  1. another perfect example of someone looking down their nose at us
  2. I thought it was a reference to Antonio Rattin, he got a heroic welcome after 1966
  3. Does anyone not think that in order to compete at this level it comes down to how opposition fans back their team? If sides like Chesterfield, Gillingham, Notts County, Port Vale and Swindon are selling more season tickets than us, then theoretically they should be doing better than us. Yet I bet a lot of those fans who are voting with their feet will still expect us to beat these sides next season.... it's a vicious circle.
  4. I'd like to think most away fans will plan their journey, but the local bus routes aren't connected to a national network and isn't as well publicised as the train would be. I'm sure if we did a survey we'd find that most away fans coming by public transport would choose the train or tram rather than get the bus.
  5. Watching Rotherham beat Preston in the play offs demonstrated how important it is to have wingers who could deliver a quality ball.
  6. I only know about the local bus services because I know the local area but would someone coming up from say Gillingham or Swindon know about them?
  7. Being a supporter who comes from outside of Oldham I have to say it is probably one of the worst grounds to get to by public transport. I think this will be a major factor, I notice Port Vale and Colchester (which are also a nightmare to get to by public transport) are down there too
  8. I disagree, if Hartlepool can sell 6,000 season tickets at a reduced price, Bradford can sell over 12,000, Port Vale sell around 5,000 and Barnsley sell 9,000 (after being relegated) then I beleive we can sell a lot more than 4,000 season tickets if the prices were reduced (although I bet half of them wouldn't turn up). I think our cup games in recent years shows that the potential fanbase is there, we just need something major to happen (i.e. a promotion or a takeover) in order to bring them back. I just wish we had something half way like Bradford with the Flexicard and Port Vale with the 10 game scheme. Apparantly it wouldn't work though
  9. Harkins won't charge around the pitch and chase lost balls like a number of fans favourites but he's a matchwinner, we'd have probably gone down without him. A perfect example being the Bradford game, he didn't see a great deal of the ball out on the left but he played that pass to JCH for the 2nd goal just before half time and he helped keep posession towards the end.
  10. This to me is the difference between a top half finish and yet another relegation scrap, Wes was excellent at the basics but in terms of attacking ability he was very limited hence why I believe Peterborough got rid of him in the first place. Ideally alongside Smith we need a Duxbury/McDonald type who will break up play and then go and make those late runs into the box. Granted these players come at a price, perhaps Wes was asking for the sort of money that only players with that extra bit qualiy will comand.
  11. He's 27 soon, the next contract he gets will be the biggest one of his career. Shrewsbury would have to offer a LOT of money to tempt him, I've got that nagging feeling he'll end up at Doncaster
  12. http://dontshootfromtheregary.blogspot.co.uk/2013/11/why-i-want-to-go-to-field-mill.html
  13. Rotherham have had a fair bit of funding but Orient have a similar budget to ourselves. Although it's unlikely that it'll be us next season up there next season, it's not beyond the realms of possibility
  14. I think most of us are resigned to the fact that we'll never be favourites for promotion in this League. Though I'd like to think we won't be favouites for relegation next season but that depends on who we can bring in, at this stage I can't see many (if any) non-Latics fans placing bets on us to be promoted. You never see a poor bookmaker
  15. Don't underestimate Burton as an away trip the place is pubs galore and Fleetwood would be a new ground for me so it's win-win as far as I'm concerned. My only hope is we don't get either team on a Tuesday night
  16. well I got mine on the deadline day and there was a queue, so hopefully you're right. I'm surprised we'd sold 2,896 last season, I would have thought it would have been much less. Out of interest does anyone know how many we sold in the Glory years?
  17. Does anyone know how many we have sold this close season? How many have we sold in previous close seasons? I've got one for the first time in 6 years, I'd like to think the numbers are up on previous years. I'd dearly love it if we didn't get a sub-3000 crowd at all next season
