mainstandmoaner
Ar LOUD NOISES! Burton look a decent side, had one chance after we lost the ball cheaply and finished it well. We huffed and puffed a bit, nearly equalised but for a great save from their keeper. Lost our way a bit in the second half but it certainly wasn't as bad as some want to make out. bluear
Why does Dunn have the support from most fans that Kelly never got? I fail to see what is different...
oafcforever
As others have already said Burton were a crap hoof it team who took advantage of our mistake, god knows how they were 3rd in the league??? We lost due to our manager being tactically naive really Dom up front on his own and being too scared to try to attack the opposition from the start!! Frustrated as the game was there to be won today.
Magister
The worst aspect was that you could visibly see the fans ehthusiam, hope and interest drain. Critical times for the club

Dunn isn't the messiah by any means and I'm sure we could do better, but Kelly clearly wasn't up to it, as much as I wanted him to succeed. eyres_28
First half was decent enough, some nice approach play and on another day would have scored a couple (Poleon, DP's header and Fulton). Very unlucky to be behind. Second half was powerpuff again I'm afraid. Wouldn't it be lovely if we occasionally had pot shots from the edge of the box or low and behold get to the byline for a cross. Poleon's shot that was tipped behind apart, there is just too much tippy tappy on the edge of the box. For 20 minutes when Fuller came on we tried to thread the ball through the eye of a needle time and time again. Can't believe people are saying Dom is pathetic. He isn't and has never been a lone front man. This isn't his fault and I doubt he wants to have that role, yet just like at Donny away he gets shoved up top alone and some fans choose to launch unwaranted abuse his way. He is a threat though and there CBs hated playing against him when we used him correctly and played balls down the channel. We need to play 2 up top if Poleon plays and untill Cassidy returns we don't have the personal to play 1 up front on his own. CW needs to produce a lot more if he's being given this 'free role', yet depsite his talent and super patches of play, his influence on the whole 90minutes simply isn't enough to warrant his place as the number 10 with only one ahead of him. I'd play him on the right for either Yeates or DP and tell Poleon to support the striker (Higdon or Fuller). This is the worst league for years and years and we are sat just outside the drop zone. The squad is deep enough and IMO good enough, especially with Forte and Cassidy to return but the tactics both Kelly and Dunn have been setting us up with are one dimensional and way too defensive. One up front can work with a proper number 9 and midfielders who want to gamble - this simply isn't happening. Worried. steveoafc
Poleon played best when we had higdon alongside him to share the burden, the two of them linked up well. This return to one up front at home is baffling, we don't have the personnel for it.
BP1960
I'm intrigued. What did you see today that has made you come to this conclusion? To play that negative formation at home and say its a game we need to win says it all. He's as afraid of committing men in the opposition box as much as the last few managers we've had. The formation might've worked well against Swindon and Rochdale, but it was very much an away from home formation. Surprised Dunn went with that today. bluear
Those who say Poleon is :censored: after he's been played up front on his own, again, will be the same people who said Rhys Murphy was :censored: when he was getting played on his own. These people seem surprised that they're not bagging a goal a game with James Wilson's hoofs out for a goal kick and surprised they're not winning every header against a 6'2 centre back

The formation we played today isn't a negative formation. We controlled the game today, had more shots, created decent chances and probably should have scored a couple. You can't blame the manager's tactics when players are missing chances and making mistakes.

danny513
Also, if a team is sitting behind the ball (Burton today), you need to pass sideways and backwards to create space for a forward pass. It's virtually impossible to pass forwards every time. If it was possible there would be a shot every 5 seconds
danny513
Yes you can, we lost with the usual backwards/sideways powderpuff performance. I'd say we lost because they scored and we didn't. With all our sideways and backwards passing we still created enough chances to win that game

With all our sideways and backwards passing we still created enough chances to win that game But we didn't win - as has happened on umpteen occasions playing this style, we all know if we carry on with this formation at home nothing will change, if you are happy to see tip tapping defeats its up to you, many more wont bother going.
