPR (A) L0-1 Outstanding on one leg Sheff Wed (A) D2-2 Kuqi beat him all ends up with a header, twisted backwards in mid-air and caught the bugger, awesome save! Stockport (A) D1-1 One man barrier that day agree with Leeslover - Superman! City (H) W1-0 Bradford (H) W2-1 Pogs is up there in my top 5 Latics keepers and more than worthy to be mentioned in the same breath as Goram, Hallworth, Rhodes and Kelly Good Luck Les to you, your wife and your family
the_mighty_bosh
All the best Les! When confident, he was up there with the best 'keepers in the football league! Lots of great memories from the playoff seasons and survival season and of course the Man City cup game! Does anyone know where the highlights of the Bradford game are? I never saw the saves he made in that game. My guess is that, when fit again, he'll play in the A league and I hope he'll recover to play a few more seasons!
