Latics_Fanatic
LB is the priority now. Striker is also needed, wouldn't be sad to see Rooney leave either permanent or on loan - doesn't seem to want it enough for me.

Wage could be spent better elsewhere.
BP1960
Heard on the grapevine that the Latics are interested in an ex Droylsden left back, now in the Conference.. plenty of other league clubs after him though. Big powerful lad, very quick going forward, packs a tremendous shot and is a free kick specialist. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sean_Newton He would do well here IMO. * From the net; Sean Newton is interesting York City, Notts County, Oldham Athletic, Shrewsbury Town and Scunthorpe United. He's on a 2 year contract so a substantial fee would be involved. Edited January 6, 2014 by BP1960

Something of juggernaut when on one of his runs - brushes everything aside, and one of the hardest strikers of football I've seen. Good in the air too. Would you prefer him to Mellor at left back though O4U ? Edited January 6, 2014 by BP1960

BP1960
Up front is the priority surely Agreed, but I'm sure LJ wants to bring in a left back too.
NewBlue
On Newton, he's an impressive force as an attacking fullback with virtually all facets of his forward game up to League level. Being a similar stature to Grounds would help us replace the height we lost with Lanzoni aswell. Perhaps less assured defensively as I sometimes thought he was a step behind the player he tracked. Though he'll have improved since I last saw him and Lincoln rate him very highly, I never saw him as a player to fit seemlessly into the league despite often being head and shoulders the best on the park like I have with others... Signing him would involve a fee which could put us off too. I can't see this move happening unfortunately as much as I'd like us to give him a shot. I expect LJ to take Mills on loan again and then review the left back position in the summer.
lookersstandandy
....someone told me yesterday that we were looking at Marlon King.... recently released by Sheff United.
eyres_28
Marlon King NO If this lad is a LB with attacking threat but struggles tracking a man then we have that in Mellor already IMO. Mills coming back is desirable.
Crusoe
I'd be surprised if we were looking at King... King was arrested and bailed once more in April 2013 after a car crash which left one man seriously injured, and in July of the same year, he was again arrested in connection with a hit-and-run incident which had left a second man injured. King pleaded 'not guilty' to the first incident in November of the same year and had a trial date set for March 2014.
Postman Matt
Marlon King Been to prison CHECK Journeyman CHECK No other clubs want him CHECK We are definitely in the market for him. Probably partner Ched Evans in the near distant future.

Bristolatic
Isn't there a certain amount of loanees your aloud in the match day squad? You can have as many as you want within the club, but only 5 in the matchday squad.
rudemedic
You can have as many as you want within the club, but only 5 in the matchday squad. You can however, only have 8 standard loans (4 over 23 and 4 under 23) in a season, ie the half/full season loans. So if we do loan Mills again, we could only bring in one more loanee over 23 for the rest of the season as a standard loan.

Or are there different rules when they come in from overseas?

Some of them could have been youth loanees, who you can loan up to their 21st birthday. Plus IIRC there were different rules last year for overseas loans, and this was changed in the summer, as Watford basically took the piss out of the rules. youngen
I know its probably quite petty, but why dont things like Plummer/Joyce leaving and Schmeltz being out sick/Philiskirk being injured ever get put on the official website, yet we get to hear that a 17 year old at the club has passed his driving test?I've also noticed that the website has stopped putting LJs comments in the match reports, the only way you get to hear his opinions is via Matt Chambers and Mike Keegan on twitter. Plummer and Joyce leaving I can see your point. Schmeltz being ill and Philiskirk being injured, slightly less so, as it gives the opposition a clue to who is playing and more who isn't going to be playing, especially as Schmeltz could easily have reported ill on Sunday, which didn't give the website team much time to put the information on. We only tend to hear 17 year-olds passing their driving test through the Latics driving school, which I'd imagine has an arrangement with the club. We heard about the Go-Karting the club did via Zen Office, it's the same sort of deal.
