Same again next home game

Recommended Posts

£2 in and fill the ground again, I've worked out that taking the season tickets into account, tonight was a success and paid for itself, assuming we'd have had less than 4000 if the £2 offer hadn't been in place!

Do it again and again and let's hope we can get back to putting on a performance to hold onto at least a thousand who'd pay full whack!!

How do you work that out?

Have you spoken to any of the businesses that have sponsored this?

So lets "clarify".

Simon Corney will be happy, but the businesses?

Businessmen have been unhappy at the amount they have had to stump up and won't be in a rush to do it again.

Business people feel the players let the fans down.

Businesses know the next game will be back to normal.

Businesses know that it was the fans using social networks that got the attendance high, their companies names were not featured prominently enough.

I think a statement from SC might be more appropriate.

Your statements have misled people into thinking all is well with the world and we will be fine, and they should not do anything.

Dangerous game this clarifying isn't it?

All we have to go on are the two statements, by OMBC< and OAFC. Until such time as a further statements form both parties show that they are working together.

Even if it was £2 next home game we wouldn't get that many turning up. Here's a few reasons:

Poor performance.

Plenty of people had nowhere to sit. Including myself. I was sat on the steps in the rocky. Apparently there were seats but i couldnt see them and when i asked stewerds they just ignored me.

Poor facilities. Heard a few people who i guess don't normally go asking where the bar was. Made me chuckle.

I left 10 mins before half time. Call me fickle but i was sat on concrete steps and still had a poor view. Wasn't worth £2 but at least the club got a decent attendance.

In the pub afterwards i heard quite a few people (some who i have seen at Latics before) saying they weren't going again.

I say that after every defeat. And at the end of every season.

Simon Corney will be happy, but the businesses? - Corney was pleased with the attendance no dout, but soured by a crap performance and no doubt a fine from the FA

Businessmen have been unhappy at the amount they have had to stump up and won't be in a rush to do it again. Some gave more than others, they knew what they were sponsoring, given the ground was full i'd say job done

Business people feel the players let the fans down. :censored: happens, even United and the big boys play :censored: every now and again!

Businesses know the next game will be back to normal. I've of no doubt, but if people want to see nailed on goals, then the Posh game is it

Businesses know that it was the fans using social networks that got the attendance high, their companies names were not featured prominently enough. Come on, the Chron had the advert in for pretty much a fortnight, so did the official site, Advertiser, previous programme and each business was mentioned at least four times by Broady over the PA, twice before the game and twice at HT AND there was a whole page given up in the supplement to the programme. Then of course we did it to death by raising awareness on local and national radio and linking it on Facebook and Twitter

Yur statements have misled people into thinking all it well with the world and we will be fine, and they should not do anything.

Dangerous game this clarifying isn't it?

Is this tongue in cheek Singe? Just in case it wasn't….

The attendance was way above my prediction, taking into account the weather, Citeh on TV before the match and Spurs and the Brits on during the match. I was amazed at the length of the queue to get in the Chaddy End from the car park. The double turnstile was in use but not the single one. I went to the steward at the front of the queue to ask if one queue was for season ticket holders - he didn't know what a ST was, he said it's £2 for everybody. On taking my place at the back of the queue, I was chastised by sheridans_world for trying to jump the queue.

Mrs. S. and I bought half-time draw tickets from different vendors, one at ech side of the Chaddy. We agreed that if we won the cash prize we would donate it to the Club. She usually keeps the tickets with her when she goes to the loo at half-time, but I had presence of mind to get her to leave them with me. Normally I can't hear the PA announcer at the front of the Chaddy but I made sure I was where I could hear him last night.

Then surprise, surprise! I won the 2nd prize - the first time I've won anything at Latics in my 60 years of keeping the Faith. I was escorted by a steward to the half-way line and got to renew aquaintence with Craig Dudley, who had drawn out my ticket. We reminisced about playing bar-football together in a night club in the Isle of Man. We also laughed about the Burton Albion player being 'arrested' by the police after Craig had scored against Latics in the F.A. Cup - featured on last Saturday's Football league Show.

I also met the Oldham boxer who was on the pitch displaying his title belt.

The prize was £100 worth of JD Sports vouchers. We all had a picture taken and Alan Hardy came out to shake my hand.

Mrs. S. knew nothing of my 15 minutes of fame as she was caught up in the queues at the back of the Chaddy.

No thank you ! the ammount of chavs and trouble causes just looking to slag the away fans off instead of getting behind the lads. i was at the top of the RRE and some lad who was stood next to me was slaging oldham off left right and centre. i turned round and asked if he was here against notts county, huddersfield, plymouth? not surprisingly he turned away and walked off without a reply !!

I think the £2 entrance was a massive success and should def be repeated as long as season ticket holders being happy about it, which i am. We would have had a crowd of around 3000 if it was full price in of which 2000 would have been season ticket holders leaving 1000 paying on the day at an average of say £15 = £15000 on the gate. There was 8500 there last night so after the season ticket holders (of which most that i know still paid the £2) 6500 paying £2 = £13000. Local businesses was asked to give £500 or £1000 which a lot did and other gave what they could, so we wasnt down on the gates. If anything there should be a little over from what the businesses have gave to possibly fund doing the same again. I know some might not come back again but i think if we charged £5 in for all our remaining home games, except Sheff Wed and M.K.Dons, which i think will have big crowds anyway, we could get 4000 paying on the gate which along with 2 or 3 businesses each game sponsoring us would generate the same cash as a 3500 gate paying full price.

If 6500 were pay on the day, which I think is right, and they paid £2 instead of £15, does that not mean the sponsors are being asked to pay at least 6,500 x £13? £84,500?

Is the £15 right?

Not sure on my maths regarding how much the sponsor pays but the 6,500 x 13 is right.

Dont think so. I would think the club would have known roughly what they would taken on the gates (say 15k) so with all the £2's paid and the money of the businesses they would have wanted to still hit that figure. I dont think they would have been looking for businesses to make up the full price of everybody.

There seems to be some on here of the opinion that the 'extra' fans last night were largely people who never ever come to a game. I'm sure there were a few who, largely non-Latics fans who tagged along, and went away after the game saying 'that was gash' 'what a waste of £2 ' 'tinpot club' ' not going there again'. But I think the vast majority of those 'extra' fans last night were made up of people who do actually come to games, but perhaps on a very occasional basis - maybe just a few times a season. We all have loads of friends, colleagues, family, acquaintances who we know to come and watch us just a few a times a season - and I think last night 'extras' was mainly made of those type of people all coming at once and taking advantage of the offer.

I don't think the performance last night will get them running back, but nor do I think another 6 - 0 'celebration sunday' style victory would have them running back. Most of them 'extras' last night were probably lapsed fans who know what to expect from BP and Oldham Athletic - they know the facilities aren't the best, they know the team is inconsistent, they know the weather is likely to be poor. Only success on the pitch will bring them back on a more prolonged basis.

That said, I think last night was a resounding success - shame about the performance on the pitch.

On that basis, it may well be a success, but I suppose the only people that can tell us that are SC adn the businsses.

Quality post Singe, well thought out obviously backed up with factual evidence to support it

You've either lost the plot or you need to brush up on your sarcasm skills just a tad

Any announcement from Corney yet on the new stadium venture B)

Clarity is only dangerous if you're unclear on the facts
