It's not that he's particularly improving, he always had the potential, what he's doing is maturing. He's cutting out basic errors, putting a bit of muscle on as he gets older, learning from his mistakes. Big future in my opinion.

That has to rank as one of the best performances I have ever seen a team, and I don't just mean us, put in. It was one way traffic for 90 mins. Stats don't lie. I saw and 82% in their third at one point, and later a 1% in our third. Yes, we lost. Yes, I'm gutted. But my god, they looked good. Kept the ball so well, stroked it around like Barca. The composure some of the lads showed when under pressure I our own box was amazing. LJ has them drilled so well. Never mind Dickovs old 'they're just not listening' crap. These guys are listening to him. Not many teams will get that much fortune. And to be fair, Prestons defence did well. Big and strong, didn't give us much space in the final quarter. Ours on the other hand, while not really looking too troubled, allowed themselves to be stretched a bit, which gave them chance to get a few shots in. I thought Prestons defence looked better as a unit when we were trying to break through. And their keeper was pretty outstanding. If not for him punching clear, palming over and catching cross we could have been in double figures. Onwards and upwards. I know it's a cliche but if we play that we'll every week we'll be promoted, never mind top half. They just couldn't live with us.

I'm going for a 2 or 3 nil win. About time we kept a clean sheet. Tonight's a good a time as any.

I honestly believe some people on here genuinley think they are some sort of oracle on all things concerning Latics and refuse to take anybody else's opinions on board. Big Dog, I think it's a good thread, and I for one agree. I think there is still a good vibe around the club. I might slightly lower my opinion by one or two percent if we let Tarky go but I think we're on the right track. All in all it's been an interesting August, and but for the two frigging bad penalty decisions on Saturday we could be joint 4th. Heres to an even more interesting September.

Ox got both hands to the ball and the attacker fell over him. If that had been a defender sliding in and kicking the ball away it would have been hailed as a brilliant last ditch challenge/tackle. How anyone can say that was a penalty is beyond me. It lost us 2 points, and being in the 4th minute of stoppage time just rubs salt in a gaping wound. Ref should be flayed in public for that, but it'll go unpunished I suspect.

I'm inclined to agree. Our own players up top, not loanees, be it two from jch rooney and mac. Give them a chance to get some understanding going and vie with each other for their places. Korey and Mellor (or Wes) in the middle. Matteo at centre half. Easy peasy, promoted by mid April!!!
