Aaron Howarth
Missed the weekend game against Crewe, was on a stag do in Magaluf so was dying with the worst hangover i've ever had in bed at the time we were playing, and sounds like I was having more fun than people watching the game! Where we proper :censored:e? Anywho, what side would you play this weekend? I've defended Rooney but saw he was taken off at HT maybe worth giving Mcdonald + JCH a go again? philliggi
Whatever we do we need to find a partnership up top and stick with it swapping and changing is doing no good whatsoever. Strikers need consistency to breed consistency
IceStationLatic
He's gone on record praising Wes and suggested Mac will have a run. So he'll either go Dayton behind Mac in a 4-4-1-1/ 4-2-3-1, or quite an aggressive 4-3-1-2 with Dayton behind Rooney and Mac, and Wes, Smith and Monty as the three. The latter could become a 4-4-2 off the ball quite quickly with Dayton dropping back I suppose...whereas with the former, I'd just be concerned about it becoming a 4-5-1 with the striker becoming totally isolated. Still don't think JCH has done enough to persuade him the boss to start him, and, post-Mellor, he might be mindful of his discipline when considering throwing him in from the start for an away game... 24hoursfromtulsehill
Johnson needs to pick two and back them for five games. I'd pick JCH, who's the biggest physical threat we've got, and one of MacDonald. Rooney or Philliskirk.
opinions4u
MacDonald and Philliskirk look most likely to create an understanding together.

So I would expect same starting 11but with Dayton playing in midfield as he did in the second half.

c.hill12
So is LJ dropping Sid or you?Drop wes at home and play 4-1-3-2 dayton just ahead of smith, and montano/smeltz on wingsAway it would be as saturday imho
OAFC_Ryan
I'm a big fan of JCH but on Saturday he did not look one bit interested, Philliskirk and Charlie Mac to start with Dayton in a Baxter role behind them for me.
the_mighty_bosh
I'd stick with the 4-4-2, certainly on Saturday away at Crawley. The defence and centre midfield will need to be disciplined so Smith and Wes have to start and the current back 4 have earned their places. Dayton through the middle is an option later on if we need to unlock their defence, but he shouldn't play in the hole at the expense of a 2nd striker. I'd be happy with any of the 3 wingers playing. Up front I agree that strikers need to be part of a consistent partnership to work most effectively, but at the same time I'm not convinced that Rooney merits another start. MacDonald and Philliskirk would be my pick, while I still have doubts that the 2 would be too similar to work together they both have earned starts from previous games. Oxley Lanzoni Tarky Grounds Mills Dayton Smith Wes Montano MacDonald Philliskirk That would be my team. Nothing against Sid I just prefer the other two. Midsblue
Are we looking to bolster the midfield after the lad from City spat his dummy out? Haven't heard anything regarding a replacement and question is are we looking bearing in mind he wasn't used in the first team. Still think we need some creativity unless Mellor or one of the other kids steps up. Wes and Smith in the middle is a little cautious especially if we play two up front as opposed to an attacking midfielder to link midfield and attack. I've read the criticism regarding Rooney and think its unfair. He needs the ball to feet and lately we have been playing two many air balls. Still reckon he's more a target man to hold ball up, play in the wingers and his strike partner - McDonald or Philliskirk.
singe
By still playing Rooney, isn't LJ giving him an extended run; the way some are asking other players to be backed? To get him playing into some form? Edited September 25, 2013 by singe
Laticacid
Exactly . It's easy to say stick with a partnership for 5 games if we are winning. LJ has backed Rooney who is proven at this level , but I'd rather he tried to change things when we lose , rather than do a dickov and pick the same players every week. IceStationLatic
You didn't mention Sid in your previous post. That's because I didn't have him in the team! I presume Montano would be a replacement for him if he starts. Although Sid could be in if he played Dayton behind one striker. The 4-1-3-2 mentioned above looks good and fits Monty, Sid and Dayton into the team. But unless they can get their foot in, I reckon we'd be over-run in midfield (we have been with two central midfielders!). Solely looking ahead to Sat, I can't see him dropping Wes after his effort on Sat and the boss praising him so much.
Oh Heck C-Beck
I'd still go with Rooney with another (probably MacDonald again). Don't think the team is really struggling for goals, more the leaky defense that has us where we are at the moment. The opposite to usual. alex_balls
Montano has just had surgery hasnt he? I thought that as I posted, I'd put Mills on left wing then, it's where I see his long term future...
bluehobbit
Rooney and Charlic McD up front for me. Both will get goals with service I like JCH but Port Vale apart I haven't seen him threaten too much

He has but I think the boss said he still might be available for Sat. Most likely to be on the bench, if 'fit', I guess.
Laticacid
It surprises me that we don't ever go 3 in the middle , call it 433, 451 whatever , 2 central midfielders in a straight 442 is dated . How about wes sitting , smith and dayton/mellor in front of him, with Sid n jch playing off Rooney .
