  1. I'd drink in a decent bar next to/inside the ground but I can't see one being built with the move to the new ground(?) and them knocking down the Clayton Arms. The bar at the back of the RRE is pretty crap but it's better than nothing I guess. It's just too bloody cold to be stood out there isn't it. At least the Lookers had somewhere warm to drink before and after the game. As for the daft regulations for serving beer before half time - we must be the only club who actually follows them.
  2. Only one man for me - Jim Gannon He wants to come back to the north west after unsettled times in Scotland and Peterborough. Cracking C.V at Stockport and a young manager who knows lower league football on a budget.
  3. Oldham Athletic 2-1 Southend United Eaves 3555
  4. To be honest I think Broadys doing an okay job so far. He's actually listening to what the fans want which is a nice change at Latics. An idea which is being done at Salford Reds is having fan's create a playlist for the pre/half time and the winner gets their songs played. Quite simple and pleases everyone as it's not the same stuff every week. Could easily do it on owtb with our musical knowledge
  5. Match Ratings: Flahavan - 8 - Impressive display and some vital saves. Few stray kicks stops a 9 but a solid game today. Black - 8 - Didn't seem to do much wrong although never really threatened in defence - Fantastic cross for the 1st goal though. Gregan - 8 - Another classic Gregan performance. Although was the goal his fault? I was too far away to see to say. Hazell - 7 - Did his job well, no key moments from what I remember. :censored: - 7 - Why has he not played more? Solid player with minimal mistakes even out of position. Taylor - 4 - Not effective and something is clearly wrong. Penney did well to sub him off at half time. Sub: Smalley - 8 - Great performance from Deano and a vital winner. He made us look like an attacking team again. Whitaker - 8 - Ran his socks off and his cross for the winner was a well deserved assist. Stephens - 7 - Spread the ball well and put in a few decent crosses. Colbeck - 8 - Provided width to the game although a few daft runs he proved a good addition to the team. Sub: Eaves - 6 - Did what was asked and kept it simple. Abbott - 5 - Got into spaces but looked half hearted and messed up every possible chance he had. Sub: Furman - 5 - In the 4 minutes on the field he did nothing wrong. Guy - 9 - Great calm finish and proved a handful up front. Also good to see the referee Mark Halsey back to top health. He got a cracking round of applause which he appreciated. Also a well refereed game by him, he kept the game flowing and few poor decisions.
  6. From what we've seen Guy has had a very positive effect on our performances and if it continues I can't see any reason for why we wouldn't go in to sign him. Abbott today was crap and I'm not slagging him off but with the chances he had today he should have worked their goalie a lot more than he did. It's finally good to see us having chances up front though. First half today I thought that a 0-0 draw was inevitable with few chances from both sides. I was glad to see Taylor taken off as he's been shocking this season and sometimes its like playing with 10 men. 2nd half we got it on the wings and from it created more chances. I was so happy to see Smalley bag the winner as it will boost his confidence in what has been a poor season for him.
  7. Comply or die... wait wrong prediction Latics 2-0 Bristol Rovers Guy 3678
  8. It's still going to be £20 for those who can't get the money together or can't make every game though. Also, if we get relegated (highly possible) these prices aren't attractive. Pay on the day must go down and so must season ticket prices otherwise no bugger will turn up to watch us play Stevenage! Look at the effect of increasing the prices after we got relegated from the Prem... I'm suprised we've released our prices so soon considering our precarious league position. Don't get me wrong it's not a bad price plan for it to be frozen (glass half full) but it must be looked at again if we go down (glass half empty). This deal rewards season ticket holders this season but it's not really luring the folk of Oldham back to Boundary Park is it. I've had a season ticket for 15 years till this season and I won't get rewarded due to a poor financial year for myself - tough luck maybe but I guarentee I'm not the only one with the recession. The draw to get your money back is a good idea though and probably is better than the World Cup deal although not great.
  9. My vote goes to Guy - could be a vital goal in our survival and he looked comfortable up front with Pav. The defence yesterday was let off with Gillingham being crap. Too many errors leaving the goal vunerable - especially that one where Greegs slipped to let their striker one on one and blasted it over. Overall though - Job done. 7 games to go - 7 points minimum required. Ratings: Brill - 8 - Looked solid in goal although not tested that much (Didnt even realise it was him till 2nd half!) Black - 7 - Couple of errors and stray passes but overall not bad from the youngster Gregan - 8 - Couple of errors but carrying on after two knocks shows how hard this player is - Player of the Season hands down. Hazell - 7 - Another clean sheet in defence but he's got to keep tighter on strikers. Better teams would have pounced yesterday. Lee - 8 - Very talented player which were finally getting a chance to see. One of the better players in the game. Taylor - 5 - He doesn't look fit due to possible injury (I know he's up for it as he bleeds blue for Latics) and needs a rest. Good run and cross though 1st half. Stephens - 7 - Good passing and presence in midfield but he needs more aggression and urge to push forward fi we want to stay up. Worthington - 2 - Shocking performance, only made one good tackle after his own cock up! (Sub Whitaker - 7 - Pushed the team forward and showed a bit of passion to the team) Millar - 8 - I like this player, passion and pace on the wing. Another fine performance although he needed more of the ball first half. (Sub :censored: - 6 - Little time but a comfortable sub to bring on - should start instead of Worthington against Huddersfield in my opinion) Abbott - 7 - Looked lively, could of bagged a goal if the Gills goalkeeper hadn't of got a touch from Taylors cheeky cross. (Sub Eaves - 7 - His height provides a threat up front but he also looked good in defence when Gillingham tried to get an equiliser) Guy - 8 - Cool finish and looked calm and composed up front with Pav - more of the same please on Tuesday night.
  10. United losing and Oldham winning is always a good day isnt it! The game wasn't pretty and sure Gillingham were crap, but what did we expect? I thought at half time the game was heading towards a draw. I thought Penney was wise for taking Worthington off as he showed one of the worst midfield displays i've seen in a Latics shirt. The fans and players at the end of the game sighed a massive sigh of relief as i'm sure that this game has been worrying the players as much as the fans. I don't expect us to get anything at the Gay Farm but I hope we'll give it one hell of a go. A special mention for Kirk Miller whos introduction in the team has been handled well by the young player and his passion is what we need at this stage of the season.
  11. Key games for us to watch out for tomorrow: Monday, 5 April 2010 Brentford v Exeter, 15:00 Gillingham v Southend, 15:00 Hartlepool v Brighton, 15:00 Southampton v Leyton Orient, 15:00 Swindon v Tranmere, 15:00 Yeovil v Leeds United, 12:30 (Yeovil are closest to safety but not there yet) A draw between Gillingham and Southend would be the ideal result but I think if one team had to win I'd hope it would be Southend as it wouldn't hit us as hard.
  12. Price started well but gradually got worse in my opinion. His performance on Saturday looked as if he knew he wasn't staying with us. Don't get me wrong, I'd prefer him to stay as we need options but he's not worth paying loads for if those are the complications. I just hope Nardiello and Abbott click up front in what could be one of the most important months in Latics recent history.
  13. For me bringing on Whitaker changed the game. Brill and Gregan were solid but we had nothing going forward and no quality passes at all. As soon as he came on we looked like we might get back into the game - which we did.
  14. Leeds 0-1 Oldham 16.789 Abbott Why I'm slightly confidant God only knows...
  15. I like it! Although I do think that Leeds fans are also getting ripped off by Ken Bates so it's hardly helping them either. I'm paying it just because to watch Latics at Elland Road is still quite impressive even after we've played (and beaten) them in previous seasons. I guess for that point alone Bates knows he can charge such high prices. Made me laugh how Spurs was a Cat B game whilst were Cat A... I hope we do take a few fans there on Tuesday. It's a great time to play them as their form since beating Man U has dropped to a shocking standard. I'm hoping we do the business again in Yorkshire
  16. With talks between the trust and FSA regarding introducing standing at the new stadium, the question is 'would you welcome it?'. OK, we were in the Premiership but we'll never get back there given how much money you need to get there nowadays. I think demand for standing is there and people tend to chose standing when given the option. Gone are the days of old terracing and the poor policing of games - standing is now as safe as seating and allows a much better match day experience. Manchester City will be 2 miles down the road from us and with 8 North West teams in the Premiership, we need a lure for fans to come and watch us. I'm not saying a standing area would automatically draw fan's in but it's one thing City couldn't offer the football fan. Every time we talk about getting standing people seem not to want to push the reasons why and put pressure on the FA/Football League to relax the dated law regarding standing. Even Simon Corney would welcome a standing area, it's upto us to say now that we want it. I would want to introduce 'Safe Standing' which has proved very popular in Germany and could easily work over here. Now, I dont know how much the cost would be to erect a stand of this nature but It wouldn't hurt to find out. Also with us being the first club to try this, the company who makes them could keep it cheap for us to try and get a British market. We want the new stadium to be unique and help create an atmosphere - A standing section in my opinion would get us on the right track.
  17. Oldham Athletic 1-0 Walsall Price 4,396 This is my optimistic prediction..
  18. People stand up in church to sing as it help aids your vocals and you feel more comfortable to sing when doing so. However, we've been over this a million times and it will most likely end in the answer 'no you cant stand'. But having the choice to stand would be better on everyone around the ground as you wouldn't get people standing in front of you in the seating area. Yes we were in the Premier years ago and now we can't go away from an all seater stadium..but hasn't the football fan come a long way from the early 90's - I think so. The technology is there to introduce cheap safe standing yet we are being held back by the red tape yet again.
