  1. Going into Administration would end their playoff ambitions. Good for us, but it is always sad to see a local team struggling financially.
  2. I will hold off judgement on this one until the end of the transfer window, to see what the money is used for (Hughes contract, Little Aussie, etc) I have never understood why clubs don't disclose fees, it shows a complete lack of respect for the fans. Makes you think it had to be for a reason, either it is low and Oldham don't want to show how low, or it was a lot for a player who has problems and Brighton don't want people to know how much they have risked on him. Either way, if the club is willing to pay/receive that money, they should have the balls to release the figures and allow fans to make up their own minds.
  3. .... and we already have one of those in Lewis. (Apart from when he scored a hattrick. Like buses, wait all season for 1, then 3 come along all at once)
  4. Could not agree more. I would be much more happy with other people doing the commentary. In a perfect world we would have someone to be the play by play guy, basically just describing what was happening; and one for colour, preferable an ex-player (or even selected fans). I think that would work well, and an ex-player is much less likely to jump on a single mistake from a player and crucify them for the whole match.
  5. It shows how well we are doing as a team, and how well Shez is doing, that we only have one goal-scoring striker and are still fourth! The "who would you play" question for the top teams is usually which one of your strikers do you leave out....... with us at the minute it is which one should we play with Hughes. For mine, it has to be Ormerod if he has fitness. Even if he can only last 60 mins, I still think he would be better than Craig or Lewis at the minute. If we cannot get Orms for the season, or if he doesn't impress enough to be offered it, then I would go with Lewis starting. He gives more on the pitch, and he is still young. Surely the goal-scoring will come if he plays enough. Davies knew how to do it, he is just in a big form slump. Hopefully coming on as a sub in most matches will give us that explosive pace at the end of the game, and get him back into touch. There isn't a lot else Shez and the board can do, I think they are doing Oldham proud. I cannot critisise them for any footballing decisions this year!
  6. By doing a dance he has always done, and does after 95% of his goals? Sorry I don't see it. If Lee Hughes was playing for West Brom and scored against us, would you be talking about it like this if he danced at the Chaddy? Edit: Lets be fair, a lot of people on here would be going on at Norm for not saving it and not pay any attention to Hughsey.
  7. Yep, I 100% agree and it was the point I was trying to make. I don't see any reason for Shez, AH or any Oldham fan to make an issue out of this or try and stop him celebrating a goal. On top of this, it looks like he is feeling relaxed at the club, which is important for getting the best out of the player. If things like this make him feel on edge and gives him something else to focus on besides the football, it will surely affect his performances.
  8. If the issue is that because of his past he shouldn't celebrate goals, then that is not even worth arguing. You either want him at the club or you don't. There is no middle ground of you are happy for him to help us get promoted, but he can't look happy about it because of his past. If the issue is with his celebration, regardless of his past, then show me what he did wrong. He reacted like he has always done to goals, and it is not an antagonistic dance. He wasn't making gestures to the crowd. I don't believe this thread should be dragged into a "What Lee Hughes Did" thread. He made mistakes, he served his time, he is a major part of the current Oldham Athletic team and he should have the same responsibilites and expectations of as the rest of the squad.
  9. His celebration was fine! I am shocked that some people on this board have such needless reactions against our own players! I am much more ashamed of some of our fans than I have ever been of Lee Hughes and his celebrations. I personally think it is cool to have a trademark celebration. Who ever complained at Robbie Keane doing his roll thing at the opposition fans? Come on, Lee Hughes is getting on now...... you can't expect him to run to the other end of the field to do a dance!
  10. Agreed. It is great to have healthy competition for places. Whoever gets the nod will know they have to play their socks off to keep their place.
  11. Don't get me wrong, I like Lewi........ I just question his scoring ability....... and we cannot rely on Hughsey getting ALL the goals. I think Davies is a better player, even if he is frustrating at times.
  12. It was my understanding that Davies wasn't included in the squad for showing up late to training sessions. If he is "forgiven" then I would expect him to start with Hughsey, and have Lewi on the bench. If he is still being a bad boy, or has not shown the right amount of application to warrant a place in the starting 11 or even the squad again..... then he will either be on the bench or in the stands as appropriate.
  13. That is one of the things that is frustrating about listening to the Latics World commentary. They are more one eyed than I am! It would be nice to get a balanced view of what happens before I start ranting about how the ref is crap and we never get any decisions going our way. Still, it is fantastic I get to listen to it at all. From the reactions on here, it looks like it was a penalty....... or at the very least one that you aren't surprised when it is given. On LW, they were saying terrible decision, never a penalty. I can't wait until I move back home and I can take my place in the rocky road again and make up my own mind about this sort of stuff.
  14. Yeah, I don't think the servers that premiumtv host on have a very good link to the outside world. All in all, premiumtv are a pretty amateurish company. I have had nothing but problems with them. It is all worth putting up with though to see my beloved Oldham here in Aus.
  15. He got injured in a pre-season match. I think they said he would miss the first 3 weeks of the season while he gets back to match fitness
  16. Things must be good for us Oldham fans if all we have to argue about is where the dale is located geographically. I think the real issue here is, when are the Met office ever right anyway?
  17. I try to, but like you I stuggle in Summer. 2am-4am is harsh when you have things to do the next day. I ALMOST went to bed last night when we were 3-1 down. Glad I didn't tho!
  18. I am technically closer than you, but in practice further away. I'm in Albury and I would have to travel Albury to Melbourne just to fly back to blighty. I really miss standing (edit: ooops Sitting, honestly stewards) in the Rocky Road. Come on all you boffins, it is 2008! Where are the teleportation machines like star trek???
  19. Shame, would have been good to have Mohammed Alee in the starting lineup.
  20. This is just what we need. Competition for places! It is a cliche, but to get the most out of players at this level, you gotta have competition for places. Who can you say is a 100% starter for Millwall? Gregan (captain) Allott (best player of last year) That's about it. Even Eardley isn't 100% as Lomax is impressing everyone, and when Lee is back fit............. who knows. Fantastic work from Shez and the guys at Boundary Park to recruit such strong players. Only problem is left back as we all know. We have a competition on who least wants to play there at the minute.
  21. I second that. Recently we have always started slowly. How many times have we been talking at the end of the season, "If we had won the first few games we would have been....... etc." If we can hit the ground running, we should be in for a huge season.
  22. It was on Setanta Sports in Australia if you have fox. I am sure they will repeat it, as they repeat nearly everything.
  23. Some of the Oldham fans really tickle me sometimes. How can anyone have a go at Gregan for being slow? If Gregan was fast, with his talent he would be Premier Leauge / High Championship level without question. Sure, I would love to see englands best lining up for Oldham every week, but we gotta be real people. Gregan is a marshall for the defence, and when he doesn't play, we look far more shakey at the back. Coupled with the fact that at this level, most strikers are either fast and donkeys or slower and composed finishers (with a fair few slow donkeys thrown in for good measure). Gregan is exactly what we need and we are lucky to have him (if he stays fit).
