can we assume from the fact that this thread has turned into another 'Gregan:crap/not crap?' debate that the injury that's put him in hospital isn't any real cause for concern?

My HP sauce tells me he's been discharged from hospital, so i dont think it was too bad!

Harsh as it sounds, he'll get stitched up and be OK. It sounded nasty but he'll have been in the wars over the years, it's only his looks that will suffer. Sure he'll be back soon.

But his face is his fortune.....

seriously though, i wouldn't have thought he'd be kept in hospital overnight for a cut mouth, and if he's broken his jaw or something he'll be out for a while. But hopefully if he's been discharged it's not that bad.

What was the defence pairing last year when it was rock solid????

There is merit to the Stam / Hazell debate.

I do think that last season the midfield was better as a defensive force, but had the creativity of a not very creative thing and that probably assisted the excellent goals conceded record of the Stam / Hazell partnership. Had it been Hazell / Gregan I suspect the goals against record would have been similar. But we'll never know.

While not perfect, the midfield is now a far more potent attacking force and this has, at times, left us exposed at the back.

You could call for the return of Kalala in place of Whitaker, or Super Kevin Maher to play alongside Allott with a view to making us a little more solid defensively. The price would be midfielders linking up with the attack as often.

That said, our run of 0-1 home defeats at this stage of last season appears not to have returned, we are picking up points away from BP with regularity and there are a lot more goals at the right end (as well as the wrong end).

Give me 3-2 wins rather than great defences and 0-1 defeats.

As for centre half pairings. I'm undecided as to who should partner Hazell.

The midfield last season during the Hazell/Stam regime was invariably Allott/MacDonald/Taylor/Smalley with Lomax and Eardley as full backs. Not much difference defensively to our present team. I have always stated that both Hazell and Stam compliment each other with their mobility. Gregan at the moment is not picking up the big forward and if you actually, closely watch him, he doesn't jump for the ball. He relies on trying to outmuscle the opposition to give himself a clear header.

OMG FFS its another lets slag Gregan off he's the worst player in the world thread AGAIN AGAIN AGAIN this is :censored: :censored:e.

FFS change the record he did absolutely nothing wrong in yesterdays game, and appears to have badly hurt his mouth defending the cause and yet we still get his absolute :censored:e.

He has played at a level most of the players in our squad can and will only dream of.

Please FFS change the :censored: record, its boring and its not true.

Try maybe to concentrate on the teams inability to overcome 10 men and the wasted opportunity that the 2 points thrown away have cost us.

The rarely wrong Chron reports:

The paramedics at Boundary Park recommended North Manchester Hospital as they specialise in such injuries, fearing he would need a general anaesthetic such was the severity of the cut.

Happily that was not the case and Gregan was discharged late on Saturday evening having had the cut stitched. He was today recovering at home and is due to report back tomorrow when the injury will be assessed.

A sauce said it only hurts when he laughs.

So have Ricketts, Crossley, Eardley, Kilkenny and Davies, yet they've all been branded a bag of shoite on this board in the last week. It's all about opinions innit? Don't let it wind you up.

He'd be in my squad every week at the moment - but I wouldn't necessarily give him a start because I don't believe he's any better (or worse) than Stam or Hazell. In fact, if we were to go up I'd hope that Centre Back is a position that's seriously considered when we're looking at transfers.

Depending on the severity of the cut (I've not seen it) it might have needed an maxillofacial opinion (maxillofacial surgeons have both medical and densitry qualifications) and there is no point going to somewhere that is not possible just because it is next door as the docs at Oldham would have probably sent him there anyway. North Manchester General Hospital is THE place in the North West for such matters, (as it is a specialised area) cuts in the mouth can be problematic and Gregan may have to alter his diet for a few days (not necessary a bad thing). Hope he gets fit soon.

I once lost a couple of teeth and had to have 17 stitches in the mouth from a tackle in football. I made the mistake of going to Oldham where they wrongly informed me i would have to have all the stitches without anastetic, and they managed to stitch it wrong which left me with a funny lump in my lip. The single most painful day of my life to yet. Trouble is, i only found out about the wrong information days AFTER the incident. I bet he's glad he went to Manchester if he reads this. Hope he enjoys his soup for the next 5 days like i did. ^_^

Get a grip, man. If I thought he had a good game then I would say so. There is no hidden agenda in the way I look at players. In my opinion AND listening to several groups around my seat in the RRE, he had a poor game.

The reason for this recurring theme is because our "best player" is performing significantly below what his early season form displayed.

If, in my opinion, his next game is equally abysmal, then I will be on here to state my displeasure. Equally so, if I think he has an outstanding game I will also be on here to say so.

Get used to it. It is MY opinion. If you don't like, don't read it!!!

Just in case anyone missed his previous opinions (and this was just on this Gregan post) I've listed them below for your reading pleasure.

P.S Mr Stu Voss I salute you ... in your extended highlights you managed to superimpose Gregans head on another player who made won some great aerial challenges through-out the game, gave a couple of stylist balls to his colleagues and a great timed tackle inside the area to stop a great BHA chance.

We know what we see!!! We see an overweight, slow, gaffe-prone bully who criticises everybody around him. The negativity will stop when he deserves his place which at the momenthe most definately isn't.

This is a board of opinions. We do not have to take the word of the manager as gospel and you don't have to be a professional footballer to see when a player is not playing well.

Open your eyes, man!!!

Can you not see a man who is NOT leading by example?

He shouts at players for HIS mistakes.

So we blindly carry on as if nothing is wrong. His personal life is having a bearing on his performances.

My answer - take him out of the limelight so he can sort himself out.

Your answer - pat him on the head, send him out with the captain's armband and say "Carry on, Sean, it'll all come together soon".

Well that's a quality response!!!

Not quite sure you've grasped this football thing. Gregan is a defender and as such he is making mistakes as a defender. How many times are you going to talk him up and ignore the points he has cost us?

I've put plenty of my thoughts on here on why he is not worth his place.

Time for you to throw your thoughts on why he should have kept his place (assuming he is not fit for the next game).

The floor is yours, old boy!!!

Your the one who needs to get a grip, you have started this one man crusade against Gregan and it has turned into a petty personal vendetta.

I have had a sift back through previous threads and can find no posts from you commending Gregan on his massive man of the match performances away at Leeds and Tranmere where both opposing managers who are infinately better placed and more informed than you, thought he was the difference between the teams and was head and shoulders man of the match.

Try to watch the whole game and don't just watch Gregan, hoping and praying for him to slip, fall or mis-judge and also wanting any mistake to result in a goal for the opposition just so you can rush to your PC and spew some more bile.

By the way I won't get used to it ever, it is your opinion for what thats worth, all I'm trying to do is correct your wild and inaccurate opinions if YOU don't like it, DON'T READ IT.

This is not a "personal vendetta" as you put it. I merely put forward my comments after what was, in MY OPINION, a POOR performance from a once fine player who is now showing his age. If people disagree with me, that's fine, but give me some direction where, in YOUR OPINION, he had a good game, not simply say "he's our best player, leave him alone", he is not above harsh criticism. If people reply to my post, I will return comments. It's what a message board is for.

If you have read my posts on Gregan in the past, you will have come across my points about his early season form and how he has fallen from that standard.

But don't come on quoting games from over 3 months ago, a lot has changed since then. If you haven't noticed the drop in form then your head is buried in the sand or up some other orifice.

But thank you once again for keeping this going!!!

No problem, you're welcome.

I haven't at any point ever said I thought he was our best player and certainly would never say leave him alone.

His career stats speak for themselves.

He has had well documented personal problems and his form isn't as good as it was early season.

He has had some poor games and made mistakes which have on occasion led to goals.

However on Saturday I didn't think he was poor atall, he was outpaced for the goal but people should realise he is not the quickest player on the books.

The fact that he was outpaced doesn't make the goal his fault, he had a solid game and won everything in the air defensively AGAIN.

The only other alternative we have is Stefan (The Rock) Stam, enough said.
