  1. Both nations certainly shown us how to play. Cameroon may be out but they gave it a go with 23 shots I believe - why can't we do the same ? whilst Denmark shown the team spirit England certainly lack.
  2. Yes it would show a flaw in our national character where we believe that we're better than everyone else even though all the evidence is to the contrary. We need to get a grip and realise that England aren't world beaters and if they get through what is one of the easiest of all the groups (which I believe they will), then it's going to need an awful lot of luck to even get as far as the Quarter finals
  3. Very true - anyone who thought England would stroll to the Final have been seriously deluded and believe verbatim what the press have been hyping up. I am no longer bothered about them, let's see what they can manage against a country of only 2 million people who have shown more team spirit than England ever do.
  4. Didn't Dickov also score a hat trick for City in the final match of the season against York in about 1999 that relegated them rather than us ?
  5. Gillingham and Southend have their derby tomorrow, who do we want to win ?
  6. Too right Bob - he is still probably my favourite Latics player of all time, his debut game goal still lives long in the memory, not just because who it was against and we never won at Ewood Park but the skill he had to beat the defenders and then the impossible angle he scored from.
  7. Believe there was about 4500 Latics fans today - great idea to move the game !
  8. Ridiculous decision to move it. I was hoping to get to the match thinking it was yesterday as per fixture list bringing friends and family who don't normally attend. That's 8 off the attendance that could have been expected. Leave the dates alone unless television income
  9. Simon Stainrod v Preston at home in 79 for his audacity - if only we had someone in our team like that today we'd have fans flocking back to BP / Failsworth
  10. Was excellent when I saw him play for MK Dons at Tranmere last season
  11. Not looking good folks. I'm about 3 miles from the ground, my garden is totally under water, and some main roads round here really difficult to get through. Needs to stop raining soon for any chance of the match going ahead, which doesn't seem likely at the moment. Think you should check before starting out.
  12. Yes they did, when the drains on the road next to the ground flooded. I live on Wirral where it has rained all last night and all morning - don't want to be a doom merchant but suggest all check before travelling.
  13. Has to be Stainrod for me, still remember the game against Preston and his reaction to the linesman after he scored "was that one alright then ?" - brilliant. Plus his debut at Ewood Park still the best I've seen by any Latics player over the years.
  14. Goram Halle Barrett Jobson Whittle Redfearn Milligan Sheridan Groves Stainrod Ritchie Subs : Hallworth Palmer Atkinson Young Taylor Showing my age I suppose with 70's players !
  15. Simon Stainrod away at Blackburn in 1979, scored from a seemingly impossible angle in a 2-0 win
  16. Going even further back how about Alan Young for Leicester ?
  17. One of my all time favourites too. Him and Stainrod were a great pairing but don't think they played that many games together. Remember this game at Rotherham which I think we won 2-1, didn't win away that often in the early 80's What I would give for a forward line like that today !
  18. My first game at BP stood on RRE in 1970 - against Chesterfield when they ended up being champions. Most memorable experience was last game of 1975-76 against West Brom when I ended up in the middle of 15,000 of their fans. They won 1-0 after cropping Alan Groves early on if I remember, brilliant atmosphere though and think meant w**ky Wanderers missed out on promotion
  19. Simon Stainrod is my all time favourite Latics player in the 37 years I've been watching them> How he can have been omitted from the recent "Legends of Oldham Athletic" book is beyond me - he was such a hit with the fans at the time. I still clearly remember his debut goal at Blackburn when he beat 3 or 4 players and slotted it in from what seemed an impossible angle - one of the best ever Latics goals. Pity not recorded at the time. Then of course the infamous game against Sheffield Weds when his goal sparked the riot. How we could do with someone like him now !
  20. Name : Pete Location : Wirral Length of time supporting Latics : since 1970 (first match was v Chestefield when they won the league and we also got promoted) Favourite Player : Simon Stainrod Best away match : v Man City (when Roger got his hat trick) and v Sheffield Utd (won 5-0) and was living there at the time Rivals : given where I live now has to be Tranmere
