marhar
I found him irritating to be honest, don't think there was any suggestion that the players weren't heading over there anyway, just taking his chance to be heard on TV
AndyGortonsMatches
I'm sure this kind of banter happens all the time, just happened to be caught on a mic. Good to see officials arent robotic drones.

Lags
cynics. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt
JoeLatics
I found him irritating to be honest, don't think there was any suggestion that the players weren't heading over there anyway, just taking his chance to be heard on TV Rubbish, how could he have possibly known that that comment would be picked up underneath the noise of the crowd and commentators? leeslover
cynics. I'd like to give him the benefit of the doubt I tend to agree. Cameras all around all the time and little chance of it being repeated.
marhar
I think you've got a fair chance of knowing when there's a cameraman a metre or two away in the pitch with lights on that show he's recording. Even Rooney worked it out at the World Cup that time. Plus you know that the media cherry pick to fit an agenda, and this had been a big issue. I don't buy it. Dave_Og
Who cares? If players have to be told then it's irreleavnt that they "thank" their fans anyway.
marhar
Well that was my point, they don't need to be told, they do it as a matter of course anyway. But this kind of thing gets used as a stick to beat them with

Crusoe
Cant believe he has been dropped. What a joke According to the association representing match officials (can't remember the name) he was withdrawn to avoid being the centre of attention, not as a disciplinary measure. Whether we believe it or not, they can't really be seen to punish him after making that statement.
opinions4u
Don't care whether he was playing to the camera or not. I don't think he was. What he said was funny.
bigfatjoe1
Dropping him is ridiculous. At the time I thought he was being patronising but there was nothing controversial in what he said. tangerinedreams
I found him irritating to be honest, don't think there was any suggestion that the players weren't heading over there anyway, just taking his chance to be heard on TV I'd say he had been in front of the cameras more than enough times than wanting to hear his own voice on motd2, wouldn't you? laticsrblue
Never mind if he did it to be heard on telly or not, he's still right - £62 WTF! Makes Latics £25 look daft, should have been £50 at least and that's for the OAPs. Edited January 16, 2013 by laticsrblue
