Records Held

Recommended Posts

I know of three records that Latics hold:

Most goals scored by a player in a single league cup tie; 6, Frankie Bunn

Longest ever stay in what is now the championship; 1974-1991

Longest ever stay in what is now league one; 1997 to date

I can't hunt down the record for the fewest goals scored in a 46 game season but as the record for the fewest scored in a 42 game season in 24 then I suspect we might be adding that one to the list soon.

Lowest for 46 game season is 40 in 53/4 (and next is 41 in 59/60)

Edit: to make it clear - those are Latics' lowest

40 by Walsall who finished bottom of Div3S. In the same season we finished bottom of Div2 scoring only 50.

41 by none other than Latics, who finished 23rd in the 4th Division, above only Hartlepool. Gateshead who finished above us were the ones not re-elected.

Actually, Workington only scored 30 as they finished bottom of Div4 in 1975/76!

I saw many of the 59/60 games, maybe looking through rose tinted glasses, but I'm sure the it wasn't as bad as this lot.

There is hope though, the following season saw a massive change in fortunes, so on that basis we may rise from the ashes again next season.

I wonder what happened to them?

Incidentally, their manager 20 years earlier was Bill Shankly. Mind you 20 years ago our manager was Joe Royle. Just shows what can happen in a couple of decades

Whilst our current form is shocking this is a quote from an Exeter city fan on another forum

Yes, that is probably the case, I own our Football Club, well me and a couple of thousand others.

I believe our manager is on a 1 year rolling contract, which we don't have the money (or will) to pay off.

He believes in patient possession football, driven by statistics, and often setting up at home to counter-attack with one up front,

and at corners bringing everyone back, which infuriates the home fans.

Our home record since being relegated back to League Two is pitiful.

2012/13 7 wins from 23

2013/14 6 wins from 23

2014/15 8 wins from 23

2015/16 6 wins from 23 - (last win on 2nd April this year)

2016/17 0 wins from 5 so far - (1 goal and no points),

You think he might have learned by now it isn't working!

cheers
