Danny's not a hardcase, he's just a genuine long-time fan who had had enough of the crap that was being served up, and the fact that no-one seemed to be listening (Ring any bells?). When he strolled onto the pitch it was the highlight of the season. Amazingly, there was no major confrontation, and one of the team (Can't remember who) extended his hand to pull Danny up, saying "Ok, you've made your point, don't get yourself in any more trouble mate". The police and stewards that day were remarkably calm, and treated Danny with respect when they escorted him off the pitch to the biggest ovation heard at BP for many a season. He's still a regular at home games (When he can scrounge a ticket!), and drinks in the Primrose View and Bank Top Tavern. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

If you did that these days, expect a 3 year banning order or even a life-time banning order issued by the club (not a bad thing I know). I would argue that if someone is making a peaceful protest as was the case at BP than a banning order would be inappropriate... I think the guy at Grimsby clearly had a :censored: solicitor / or it was anything but peaceful... Danny was pictured sat in the centre-circle on the back of one of that season's BTB, needless to say I couldn't miss the opportunity of blowing the picture up and adding my own speech bubble, (Summat about him tapping Redmond, Fleming or Henry for a sub) anyone who knows Danny will know thuis to be accurate! Said modified picture took pride of place on his local's notice board for years. He spent the whole game stating "he's had enough, he was invading the pitch", he was egged on a little as no-one thought he would do it - then before we knew it he was sat on the centre-spot! Plenty of people were urging him on from the Paddock just as he was debating whether to actually go through with it. He simply walked to the half way line unchallenged and sat himself down. There wasnt even a steward anywhere near him so he had the freedom to simply stroll onto the pitch. Best standing ovation i've ever seen at Boundary Park.
