  1. ah yes, forgot about them - I was thinking maybe Burnley. Both definitely big clubs at various points in history. Ooooh, this Dr fellow sure is a tease
  2. so.....who's up for subscribing to Latics-Red Devils -Gee Gee's TV? Me! "The particular club we're looking at the remedy for it is there," he added. "It was a huge club previously and it just needs that little bit of extra investment to take it to the next level. "By bringing in the personnel that were previously associated with the club at its heyday and bringing people in who are genuine club supporters it will excite the fans. "Once I get the football club I will definitely have my own TV channel which will cover my three sports; racing, rugby and football." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/rugby-league/22949693 The "huge club previously" just doesnt sound like us because let's face it we werent. I'm flailing around for other obvious candidates though
  3. I'm leaning towards thinking that was bluster, surely the advisors he's brought in would advise against! Although saying that he's just sacked one of them.... Perhaps the 2 point deduction the RFL just gave Salford was a shot across the bows, for breaking the salary cap it'll be a lot lot more than that. If he can just sit on his hands until 2015 I reckon he'll get his wish. Then again he could just make players wives and girlfriends the best paid cleaners in the world. I've heard tittle tattle about Warrington along those lines!
  4. although Bolton would fit the bill as a big club once I think I'm right in saying their debt is astronomical, cant see any non BWFC fan touching them with a barge pole. Although wealthy I dont think Koukash has the kind of ackers to make the likes of us into a Premier League team.Still, be nice to have some dosh - unless he renamed us to Manchester whatever in which case he can stick it up his pipe! ;-)
  5. I think he's been a breath of fresh air to RL. I've no doubt that if they get shot of the salary cap he will sign up a lot of top players for them. Football is obviously a different kettle of fish and you get a lot lot lot less bang for your buck, I'd welcome him with open arms though. A rich man who wants to splash the cash - and isnt likely to go bust anytime soon - is preferable to the death of a thousand cuts we've been experiencing for too long.
  6. why, whenever this topic comes up do so many people bang on about how they wouldnt be able to stand up and they dont like it and....hold on, why the f is this underlined? Ah, that's why. Right, as I was saying - you WILL NOT be forced to stand up, you can still sit on your little plastic piece of paradise. If other people want to risk their stupid lives watching football in a vertical position what's the problem? Eh? EH? My recent Bundesliga escapades have taught me the valuable lesson that my knees truly are f'd and I should, if possible, remain seated - that and the fact I'm an unfit fat knacker. I think it's great that those who want to stand up might be able to do so and therefore leave me in peace to sit without having to stand up, sit down, stand up, sit down, stand up. It would also finally rid of us of the problem of the scruffy young tearaway, sweary types being mixed with the opera going Daily Mail reading middle classes which so often causes upset. Let da kids have fun you old goats. Yes, some of them will carry bruises from being smashed in the face by their friends when they score a goal - the odd ankle might be broken but you could get DVT sitting in the Main Stand at Latics and memories of hurling about in the old Chaddy are some of my fondest. Ah, when I was a boy........am I rambling now? edit - and while I'm on one - Hillsborough has as much relevance to a new standing area at Latics as Bradford has to us sitting down for the past 20 years.
  7. terrible news. He was immense for us in his short stint at BP
  8. that matters not one jot. He must pay for all previous sins!
  9. the new club would be very poorly supported - and 80% of those that did would come from whichever of the three towns the new club played in - unless someone came in with oodles of money and took them up and up. That would attract new fans - like all the Wigan,Swansea,Cardiff fans who have appeared, as if by magic, in modern times. The chances of someone coming along with oodles and oodles of money are slim so probably best to discount that possibility. As for the current fans the large majority would either jack it in or support one of the inevitable 3 new clubs in the NW Counties League. I'd throw my lot in with the new non league Oldham and would have some sort of relationship with the merged club only if they played in Oldham. A good idea would be for Bury & Rochdale to sell everything they've got, merge with us and play at Boundary Park. In a few years we change the name back to Oldham Athletic. edit - I've also remembered from the first time this idea floated was that the Football League would insist on the merged club playing in the division of the lowest ranked club. Anyone fancy merging AND becoming a League 2 club?
  10. I ran on the pitch after a goal when we get promoted at Ipswich. I would like to be banned for life please. And would also like Simon Corney and Barry Bethel to be fined.
  11. the only one I can think of is the showing of the arse on the town hall steps but as I've only seen one promotion I'm not sure if that counts for any promotion or whether it was a 'if Latics ever get to Division 1, I'll show my arse on the town hall steps' kind of thing. I think it was probably the latter. As for the goat....we did have a goat mascot pre WW1. In the 1913 Semi Final against Villa those B's up at Blackburn wouldnt let him in the ground. We lost. I think I'm also right in saying there was some rowdiness amongst our travelling army and the Villa keeper got hit with a bottle - maybe we could introduce that as a tradition whenever we play them.
  12. load of rubbish. Latics dont have asian fans, Bradford City dont, Leicester dont, West Ham dont. Go to America and the likes of Detroit Tigers dont have black fans. Go to Germany and clubs like Schalke,Dortmund,Cologne dont have Turkish fans. Is it a massive worldwide racist conspiracy or just the fact that those communities in the UK and US dont have a mass sports going culture while those in Germany just dont care to follow a German team as 2 or 3 generations in they still consider themselves Turks? Those that are interested in sport would prefer to identify themselves to a club from elsewhere (such as Manchester United in England,NY Yankees in US, Galatasaray/Fenerbahce if you're a German Turk) because they dont particularly identify with their neighbours. There are certainly racist Oldham fans but I'm sure there are Asians in Oldham who like football who wouldnt countenance going watching the team of the local white effers. Cuts both ways.
  13. I'll chip in a bit for a banner if you promise to keep the Eintracht/St Pauli nonsense to an absolute minimum ;-)
  14. good luck to the fella, hope he somehow gets the club out of this hole. Bemused, as most others are, about this appointment but all people can do now is get behind him
  15. theme parkish? By jove, you need a sound thrashing old boy! Go & stand in the Nordkurve next time (And if you did well go eff yerself ;-) )
  16. everyone's mad for the German footie! Well, apart from those who arent. There is an Oldham Schalke supporters group dont you know - arent we getting promiscuous with German clubs now? Probably going to become officially affiliated later this year. The website is deep in hibernation but you never know, might wake up one day: www.schalke04.co.uk and they have a half share in the twitter phenomenon that is @Schalke_UK - 4454 followers and counting So, ladies and gentlemen - who would you rather adopt.....some dicks from frankfurt? The 'right-on' brigade in Hamburg? Or the second greatest team in the world who also happen to play in Royal Blue (ahh, yes - forgetting Latics dont play in Royal Blue anymore. Shameful)
  17. if anyone wants to back Mark Hughes at 40/1 I'm sure we can come to an arrangement on Betfair
  18. £20. F***'s chance given that most of us want to rip off his head and poop in the hole and he thinks he's God's gift and presumably above managing the like of us but seeing as he was in the directors box at the Liverpool game and I'll get a grand if it is him I thought it was worth a speculative punt!
  19. Mark Hughes currently at 50/1 with VC. Watch him come in.... (the odds that is, not the actual job)
  20. a few people have stuck a tenner on and the prices come down. I'm having a grand on it being Freddie Flintoff - you just watch he'll be 1/50 before you know it!
  21. Robbie Savage is a truly awful eejit, dont know how anyone can listen to anything he's on - immediate off button. Simon Corney is a knobhead. Paul Dickov needs to pull his finger out. The players also. Eintracht Frankfurt stink. And we beat Liverpool, tra la lala laaaaaaaaaa
  22. F Frankfurt you bunch of perverts & heathens. Nur Der S04!
