Why was Murray brought in ?

Recommended Posts

If a couple of inexperienced teenagers were preferred from the bench when by all accounts it was was crying out for the team to need a steadying influence ?

Was you at the game? Because if you wasn't then it's difficult to say the team was crying out for a steadying influence.

To be fair, Dickov's subs were attacking players in an attempt to get a goal. At this stage in his career, Murray is as you say, more likely to be a steadying influence but when your 2-1 down with 15 minutes to go he isn't what you need. You need more attack minded players who will look to beat the defender and get a cross in and someone running to get on the end of it. Murray isn't either of them type of players. If we was winning 2-1 with 15 minutes to go, then you would want Murray on to put his foot on the ball, slow down the play and keep possession.

or you cluld argue it required a player of his experience to grab the game by the scruff of the neck, dictate the play and provide that killer final ball to the forwards. that was the murray of old. not sure if he can still do this? i dont like our headless chicken approach whem we are chasing games. mvoto thrown up top and chuckin as many attackers on as possible doesnt seem to rescue games for us...
