  1. Mine was 1970 too at home to Chesterfield who won the league.Think we won 1-0 with Jim Fryatt the scorer ?
  2. All our new forwards sound good with "continental" pronunciations : Bo-vay, For-tay, Po-lay-on
  3. It has to be Manure first, second and third disliked. This morning is the first time in a long time I don't mind my brother being an MK season ticket holder !
  4. Groves Stainrod Ritchie Only 3 real greats I've seen in the last 40 years
  5. Can't believe Alan Groves not on the list ! Would have also suggested Simon Stainrod except wasn't with Latics long enough to be a "legend"
  6. Definitely not a crisis. Went to watch MK Dons v Stevenage with my brother who's an MK season ticket holder and Stevenage were absolutely pathetic. A 4-1 defeat really flattered them, could have been double figures, they are a team in crisis and that's one of the relegation places sorted !
  7. Yes I do. early 80's (1981 ?), was at games at Rotherham & Wrexham, didn't Rodger score a hat-trick at Wrexham and 2 at Rotherham, or was it other way round ? Just remember it was great football at the time but typical Latics did we not fall away towards end of season for a mid table finish ?
  8. Totally agree - no one has come near Stainrod or Groves in my 40 years watching Latics
  9. Well we got the draw needed plus sending off of Col U's best player - all in all excellent result !
  10. What's the latest situation with Portsmouth's financial difficulties, is there still a danger they won't get to the end of the season ? Having now done the double we could potentially have our six points deducted when expect some of our 'relegation rivals' might benefit if they have already lost to them - should we be concerned ?
  11. True - couldn't get one from BP so got one for Main Stand from Liverpool season ticket holder
  12. Bob, I remember this incident and the match, was with you, your cousin Anthony and John B. Didn't get to the "rematch", but this is one of the few times in all the years watching Latics that we can the better of an "injustice". Remember Garth Crooks played for them but hadn't realised an ageing Howard Kendall had as well.
  13. My brother is MK Dons season ticket holder (I know sorry !, but he does live there) and he confirmed that season ticket holders are counted whether they turn up or not ie 5,500 is always the minimum
  14. Remember the game against St Mirren when he nutmegged the defender and went back to do it again. Simon Stainrod the only player who came anywhere near him in terms of crowd pleasing. How we could do with someone like either of them today
  15. If he can emulate these two who are the greatest entertainers I've seen in a Latics shirt it might also start bringing back some of the stayaway fans, or is this too much to hope ?
  16. Got to be Simon Stainrod's two goals at Blackburn, a ground we always seemed to lose at and his second goal was one of the best I've ever seen in 40 years watching Latics. Think Alan Young was also up front with him - what a partnership that could have been if they'd played more games together
  17. First home game for me this season and really enjoyed it - apart for all the moaning in the Main stand. Brill was being criticised from the first minute from "supporters" behind me, blamed him for their first goal but gave him no credit for the save which at 2-2 which won us the game. PD was right, playing against 9 men with all outfield players behind the ball makes it difficult - credit to Plymouth for a great defensive display and to Latics for keeping going, shame though on all you moaners !
  18. Why was it high, not on my reckoning. The WC qualifying group was easy, England managed to beat teams like Slovenia, Japan, Egypt and Mexico in friendlies. If they had to play Germany, Holland or Spain for example in the last year might have got a better idea on how poor we really are.
  19. And the best players in the tournament have been Mueller, Villa, Sneijder and possibly Forlan, none of whom play in our Premier league and so weren't hyped up in the same way. Coincidence or not, I don't think so. Yes the Premier league pays the biggest money and is drooled over by our media but it doesn't mean it has the best players on current form. This is the problem why expectations on England's chances always far exceed the evidence and the reality.
  20. No he was right - it was sickening. Whilst before the game I had no particular affinity for Uruguay the ITV commentary was so biased I ended turning the sound off - well done to Uruguay and gppd riddance to the Ghanians and all their historionics. If Rooney had done what Suaraz did in the same circumstances he would have be a national hero !
  21. Spot on - until the Premier League brings in restrictions on number of overseas players England will never improve. Our kids will never get the opportunity to play at the top level but other countries can - look at Uruguay for instance, in the quarter finals they've benefiited by most of the top players playing in Europe where the money is. We need to get over this obsession with the Greedy League and realise none of our players are the "world beaters" they are hyped up to be.
  22. Not at all surprised England lost - it should have been my more, we were totally outplayed. Have said for years our players have been over-hyped, there was no way they were going to win the World Cup. Good time for a reality check by the media and the idiots who believe everything they read in the "red tops" or hear on Talk Sport !!
