  1. Well thats good news then because if our boys plays like they did tonight against Burton, they've got no chance of beating us. The players tonight seemed to have a motive to get to Wembley (now only 3 games away) but on Saturday they should be given a financial objective by Corney with getting us to the second round then possibly drawing a big team in the third.
  2. Just voted - Ebbsfleet currently top with 203 votes. Anything to improve BP is a step forward!
  3. It's one of those where little contact makes a big impact. The PNE player knows that he can't push him in the net so he stands so close to him that he becomes an irritant to the goalie - increasing the chance of a mistake. If anything it's unsportsmanship from their player and the ref should have gave a foul. Still... made part of one the best games in years a little more interesting.
  4. What goes on in these stewards heads? The City video is a clear example that the way football fans are 'guarded' by these yobs needs to change. We've got some of the worst in England but not the worst (Leeds probably tops the list). Why can't there be a relaxed stewarding policy like Tranmere, where for the past 10 years i've been there, they've been nothing but great considering the numbers we take there. I didn't go downstairs (There for saw the goals... ) but I can imagine what they'd be like. However, I did exactly the same at Orient - missed the goal so naturally ran up the steps with a beer to see the celebrations, Orients' stewards handled it great - no fuss just moved us back down and life carried on. Roll on Carlisle - They hire bouncers to be stewards...
  5. It's about time Latics got a proper facebook page. I've just seen Brentford's page and they use their profile picture to advertise the next home game and show special offers. We go on about advertising on bilboards around the town but this is just as good - if not better because it's free and targets the interest from people who care! Brentford have 10,000 'fans' on their page - of course not all of them are going every week but it keeps them upto date and their interest alive. The only thing that has annoyed me so far is the marketing departmentlady putting every single story from the official site onto facebook, thus clogging up the news feed. I like the idea of giving free tickets away randomly to fans, I know Salford rugby have done this previously each week and it makes the club look good. There are some on here who won't use facebook and think this wont change a thing, but if done properly it could prove effective.
  6. Fantastic win again by Latics - Orient and Walsall were poor but you can only beat whats been put in front of you. Brentford will be a harder test albeit at home but Uwe Rosler has had a solid start to the season with the Bee's. The last time we won 3 on the bounce? September 2009.
  7. Kuqi signs! Very happy with that capture Dickov http://www.oldhamathletic.co.uk/page/NewsUpdate/0,,10337~2437856,00.html
  8. I've heard we've got him as part of a deal with York City's Tony Hedges...
  9. £23 is too much for this standard of football. Officials will say about the need to bring in renvenue to hit UEFA targets but even still the working class people around here will not fork out over 20 quid to watch 3rd rate football.
  10. Bit crap that wasn't it! Great result but a bit of a reality check from Tuesday nights thriller. I thought it was a classic Taylor dive and Trotman was unlucky to get two yellows. We looked in no danger after 20 minutes into the game and the game was pretty boring to be fair. But, all in all a great week for Latics - 6 points out of 6 and something to build on. My Man of the match: Winchester.
  11. I actually thought this thread was going to be about Paul Black - who in my opinion is the weakest link in our team. Kieran Lee for me is one of our better players and although he makes mistakes, I dont think its worth pointing him out. Some argue whether he'd be better in midfield but I enjoy watching him at right back. I've only seen him against Carlisle this season and first half he was in front of where i sit and he had a fantastic half and to be honest him and Morais was a joy to watch throughout the match attacking. Maybe this is the usual case of Latics fans expecting too much too soon of our youngsters once again.
  12. Some will start next week, others will give him till Christmas, me personally I will give him 3 years to build a nice team which can challenge at the top of this league. Dickov and Taggart are managerial inexperienced and the team is full of players lacking proper match experience - it'll take time to gel. People nowadays have no patience, in football and in life. I think Dickov has had the boo boys off his back due to his great start last season and no doubt a few more defeats and they'll pop up again. I can see that his current form as a manager is poor but it should be put into perspective before jumping on his back. Lets be honest he's the best man that our current budget can afford and at least he's a sound guy who the fans can relate too.
  13. It boils down to cost - were skint so we have to go for the cheaper players - they are either young or old has beens. Whilst it is easy to write off the older generation, good headed players such as David Eyres can be found and can provide a calm head when things get tough. Late last season, it got tough and we lacked a big character to calm everybody in the dressing room down. Unfortunatly we've not been able to find such a player over summer for whatever reason but it doesn't mean that this group of lads can't gel together and thrive off the underdog situation that they find themselves in. I think we know the quality of Lee, Mvoto, Taylor, Furman and Morais so we can expect a solid season from these. The other signings also sound promising with Ciask, Diamond, Lund and Smith looking to gain something personally whilst at Latics. I think success/failure could bold down to luck this season, with injuries and suspensions it could mean us relying on our youthful inexperienced reserves to stand up and perform for the badge. One thing we can count on this season, Dickov and Taggart will make sure each player goes out onto the pitch with pride and passion - something when we was under Penney we all asked for. It will be an interesting season, great local derbies and hopefully a good cup run
