  1. I've always rated Prutton, I'd love us to bring in a player like him
  2. The budget certainly helps a team, but it's what happens on the pitch that really matters. I think in all Divisions people are sometimes guilty of judging a club on their reputation rather than how a group of 11 men will do on a Saturday afternoon. I know some might think it's having a chip on my shoulder, but I do believe at times that we're one of those clubs that has a better set-up than what people give us credit for. Assuming that we are tipped to go down next season the players/Management/Staff need to go out there each week determined to prove everybody wrong and we as fans need to beleive that they can do it.
  3. Did we play in Tangerine home shirts in 1971?
  4. 6 Compared to what we probably have as an alternative we're probably in the best position with him in charge. The aim this season was to progress on where we ended up last season and although he has done that it has probably been more gradual than expected. On the plus side, we've managed to grind out results when we've been up against it, I know people will look to the Peterborough game but that was a freak game I think Swindon at home and Shrewsbury away (League game) were the best examples of how we've progressed. That said at times we didn't build on these results and I don't believe we should have been relegation candidates by March. But he appears to have learnt from mistakes made and I think by appointing an experienced right hand man in Tommy Wright and sticking to a consistant team he's made us a better side than what we were a year ago. The test now is to see which players we can keep hold of and who we can bring in, I hope by August we have a side with a strong backbone of players contracted to the club.
  5. rumour has it Roger Palmer used to drink in a pub near me in Old Glossop back in the day
  6. It might be beyond our capabilities but if Harkins does go, maybe we should try and bring in Chuks Aneke who's recently been on loan at Crewe. His contract is up in the summer
  7. Harkins isn't our player, I'd love him to stay but I can't see it happening unfortunately. Whoever we replace him with, I hope it's someone who's our player and not a loan signing
  8. Like with a number of other players he's good to have in there but if we lost him it won't be the end of the world
  9. I see what you're saying but regardless of what our own fans think, we will still be everybodies elses favourites to go down next season. I'd rather us adopt a siege mentality than feeling sorry for ourselves
  10. I know some might think "well we don't have the budget to compete, that's reality, we have to deal with it" but we've had another season where despite looking on and ireversable decline in March, we've managed to turn around and stay up comfortably once again. But now the close season is back upon us, we will no doubt be everybodies favourites for relegation once again. Whether you think that is rightly or wrongly, one thing I do love about Latics is when we prove everybody wrong. I know most will turn a blind eye to what pundits and opposition fans will say about us, but I do believe at times it can hurt the club especially when our own fans start feeling sorry for ourselves. I get the impression in recent games that LJ has done similar to what Joe Royle did and taken comments from pundits and opposition fans etc and turned it into something positive. I just hope we take into next season the same mindset, a mindset that suggests that if nobody gives us any credit, we'll try that little bit harder until you do so. We've all got to do our bit in the stand and I think by making Boundary Park a positive place rather than a morgue where everyone is feeling sorry for themselves (which it has been in recent years). I've heard a few suggest that the Chaddy wasn't that loud yesterday but I can assure those of you at the other end of the pitch that it was bouncing in there yesterday, I just hope it's bouncing again in August.
  11. He certainly tries his best which I admire him for, but he is replaceable
  12. They'd stayed up on the last day of the season having looked dead and buried a few months ago winning 6 of their last 9. I'm sure if the roles were reversed we'd have done exactly the same thing. Lets get a bit of perspective before jumping on that high horse
  13. I think from most Latics fans I've spoken to today, most of the animosity is towards Furman rather than Dickov. Like has been said Dickov's only crime was not being good enough in the end and by the sounds of it, he's been making exactly the same mistakes at Doncaster.
  14. When they got going just before kick off, I feared it'd be one of those afternoons where we'd get completely outsung and our players would wilt. But well done today, it was a cracking effort today from the Chaddy, it's not just the main singing section that got chants going neither which was great to see. People seem to be really enjoying home matches again, long may it continue!
  15. The thing about the singing section is that a lot of our fans have just seen it as "a bunch of kids". It was encouraging to see a lot more older people in that section on Tuesday night. We can talk about incentives and organising stands etc but when it all boils down to it I'll echo what Brierly says the key to generating an atmosphere is to simply join in, I've done in the last few home games and it's been great.
  16. VB tastes nothing like the bitter you get over here
  17. Goal: Winchester vs Swindon Game: Peterborough at home Player of the season: Gary Harkins Most improved player: David Mellor Villain of the season: various referees who've cost us points Best away day: Bradford Best moment: The winner vs Peterborough Worst moment: The Crewe equaliser. That moment convinced me we were going down. Other team awards Best opposition player: Britt Assombalonga (Peterborough) Best opposition ground: The New York Stadium (Rotherham) Best non Latics player of the season: Suarez Best non Latics game watched: Liverpool 3 City 2 Best non Latics goal: Toure in the League Cup Final Manager of the season: Tony Pulis
  18. It's disappointing that we can't pull in 4,000+ for a home game anymore but I'd have said last nights attendance was about right. Very disappointed with the away following
  19. Can't fault the effort but you could clearly see that some players were knackered tonight. We knocked the ball around nicely at times but we seemed to drop deeper and deeper as the game went on. I felt Kissock and Byrom did ok myself, it wasn't going to be easy tonight. Ideally I'd like us to keep Wes and Grounds, but I feel that they are replaceable. Harkins, although not at his best tonight, I felt we lost an attacking presence when he went off. I'd replace Charlie Mac with a striker with a more physical presence, someone of the Matt Smith mould. I'd rather us play more direct if we're chasing a goal
  20. To the younger generation the cup runs last season was probably their highest point of their Latics supporting lives. It's fair to say that Baxter played a part in that
  21. You're right we can't turn money away and if we got more fans through the gates then we wouldn't have to give 45% of our ground to away fans
  22. When we give 45% of the ground away we run the risk of being outnumbered. That said I can't see it happening
  23. There was a bit of bad feeling when we played them 10 years ago. After a season which both clubs had nearly gone to the wall, their directors went over to applaud our support, only for some of our faithful to give them abuse and goad them for going down. There was probably a drunken misunderstanding but some of their fans haven't forgot about it. I think the issue the club had last season was that the pitch invasion took place during the match, if an invasion happened at the end of the match then they don't get fined (although the club never said what happened after the Crawley game with regards to that issue)
